Aggregate Ponds (Milepost 118 of the North Cascades Highway)
About one mile west of the Goodell Creek Campground is the entrance road to these human-made ponds. Material dredged from this area was used in the construction of SR 20. Now the ponds are excellent birding areas. Keep in mind that these ponds are owned by Seattle City Light and vehicle access is not permitted. Park at least fifty feet from the gate and continue on foot.

* Woodburn Road
Well turned out GBRf 66770 passes through the newly remodelled area at Woodburn Junction, the double-track cross-over having been removed and the Lower Don Valley Line, which takes the Stocksbridge Steel trains along to the works on the left has now had its junction moved along this way to now reside under the Woodburn Road bridge. This still enables cross-over moves to be made from the Lower Don Valley Line, to and from the Sheffield direction. The hourly East Midlands Railway E.C.S. moves, which come along here to reverse so they can change platform in Sheffield and which used to use a cross-over beyond the Woodburn Junction footbridge, also now use the cross-over from the up to the down where the GBRf 66 was seen in the last shot; the old cross-over beyond the footbridge having been removed. Its now all new and shiny and responsibility for train movements here, and elsewhere in this area, is now under control from a Workstation at the York Railway Operating Centre all this having had the result of making the place far less interesting in terms of rail-infrastructure; two other signal boxes went at the same time as this remodelling, the ones at Beighton Station Crossing and at Woodhouse Junction, both were further east along these lines. Passing now and heading straight along to Sheffield , with a few minutes pause on platform 8, is GBRf 66770 on the 6M05, Tinsley Yard(GBRf) to Coton Hill(GBRf), empty HYA Aggregate Wagons return; it came up early that morning, on time, from Bardon Hill with a full load, 2400 tonnes, on the 6E97, Bardon Hill(Gbrf) to Tinsley Yard(GBRf) working... this service has now been running since around early, 2013.
Industrial HDR image of a construction aggregate business near Boulder, Colorado.
Construction aggregate, or simply "aggregate", is a broad category of coarse particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates. Aggregates are a component of composite materials such as concrete and asphalt concrete; the aggregate serves as reinforcement to add strength to the overall composite material. (Wikipedia)
Lafarge Aggregates, Gateshead - I think anyone who has stopped for a pint in the Free Trade, or walked along the redeveloped quayside, will be aware of this blot on the landscape. And I bet the occupants of those posh new flats opposite just love their view! However, like much urban industrialisation, I think it takes on a certain charm under the right light and from a flattering angle - let me know what you think.
Lafarge was founded in 1833 in Paris and now located in 75 countries, with a workforce of 80,000 people. They are a world leader in building materials, specialising in Cement, Roofing, Aggregates & Concrete. Lafarge UK supplies essential raw materials such as concrete, asphalt, rock, sand and gravel to build houses, hospitals, schools and offices as well as our transport networks and the infrastructure of our power and water systems.

Exposed aggregate concrete has almost unlimited possibility to be used basically anywhere on a domestic home. Yard paths and porches are likely the most common outdoor applications, however the variety of appearances, colors, and textures readily available have developed the demand for garage floors, garden wall surfaces and driveways made from this impressive process. Indoors, experienced craftsmans may create stunning floorings, stairways as well as countertops and hearths from exposed aggregate concrete. Liquid Limestone is a famous structure product. It often has small fossils of marine origin, together with clays, of sedimentary origin, which give it incredible colours. This objective can be accomplished by an effective option of ceramic tiles followed by their correct upkeep. In this post you will read about exposed aggregate perth.Visit our site liquidlimestoneperth.net.au for more information.on this Exposed Aggregate

--------------
Concretions are post-depositional structures found in some sedimentary successions, particularly in shales. They vary in mineralogy, size, and shape, but often have slightly flattened spheroidal shapes. They typically form by post-depositional mineralization around some nucleus (a rock fragment or fossil fragment).

I find a lot of interest in the shapes and structures of concrete and aggregates plant. This particular example I happened upon whilst looking for brickworks remains at Chickerell near Weymouth. The brickworks had long been demolished and replaced with this works and the council refuse department garage and workshops with an enormous stockpile of wheelie bins at the back.

CEMEX Marine Aggregates has been Commended in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards. CEMEX Marine was entered in the Transport, Storage and Distribution sector and has been commended for its outstanding approach to the prevention of accidents and ill- health.
John Miller, Director Marine Aggregates "This is a fantastic achievement particularly as ships operate in very hazardous environments not just at sea but during major repairs. It therefore reflects our efforts in not only reinforcing the right behaviours with our officers and crew but also working with our major contractors and ship repair yards to achieve what everyone wants, zero injuries. In this respect it has been a tremendous effort from a team who constantly seek to look after themselves and their colleagues.
“We operate a fleet of 6 vessels on a 24/7 365 day basis that supply millions of tonnes of sand and gravel into the UK and near Continent. It is a constant challenge as we all know, excellent safety performance demands that everyone makes the right decision every time - the good thing is that our employees, contractors and ship repairers are up for the challenge.
This award is one of 12 awards gained by CEMEX UK at the RoSPA awards and included six gold awards and two Presidents Awards.
