My EcoSphere. I've had it now for about 8 years. The last shrimp, whom I'd dubbed Sheldon, died a couple of years ago, but the algae is still alive and seems to be happy.

Bryophytes were the first plants to emerge from water and begin to colonise the land 450 million years ago. They still need very wet conditions to reproduce.

Algae on Rock spotted on my nature walk.

there's currently a red tide along the coast off Pacifica and the waves *glow* in the dark like a timex watch at night!

 

i was hoping to get some more stars in the sky, but the bay area night sky is just so hopelessly light polluted (and it casted this yucky pinkish/amberish color on everything, i guess it does help with the alien world look in the picture…)

I used blades of grass in the foreground to add interest, and play on the color of the algae.

Canada geese visit this fishing platform to dine on the algae that forms in what's become a tidal zone.

This algae bloom on the river reminded me of something hobbits should be wading through!

#2939 - 2016 Day 17: Basically, if you're going to slither all over something, be careful not to leave footprints. Something has left this trail in the algae on one of our kayaks.

 

Note to self: clean kayaks and use them!!
