Fearing’s provide fire alarm & intrusion detection systems for businesses because catastrophe can happen at any time & you need proper security systems to avoid them.
This June I was making some photos of how a smokecloak alarm system, in less than 20 seconds, turn everything in a room into a thick white blizzard. Well, not a blizzard, but you can't see your own hand in front of you. Quite effective.
I had to do the job in 3 takes. I instructed the 'bad guy' to run after some special waypoints so the photos would end up showing the correct progress. Needless to say, it was FUN! :-)

Newly inserted window in the north chapel with glass designed and painted by Tony Naylor, 2015.
St Mary's church in Lapworth is one of the most rewarding and unusual medieval parish churches in Warwickshire. The visitor generally approaches this handsome building from the north where the sturdy tower and spire stand guard like a sentinel. It is unusual in standing apart from the main building and was originally detached but is now linked by a passageway to the north aisle, making the church almost as wide as it is long. The west end too is remarkably configured with a chantry chapel or room set above an archway (allowing passage across the churchyard below).
The church we see today dates mainly from the 13th / 14th centuries, with an impressive fifteenth century clerestorey added to the nave being a prominent feature externally, but within it is possible to discern traces of the previous Norman structure embedded below in the nave arcade. There is much of interest to enjoy in this pleasant interior from quirky carvings high in the nave to the rich stained glass in the chancel and north chapel (which has benefitted immensely from a newly inserted window where the east wall had previously been blank). The most interesting memorial is the relief tablet in the north chapel by Eric Gill.
Lapworth church has consistently welcomed visitors and remains militantly open now despite being surrounded by churches largely reluctant to re-open after Covid. Happily since Tony Naylor's fine new window was installed the previous alarm system that restricted access to the eastern half of the church (which I inadvertedly set off on my first ever visit, deafening the neighbours!) has been relaxed so that visitors can now enjoy the full extent of the interior and its fittings.
Over a dozen fire departments responded to a three alarm fire at a townhouse in Crystal Lake Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:05 p.m. to the 400 block of Windham Cove Drive for a report of a structure fire.
The first fire company arrived at the scene six minutes later and found a fully involved townhome unit with two units attached to it, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Chris Kopera said.
All three townhome units had already been evacuated and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was activated to the second alarm, bringing over a dozen fire departments to assist.
The alarm was then raised to the third level for additional fire personnel because of the heat and humidity, Kopera said.
“Fire crews worked to minimize extension into the two adjoining townhome units, while extinguishing the main body of fire,” Kopera said.
The fire was deemed under control at 2:32 p.m., almost an hour and a half after the initial response. The cause of the fire is under investigation. All three townhome units were deemed uninhabitable by the Crystal Lake Building Department.
The American Red Cross is assisting three residents who do not have other housing available to them, fire officials said. Damage is estimated at $700,000.
Firefighters from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Fox River Grove, Harvard, Huntley, Lake Zurich, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda-Rural, Spring Grove, Wauconda, West Dundee, Woodstock and Wonder Lake assisted during the incident.
The McHenry County Emergency Management Agency and The Salvation Army also responded.

Crystal Lake, Illinois - 4/4/21
Firefighters quickly extinguished an apartment fire in Crystal Lake and were able to stop the blaze from spreading to adjoining apartments Sunday morning, officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 6:16 a.m. Sunday to the 700 block of St. Andrews Lane in Crystal Lake for an apartment fire.
The occupant was in the apartment when the fire started and called 911, according to Crystal Lake Fire Chief Paul DeRaedt.
The building’s fire alarm system also activated, notifying all the occupants of the fire. The building was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes and reported smoke coming from one of the apartments, DeRaedt said.
Fire crews entered the apartment and found heavy smoke conditions and a fire in the master bedroom.
The fire was declared under control at 6:46 a.m. The bedroom sustained heavy fire damage and the remainder of the apartment sustained smoke and water damage.
The fire did not spread to any adjacent apartments. The fire apartment is uninhabitable while the rest of the apartments in the building were able to remain occupied.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and a determination of how it started is not yet known.
There were no injuries to any firefighters or occupants, DeRaedt said. Damage to the apartment is estimated at $60,000.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was assisted by several area fire departments. Fire investigators from the Cary Fire Protection District are assisting Crystal Lake with the investigation.

