Voetbalplaatjes van de huidige Ajax-selectie. Zo beroemd is de club dus nog wel. Maar het waren wel de goedkoopste in de vitrine.

This past week I've been supporting the Adobe (my employer) at a conference centered around a technology called "Ajax". We're here talking largely about our integration capabilities with said technology. Consisting of about 450 attendees, the conference went pretty well, though by the end of the week, booth traffic died down considerably. All for the better I suppose as I caught a cold along the way and wasn't really feeling up to answering "What is Flex?" for the 200th time.
The conference was held at the Westin St. Francis, one of my favorite hotels - though it was booked so I had to stay down the street at the Hilton. I'm working JavaOne (also in San Francisco) the following week, so Marna and Paige came in the for the weekend. Marna's been researching the trip for a while and has a good list of child-friendly activities. Last I heard, JavaOne was estimated at 14,500 attendees. I suspect that the traffic will be considerable.

Fossiliferous limestone in the Cambrian of South Australia.
Weathered rocky flats near the Ajax Mine in the South Australian Outback are composed of Cambrian-aged fossiliferous limestones. The rocks are full of archaeocyathans, formerly a mystery group of sessile, benthic, filter-feeding organisms (Phylum Archaeocyatha), but now known to be an extinct group of sponges (Phylum Porifera). Archaeocyathans are only known from Lower Cambrian rocks - the classic localities on Earth for these fossils are Siberia and Australia.
The rocks here are part of the Lower Cambrian Ajax Limestone. The archaeocyathan biota in the Ajax Limestone is quite diverse, with over two dozen species (see Taylor, 1910). Studies show that the archaeocyathan skeletons have been transported - they are not in their living positions. The fossils in the Ajax Limestone here have been silicified - the original calcareous skeletons have been replaced by quartz.

Me fui de paseo desde el centro hasta el estadio del Ajax y luego de camino al Camping en Gaasperplas. Un paseo muy muy chulo.
Nike-Ajax Missile
The Nike-Ajax was the first U.S. operational surface-to-air missile. It included a powerful solid-fuel booster and a second (sustainer) stage, which used a liquid-fuel engine. Nike missile batteries were stationed at many U.S. cities and were America’s primary defensive weapon throughout the early Cold War.
Nike-Ajax development began in 1945, and the missile became operational in 1953. Production ceased in 1958 with the transition to the newer, more powerful, all solid-fuel Nike-Hercules missile.
