A night depository on the facade of a building in Hastings, Nebraska. In 1901, O.B. McClintock came to Minneapolis and started the American Bank Protection company, which made burglar alarm systems for banks. After his resignation in 1908, he teamed up with Freeman Loomis to form the McClintock-Loomis Clock Company. McClintock-Loomis marketed their clocks to the customers McClintock already knew well—banks. In 1917, Freeman Loomis left the McClintock-Loomis Clock Company, and it became the O.B. McClintock Company. The O.B. McClintock Company continued selling clocks under its new name until 1950, when it was acquired by Diebold.

The Sentinel Alarm System is designed to be installed in an existing floor cleanout closure plug to notify the building maintenance staff/home owner whenever there is a backup condition detected in the sewer line. The backup may occur due to a drainage system blockage, the system's inability to handle peak flow during a storm surge or backflow from the street sewer. The Sentinel Alarm System is activated by a pressure increase in the vertical portion of the sewer cleanout tee due to a backup condition.

Over a dozen fire departments responded to a three alarm fire at a townhouse in Crystal Lake Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:05 p.m. to the 400 block of Windham Cove Drive for a report of a structure fire.

The first fire company arrived at the scene six minutes later and found a fully involved townhome unit with two units attached to it, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Chris Kopera said.

All three townhome units had already been evacuated and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was activated to the second alarm, bringing over a dozen fire departments to assist.

The alarm was then raised to the third level for additional fire personnel because of the heat and humidity, Kopera said.

“Fire crews worked to minimize extension into the two adjoining townhome units, while extinguishing the main body of fire,” Kopera said.

The fire was deemed under control at 2:32 p.m., almost an hour and a half after the initial response. The cause of the fire is under investigation. All three townhome units were deemed uninhabitable by the Crystal Lake Building Department.

The American Red Cross is assisting three residents who do not have other housing available to them, fire officials said. Damage is estimated at $700,000.

Firefighters from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Fox River Grove, Harvard, Huntley, Lake Zurich, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda-Rural, Spring Grove, Wauconda, West Dundee, Woodstock and Wonder Lake assisted during the incident.

The McHenry County Emergency Management Agency and The Salvation Army also responded.

The old alarm system of the Historic

Centre, from the 19th century, can be found

in boxes of forged iron placed on the sides

of some churches of the city. On their lids

there are engravings of the number of the

stations, to which a specific area of the city

well known by the population corresponds.

The boxes, locked with a key, had in their

interior a lever tied to the bell of the tower.

Each one of these boxes was under the

responsibility of one person, and its misuse,

or lack of activation in case of an emergency,

would involve heavy fines. The bell would

toll the number of times corresponding

to the number of the station where the

emergency occurred, normally fires, which

would allow the population to answer the call

for help. The bell would only stop tolling after

the emergency had been resolved.

No injuries were reported after an extra-alarm fire ripped through a large banquet and conference center in Crystal Lake early Saturday morning, leaving it a total loss.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:24 a.m. Saturday to an activated fire alarm at D’Andrea Banquets and Conference Center, 4419 Northwest Highway.

Two minutes later, a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy reported smoke showing from the building, according to Crystal Lake Fire Chief Paul DeRaedt.

The alarm was quickly upgraded to a working structure fire, which brought additional fire crews to the scene.

The first fire unit arrived on the scene at 1:32 a.m. and attempted to make entry into the building.

Firefighters had to back out due to an impending roof collapse, DeRaedt said. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Fire crews fought the fire from the exterior of the structure.

A request for mutual aid through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was initiated to the second alarm moments later.

DeRaedt said the fire had quickly spread through multiple areas within the wood-framed building.

Several ladder trucks with hose streams were established around the perimeter of the building to control the fire.

The fire was declared under control just before 5:15 a.m.

The building was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system, DeRaedt said. There were no injuries to any firefighters.

The building is considered a total loss and the building’s owners were at the scene and working with fire investigators.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Crystal Lake Fire Rescue investigators, other area fire investigators and Crystal Lake police investigators.

“Due to the collapse of portions of the roof, it will be some time before a cause can be determined,” DeRaedt said.

