For fun one day I decided to take my camera to the near by pond & took a dip. It's only algae, right?

Patuxent pond full of algae and fallen logs.

Hokkaido is algae-obsessed. These algae balls grow in abundance at the bottom of a few lakes here, and the native Japanese (Ainu, like our Native Americans) worhsip them. Everywhere you go in certain parts of Hokkaido you can buy marimo in jars, marimo stuffed animals, marimo keitai jinglers, and on and on. I broke and bought a small marimo-in-a-jar (for Parrish) and a marimo wallet.
