All the things on the power lines are kites, left over from the kite festival. Lots of kids were proudly showing off the cuts on their hands from the glass shards on the kite strings, used for kite fighting... Just one of the many "this could never happen in the US because somebody would get sued" moments I had.
A massive area in the center of town is known as the old city. It's incredibly busy by night and really fun to walk around.
The Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad was probably the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent built in this period. Designed as part of a major plan desired by the Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah. The wide open courtyard, floored with white marble, is ringed by a colonade painted with giant Arabic calligraphy, and has a tank for ritual ablutions in the center. The mosque and arcades are built of beautiful yellow sandstone and carved with the intricate detail that mosques of this period are known for