Sderot lies one kilometer from the Gaza Strip and town of Beit Hanoun. Since the beginning of the Second Intifada in October 2000, the city has been under constant rocket fire from Qassam rockets launched by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Despite the imperfect aim of these homemade projectiles, they have caused deaths and injuries, as well as significant damage to homes and property, psychological distress and emigration from the city. The Israeli government has installed a "Red Color" (צבע אדום) alarm system to warn citizens of impending rocket attacks, although its effectiveness has been questioned. Citizens only have 15 seconds to reach shelter after the sounding of the alarm. Thousands of Qassam rockets have been launched since Israel's disengagement from the Gaza Strip in September 2005.

In May 2007, a significant increase in shelling from Gaza prompted the temporary evacuation of thousands of residents. By November 23, 2007, 6,311 rockets had fallen on the city. Yediot Ahronoth reported that during the summer of 2007, 3,000 of the city's 22,000 residents (consisting mostly of the city's key upper and middle class residents) left for other areas, out of Qassam rocket range. Russian billionaire Arcadi Gaydamak organized a series of relief programs for residents unable to leave. On December 12, 2007, after more than 20 rockets landed in the Sderot area in a single day, including a direct hit to one of the main avenues

What a terrific party that made a huge impact on Kids Need to Read! Here are my photos from the Phoenix Fan Fusion and Blue Ribbon Army’s “Rocket's Rad 80's Party- 2.0.” As you might recall, the original 80’s party, the proceeds of which benefited KNTR, was canceled during Phoenix Comic Fest due to the malfunctioning fire alarm system in the convention center. Well, at the Rocket's Rad 80's Party-2.0 KNTR was presented a check for $7,500 from the Arizona Lottery! That donation combined with donations online and at the party totaled over $10k for Kids Need to Read. We are so grateful for everyone who contributed: Square Egg Entertainment (Phoenix Fan Fusion), Blue Ribbon Army, Arizona Lottery, Phoenix Convention Center, The Park, Noah's Arcade, Ash10 Nicole, Heroes United AZ, and all the people who contributed online or in person and came to dance the night away!

The City of Vaughan Archives holds fire insurance plans for Maple (1936) and Woodbridge (1884 (revised 1904) and 1926). In addition to the exact layout of all structures, roads, rail lines and water courses in the villages, these plans also delineate building names and functions, building materials utilized, and the types of roofing for every structure (i.e. slate, metal, concrete, etc.). Plans also indicate the presence of fire walls, boilers, water mains, wells, fire hydrants, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and fire alarm boxes. The fire insurance plan for Maple even identifies the owners of various houses and buildings which can be very useful when determining who lived in the area in the 1930s.

3 Church Ave, Peaks Island, Maine USA • Organized religion on Peaks Island can be traced back to the first mission, established in 1802. The Methodist Episcopal Church is the Island's oldest religious structure. In 1886, the Church installed a bell in the steeple, which has become a key part of the Island's fire alarm system. The structure was remodeled in 1903 and renamed the Brackett Memorial Church, honoring patron Henry M Brackett, a descendent of colonial settler Thomas Brackett.

☞ The church now operates as the Brackett Memorial United Methodist Church.

When it opened in 1925, the Androy sported a jewelry store, barber shop (with an electric face steamer), and ballroom; its Fountain Grill included a soda fountain, coffee shop, and full dining room. The hotel’s offices and 140 guest rooms each included a telephone. For safety’s sake, the hotel had a fire alarm system (a gong on each floor) and a city fire alarm box at the clerk’s desk; the fire escape was enclosed. In 1926, as a scheme to raise money for the local VFW’s drum corps, Billie “The Human Fly” O’Brine escaped from a straight jacket while suspended upside down atop the hotel. After that he climbed the hotel’s nine stories and shinnied up its flag pole. He pulled in $203 from the crowd and took home half.

Since I’ve been seeing all your faces each year from these event, I feel like I know you even though I don’t. So next time you see me, introduce yourself and flag me down for a picture! Note, I usually don’t take pictures of folks at tables since I don’t want to intrude, but if you want a picture of yourself or your group—flag me down. I’m happy to take those shots too!
