In the biblical narrative of the Books of Samuel, David is described as a young shepherd and harpist whose heart is devoted to Yahweh, the one true God. He gains fame and becomes a hero by killing Goliath. He becomes a favorite of Saul, the first king of Israel, but is forced to go into hiding when Saul suspects David of plotting to take his throne. After Saul and his son Jonathan are killed in battle, David is anointed king by the tribe of Judah and eventually all the tribes of Israel. He conquers Jerusalem, makes it the capital of a united Israel, and brings the Ark of the Covenant to the city. He commits adultery with Bathsheba and arranges the death of her husband, Uriah the Hittite. David's son Absalom later tries to overthrow him, but David returns to Jerusalem after Absalom's death to continue his reign. David desires to build a temple to Yahweh, but is denied because of the bloodshed of his reign. He dies at age 70 and chooses Solomon, his son with Bathsheba, as his successor instead of his eldest son Adonijah. David is honored as an ideal king and the forefather of the future Hebrew Messiah in Jewish prophetic literature, and many psalms are attributed to him.

Donald Trump, like the Pied Piper of Hamelin (German: Rattenfänger von Hameln), the piper of Hamelin from a medieval German legend, leads Americans who are eager to believe in miracles into the unknown.

The Golden Age is a mythological representation of the happy and carefree state of primitive humanity. The basis of the representation was the mythological motif, according to which everything was better before than now.

The Golden Age Jewelry Factory promotes that "Golden Age" is "synonymous with flawless quality and the embodiment of the most beautiful jewelry desires", but in my opinion, the name is not flawless, because "before was better than now" :-))

A re-visit for a photo taken first seven years ago (see comment box below) - she is now over ten years old, very white-faced and shaggy, and he is sporting his 'lockdown locks', also very shaggy and showing no interest in a haircut. One (old) man and his (old) dog, aging gracefully!

This tree is located at the "Hochschachten", which is like all other "Schachten" a meadow located in the Bavarian Forest. It was used in summer similar to an "Alm" of the alps.

These forest pastures were given up in 1950s. The Schachten are witnesses of a bygone cultural era and as such are to be maintained in the future as areas without trees.

Lots of glass, narrow A-pillars, low stance, no absurdly aggressive styling. I’m not a BMW person but this design – if you can see it in the gloom – holds up.

I drove by this aging farmstead on the way home this afternoon southwest of Champaign, Illinois. Gray overcast skies made for a great opportunity to process this old barn and farmstead in black and white. Despite efforts to patch this barn up, it is continues to deteriorate.

It has been very cold lately. I took this photo when I walked along the river yesterday morning. Water was dripping from the roof of a building and formed this ice sculpture on a metal rod.

Visually reminiscent of the Age of Rail, which had a positive impact on the economy of Hillsboro, the Katy Depot stands today in close proximity to the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad lines as well as the Hill County Courthouse (National Register, 6/21/71), the focal point of the downtown commercial district. Hillsboro was established in 1853 to serve as the governmental seat and trade center for a basically agrarian county, cotton the primary crop. The completion of the MKT Railroad through Hillsboro in 1881 increased the commercial activity of the city and broadened its economic base. With locally raised funds, the citizens of Hillsboro purchased the right of way and property needed for a depot. Functional requirements dictated the size and massing of the structure which reflects architectural and decorative styles popular at the turn of the century, reminiscent of the Prairie style of architecture.

The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, commonly known as the Katy, was the first rail line to reach Hillsboro. Passenger service on the line, which connected Fort Worth and Temple, began on April 26, 1881, with four daily trains and a sleeper through to Chicago. The Katy Railroad brought a surge of economic activity to this agricultural region, becoming a major means of exporting cotton and livestock. As the economic base broadened, so did the population, which facilitated both residential and commercial expansion. Building materials were brought in by train and used to construct then contemporary structures. With the completion of the railroad several Katy buildings were constructed including: a frame station consisting of a waiting room, office, and a freight room; a cotton platform; and a section house. In 1894, Katy built division shops and a roundhouse in Hillsboro. The original station was converted to a freight house in 1902 and the present depot (seen in the photograph above) was erected on the land purchased by the city of Hillsboro. Throughout its operating years, the depot served as an integral part of the Hillsboro community. Among those visiting Hillsboro via the Katy were railroad tycoon Jay Gould, and Presidents Woodrow Wilson, William H. Taft, Calvin Coolidge, and Harry Truman. And, the depot served as the departure and arrival point for World War I and II soldiers serving their country.

On December 19, 1979, the Katy Depot (aka the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Company Railroad Depot) was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) for its architecture, history, and being the location of historic events as described above. All of the information above was found on the original documents submitted for listing consideration which can be viewed here:

For ages and ages before WVL371 was reblinded I wanted Bexleyheath (BX) to put a Volvo B9TL on the 132, a few weeks ago they listened as someone got a photo of it sitting in BX blinded for the 132. My long and awaited wish came true. Here LX60DXB, WVL371 is seen departing North Greenwich about to turn onto the busway.

In the life of flowers, perfection and symmetry are their forte, but aging gracefully shows their true character and heart. How they dance as they curl, dry, withdraw. Even quite dead and dried, they are fascinating to me. These two are still on the plant.
