This is Alberto Portela. He was an architect I studied under for 9 months in 1984 while I worked as an intern at Fleischman-Garcia-Architects in Tampa, Florida. He was a good mentor who influenced me to go on and to get my license in architecture.

He escrito y publicado muchos libros de cuentos: varios están perdidos, y así está bien. Los que todavía pueden hallarse por ahí son Gente del mundo, El país de los hablistas, Éstos son los días, Grey, La ciudad imaginada, 83 novelas, El Viajero del Tiempo, El último explorador, Siete y Manda fuego. El tercero de esa lista obtuvo en 2002 el Premio Bellas Artes de Cuento San Luis Potosí, que se da en mi país, y han ganado algunos textos en los que no me encuentro, pero también otros que me son muy entrañables. A ellos se les va a unir por, estos días, uno más titulado El gato del Viajero del Tiempo; si el título suena juguetón y luminoso, y al lector le gusta lo oscuro y serio, me apresuro a decir que en otros de mis libros hallará historias más de su agrado. Tal vez.
También he publicado un par de novelas: Los esclavos y La torre y el jardín, que fue finalista en 2013 del Premio Rómulo Gallegos, otro de premiados diversos y muchas veces brillantes. Me interesan la imaginación que se pelea con el poder, lo que no se dice y de todas formas sacude y confronta, lo que puede entresacarse de una vida que en sí misma no es muy interesante, pero transcurre en tiempos aciagos y entre muchas personas.

İtalyan asıllı doğa bilimci, jeolog, haritacı ve şair Alberto Fortis (1741-1803) tanrıbilim (teoloji) okumuş olmakla birlikte ilgi alanı daima doğa bilimleri yönündeydi. Meslek hayatının başlarında Venedik'te gazetecilik yaparak yaşamıştı. Fortis 1765'ten 1791'e kadar İtalya ve başka Avrupa ülkelerini, özellikle Dalmaçya'yı gezer. Amacı yerbilimi arkeoloji ve antropoloji alanlarındaki bilgi dağarcığını genişletmekti. Dalmaçya hakkında olan eseri bu gezilerin ürünü olup öteki Avrupa dillerine de çevrilmişti. Dalmaçya topraklarının doğal çevresi, sanatlar, ekonomi, coğrafya, doğal tarih ve halkın örf ve adetleri hakkında birçok bilgi ve gözlem içeren eser Dalmaçya ve insanlarını, özellikle iç kesimlerde yaşayan Morlakları tüm Avrupa'ya tanıtmıştı. Kitapta konusu yer manzaraları, kıyafetler, arkeolojik kalıntılar, çeşitli buluntu ve mineraller olan birçok gravür yer almaktadır.
Fortis ayrıca yerbilimi (jeoloji) konulu incelemeler yayınlamış, haritalar çizmiş, ve 1795 yılında Londra'da Kraliyet Cemiyeti (Royal Society) üyeliğine seçilmiçti.
