A long, mild fall encouraged the restauranteurs of Newbury Street to leave their sidewalk tables and chairs in place as winter neared -- and arrived! Of course, they had a lot of those tall heaters going full blast. But "mild for this time of year" doesn't mean "warm enough to eat outdoors." It's December; this is New England; it's time to get a table inside.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now?

Outdoor dining table in Cavtat, Croatia

The One Tree (an unidentified apple tree in our backyard) is THE dining spot for the local parrots. This is a rainbow loriqueet. Noisy clowns generally, we love them but our neighbour is forever shoo-ing them of his fig tree.

This cheeky fellow has been caught mid-munch on the apple below. Would have got closer but Sirocco (the cat) followed me over and started bird-whispering, and the wind had picked up after the cool change, making the branches sway.
