Enjoy this last Friday of this year ;-))
Baddeck, NS Canada
This is the summer home of Alexander Graham Bell. He bought 800 acres and the land is still owned by his descendants...along with several other houses and buildings.
I took this from the Amoeba, a sailboat that carries tourists around the Baddeck, harbor area and along the shore where this home is located.

At the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. The grounds at the museum are meticulously maintained...but this isn't unusual for Nova Scotia. I still have many more flower shots...hang on...lol.

The Alexander Graham Bell statue in the front portico of the Brantford, Ontario, Bell Telephone of Canada Building. The portico and statue of Alexander Graham Bell are reminiscent of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., lending themselves to the Classical Style.
Sculptor of Bell Statute was Arthur Edward Cleeve Horne, O.C., O.Ont., R.C.A., O.S.A., S.S.C., HON. C.P.A. (1912 – July 5, 1998), a Canadian painter and sculptor. Monument to the first flight in British Commonwealth, Feb. 23 1909. The Silver Dart with Douglas McCurdy at the controls lifted off from the ice of Baddeck Bay, part of Lake Bras d'Or, becoming the first powered flight in the British Empire.
Designed and built by Alexander Graham Bell and members of the Aerial Experimental Association (A.E.A.)
Constructed out of steel tubing, wood, bamboo, friction tape, wire, rubberized fabric and doped linen; it had no brakes and was very difficult to manoeuvre.
Its name was inspired by the silver-looking rubberized fabric used to cover the aircraft.

It is the Distinguished Company at the Bijou Planks!
Today we see Alexander Graham Bell. Bell was a Scottish-born inventor, scientist, and engineer who is credited with inventing and patenting the first practical telephone. He also co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885.
Bell's father, grandfather, and brother had all been associated with work on elocution and speech and both his mother and wife were deaf, profoundly influencing Bell's life's work. His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which eventually culminated in Bell being awarded the first U.S. patent for the telephone, on March 7, 1876.
Bell considered his invention an intrusion on his real work as a scientist and refused to have a telephone in his study.
Many other inventions marked Bell's later life, including groundbreaking work in optical telecommunications, hydrofoils, and aeronautics. Although Bell was not one of the 33 founders of the National Geographic Society, he had a strong influence on the magazine while serving as the second president from January 7, 1898, until 1903.
Alexander Graham Bell, a distinguished individual!

The Bell Homestead National Historic Site, located in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, also known by the name of its principal structure, Melville House, was the first North American home of Professor Alexander Melville Bell and his family, including his last surviving son, scientist Alexander Graham Bell. The younger Bell conducted his earliest experiments in North America there, and later invented the telephone at the homestead in July 1874.

DSC08660-2: The Silver Dart at the Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. First airplane flown in the British Empire designed by Alexander Graham Bell and flown by J.A.D. McCurdy in Baddeck, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in February 1909. The Bell Museum in Baddeck is very interesting also if you're ever in Cape Breton. Not only did Bell invent the telephone, but was into aeronautical and nautical designs as well.
The past revealed on a basement property below the house where Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 ( 14 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh) - the building dates from 1790.

Ok, the title is a little ummm, corny, but that eagle sure wasn't. BTW, as one of my illustrious contacts mentioned a few pics ago, (Altamons), Baddeck looks across to the estate of Alexander Graham Bell and Nat Geo presidents and folks...a beautiful 800 acres of it....the backdrop here is a driveway on that property!
This was a good day for visiting museums and going to
a Celtic Colours concert, as this was a rainy day. The stop in the charming town of Baddeck was fascinating for us and historically important to us, because we didn't know a lot about Alexander Graham Bell's contributions, his interesting life, and his connection to Canada. We ended the day in Sydney on a perfect note by attending a performance, one of the Celtic Colours shows, tickets we were lucky enough to secure the night before - we got the last two seats! We were treated to performances by local and international artists.
