This brown algae consists of a bunch of vines with leaves. Some leaves stick out, while the others are wrapped around each other.
The algae is approximately 50 meters long, and has a brown-yellow-greenish hue of color. It also seems to have rough and watery leaves, and the algae and it's leaves sway in response to the water.
For fun one day I decided to take my camera to the near by pond & took a dip. It's only algae, right?
I don't remember which algae this is... But I like it.... I think it is on 400Xish magnification....

Hokkaido is algae-obsessed. These algae balls grow in abundance at the bottom of a few lakes here, and the native Japanese (Ainu, like our Native Americans) worhsip them. Everywhere you go in certain parts of Hokkaido you can buy marimo in jars, marimo stuffed animals, marimo keitai jinglers, and on and on. I broke and bought a small marimo-in-a-jar (for Parrish) and a marimo wallet.