Recently it has come to our attention that there is a misconception about our service policies and procedures. We would like to set the record straight at this time on behalf of all of our service technicians located throughout the Canadian provinces, and especially on behalf of the dedicated customer service personnel who work tirelessly at providing unmatched service for all of our valued customers.
Although Titan Alarm is based in Edmonton, Alberta, it is not just another Edmonton alarm company. Titan serves all of the Canadian provinces with the exception of Quebec. Just because the headquarters of Titan Alarm are located in Edmonton, alarm systems that are installed outside of Edmonton are still serviced by a number of regional technicians to insure prompt and effective service for all of our customers, regardless of location.
Although in some rural areas it may take a bit longer to have someone come and service your system, it is our policy to be as prompt as possible. The reason why we take such extensive measures to have regional technician teams available, even outside of Edmonton, is so that people in other cities and rural areas don’t have to settle for out-dated, ineffective equipment and service based on their geographic location.
Rumors such as this one (below) that was posted on a community Facebook page are inaccurate and discredit our dedicated staff that work around the clock to ensure that all of our customers are very well taken care of:
“…you get no support after the 2 weeks that the sales guys are in the area... they move on to another town and in fall, back to college, and the entire company doesn't do anything over winter to service clients!”
While it is true that our promotional reps work seasonally (would you want to be out knocking on doors in the dead of winter?). They make up only a small percentage of the staff that sustains the smooth operation of this company. There is no way that we would be as successful or have the high reviews that we do if we only worked in the summertime. We are constantly at work for you to make sure your family is safe and protected 24/7/365—even if you live in a very remote area.
It is not surprising to us at all that the above remarks came from an employee of a local alarm company in the area for which this Facebook page was made. Many local companies try to discredit our efforts in order to promote the view that what they offer is the only choice homeowners have when it comes to protecting their family. While we can’t speak for other Edmonton alarm companies, our policies do not include forgetting about all of our customers outside of the Edmonton area after their systems have been installed—in fact, it is quite the opposite.
We are constantly developing new and improved technology with our partners in order to offer our customers the best equipment possible to protect their homes. We are passionate about making this technology available to a wide market, as we feel that no one should have to sacrifice the safety of their family because they live in a remote location. By offering our services outside of the Edmonton area, we understand that there will need to be service and maintenance done in those areas. We would like to assure you that no matter where you are located; there is a regional technician in your area that will be available to service your alarm if needed.

Finally, I arrive home. This is a sign on our front door warning intruders that we have an alarm system and it WILL sound if they try entering our house hold. It makes me feel safe, and that's all that counts!
This stroller was sitting on a spot-lit, rotating platform, in the window of a store on State Street in Santa Barbara. I wonder if it comes with its own remote stroller alarm system and GPS navigation.

Telegraphic alarm systems fascinate me. Alarms were struck on these systems back in the days before telephones and radios, and continued to be used well after such modern technologies became routine.
I believe this device was used to automate the sending of alarms from the central office to the fire stations. Set the box number (of the street-side alarm box) with the knobs, and it would tap out that number on a circuit that would ring bells in the stations. The firefighters would then consult a card file to look up the location of the box, and see if they were pre-assigned to respond to an alarm at that location.

Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Dive Rescue Team conducting a training dive at Three Oaks Recreation Area. 5517 Northwest Hwy, Crystal Lake, IL.
Pulled from the departments website:
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department is a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) and the Lake / McHenry Counties Specialized Rescue Team (SRT) and, as such, can be requested to assist other departments with water-related incidents. To maintain these memberships, all DRT personnel must complete a minimum number of training dives each year, including open water, ice dive and annual basic skills.
HF02 is a temperature sensor than can be used for sensing heat flux or thermal radiation in an outdoor environment. It is designed in particular for flare radiation monitoring and activation of alarm systems.
As far as I know this is the old fire alarm system in the Almira Hotel and I don't believe it works. But it's a nice looking bell.
A fire at Crystal Lake Auto Body is under investigation after it caused $35,000 in damage Monday morning, fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was called at 11:23 a.m. Monday to Crystal Lake Auto Body, 7218 North Virginia Road, for a report of a structure fire.
The first fire crew arrived on scene in four minutes and reported a working fire with smoke coming from the roof, fire officials said. The occupants of the building were able to evacuate before the fire department arrived.
An offensive attack strategy was used and crews entered into the building with a hose line while another hose line was deployed to the roof to extinguish the fire. The building had working fire alarms that activated and a working sprinkler system that activated, containing the fire from spreading elsewhere in the building.
There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was utilized, bringing firefighters from Algonquin, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda Rural, West Dundee and Wonder Lake to assist.
The fire was deemed under control around 25 minutes later at 11:48 a.m. Damage was estimated at $35,000.
The owners of AAMCO Crystal Lake, which shares the building with Crystal Lake Auto Body, posted on Facebook after the fire.
“We at AAMCO & Hankook Tire were fortunate today. The tenant in the rear of our building, Crystal Lake Auto Body, had a fire in their paint booth. The Crystal Lake Fire Department was awesome. They seemed to get there right after the sprinklers went off,” the owners said.
“AAMCO had no damage in its building, and AAMCO is open for business. Thank you all who have asked,” the owners added.

Considering the size of this place, you would think they would be required to have a centralized alarm system. While parts of the system seem to have been centralized (as seen in later pics), this one clearly was not. The strange part about this was that this appeared in the main building, near the health club and pool. The sign reads, "In case of fire pull alarm then dial 911 for fire dept., local alarm only, not connected to fire dept."
