In the prison cafeteria was another part of the exhibition - these are postcards, each addressed to one of the political prisoners in the LEGO hall. For the artwork, Weiwei chose the national bird of each country, then tweaked them a bit in Photoshop.

Ai Weiwei (b. 1957) - Brainless figure in stone (2020). Limestone. Shown at the temporary exhibition "Primeira Pedra 2016-2022 Experimentadesign" at Museu dos Coches, Lisbon, June 2022-January 2023.

Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist whose human rights activism has troubled the Chinese authorities, who held him in prison for three months without charges (a relatively mild punishment thanks to his international prestige) and continued to harass him after his release. He is now based in Europe, with studios in various countries including Portugal.

"Ai’s Law of the Journey, 2017, creates an imposing statement. Featuring a 60-metre-long boat crowded with hundreds of anonymous refugee figures, the work brings the monumental scale of the humanitarian crisis sharply into focus. The inflatable boat and figures are made from black rubber and fabricated in a Chinese factory that also manufactures the precarious vessels used by thousands of refugees attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea."
