On the return from Beighton and the promise of something interesting from Tinsley Yard as the workings to here from the quarry now appear to be from both the Coton, near Shrewsbury and from Bardon Hill, just south of Leicester; today's working, 6xxx, was back to Coton. In the event, as the pictures show, what turned up was a nice clean GBRf locomotive, class 66, 66736, named 'Wolverhampton Wonderers', which may mean something to some... fraid its lost on me! In the top picture the set has come out of Tinsley Yard 11 minutes early but ended up taking 20 minutes to get here, about 2km away! 'Wolverhampton Wonderers' is seen coming past the site of the GCs old Attercliffe railway station, not far from the Midland's Attercliffe Road railway station, just over a kilometre away to the west and both within a kilometre of their respective main line stations, Midland at Pond Street and the GCs Victoria. On the left in the top picture, still sporting an original Sheffield tram livery and not seen round these parts since around 1960, is one of the Supertram sets in blue and cream, on the way to its terminus at Meadowhall. The site of Sheffield Stadium, off to the left above the tram is still a derelict pile of rubble, nothing having been done with the site since the whole thing was demolished last year. I may be wrong but with the current state of local council's finances, I can't see anything happening to this site, funded by the council, in the near future? With gradient filtering to lift the shadows once more running to 3 instances in the cutting, bright, yellow fronted 66736 comes noisily under the bridge and prepares to pass Attercliffe Junction which allowed north to east movements onto the Lincoln line, now long gone, though the cutting is still there, much of it has been used for 'fly tipping'; disgraceful mess it is too. The other end of the cutting was at Darnall Junction where the large area of land was occupied by both the Darnall Engine shed on the south side and the Cravens works on the north side. The 66 is putting on power to pass along the curve to Woodburn Junction and the working will be back tomorrow morning at around 7am with another 1800 tonne load of aggregates for the Amey stone processing plant at the north west end of Tinsley Yard; its neighbour now being Marks and Spencer of course, occupying the 2 large aircraft-hanger like buildings on the site and having no connection to the railway system at the Yard...
