After a week in Ahmedabad unable to do the work we came to do for political reasons, plans changed and we left for Mumbai.
Kankaria is the biggest lake in Ahmedabad (in earliar days it used to be known by the name "Qutub Hojj" or "Hauj-e-Kutub"). Many kings, or badshah, used to bathe in this lake. With an approximate circumference of 1.4 miles (2.3 km), it represents the regale history of Ahmedabad. Kankaria Carnival is getting organized every year 25th December to 31st December as part of the new year celebrations. Carnival is full of cultural events i.e folk dances, lesser light shows, para gliding & para jumping, fireworks etc.
Five-storey stepwell Adalaj ni Vav built in 1499 was not just a cultural and utilitarian space, but also a spiritual refuge. It is believed that villagers would come everyday in the morning to fill water, offer prayers to the deities carved into the walls and interact with each other in the cool shade of the vav.
