RD22215. Over the weekend 25th / 26th September, 2021, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway held a 1960s event.

The time frame was 1967 and they supposed that the Isle of Wight railways weren’t closed or electrified; instead, steam haulage continued and British Railways shipped some Ivatt class 2MT 2-6-2Ts over to the Island to replace the ageing O2 Class 0-4-4Ts. As was customary on the Isle of Wight railways, the Ivatt tanks were given names of towns on the Island with one being called COWES and another RYDE.

Although the Adams O2 tanks were withdrawn, one, W24 CALBOURNE, was purchased for preservation and this was displayed at Haven Street restored to the Southern Railway Malachite Green livery. To compliment the trains, there were also a few 1960s manufactured cars plus live groups playing music from that era.

This photo is of Ivatt LMS Class 2MT 2-6-2T 41298 arriving at Haven Street with a train from Smallbrook Junction; some video footage taken over the weekend can be seen here:

Ageing Merseyrail unit 507020 slows for its stop at Brunswick., 17th June 2022. The 15 minute service from Southport to Hunts Cross has been reduced to a half hourly service, with every other service terminating at Liverpool Central instead. All other Merseyrail routes have also seen services reduced due to a shortage of available units.

Time goes by I hope my spine doesn't bend like this as I get older!

At last managed to get a shot of the old pier now they have got the diving pontoon out of the way.

There was a photographer their when I arrived we got chatting he had flown over from Italy to get this shot and others on the coast.!!

We threw pebbles at the seagulls and they flew off for 20 mins. Saves messing in photoshop.

A long Italian name which I have forgotten but your initials were C.F. If you see this shot I hope you are pleased with the photo's you took in the UK.

The times that we live in seem very much geared towards the young, and that, in an ageing population.

I was on a photo assignment for Age Concern, for a book, when I spotted this lady resting patiently at the counter of a store in a shopping mall.

Now normally ladies go there for advice or a ‘make-over’, not this one, she was just a bit tired and saw the inviting chair…

Have a relaxed day and thank you as always for your comments, Magda, (*_*)

Wild flowers taken in the same fading light as the previous one. The light keeps the image soft but I like the effect.

I bought some tulips from the supermarket a couple of weeks ago. This is the third image I got from them but the first I've got around to posting.

Sorry for my absence, a combination of lack of time, inspiration and motivation...it's certainly not a lack of props ;)

This rich and dense smattering of stars is a massive globular cluster, a gravitationally-bound collection of stars that orbits the Milky Way. Globular clusters are denser and more spherical than open star clusters like the famous Pleiades. They typically contain hundreds of thousands of stars that are thought to have formed at roughly the same time.

Studies have shown that this globular cluster, named NGC 6139, is home to an aging population of stars. Most globular clusters orbiting the Milky Way are estimated to be over 10 billion years old; as a result they contain some of the oldest stars in our galaxy, formed very early in the galaxy’s history. However, their role in galactic evolution is still a matter of study.

This cluster is seen roughly in the direction of the centre of the Milky Way, in the constellation of Scorpius (The Scorpion). This constellation is a goldmine of fascinating astronomical objects. Hubble has set its sights on Scorpius many times to observe objects such as the butterfly-like Bug Nebula, surprising binary star systems, and other dazzling globular clusters.

Built in 1967, BLS Re 4/4 No.164 'Lengnau' is pictured slowing for Kandersteg, the destination of the Goppenstein - Kandersteg 'Autoverlad' (car transfer) which operates through the 9 mile long Lötschberg tunnel.

This service is operated solely by these ageing brown locomotives which transports vehicles from the Bernese Oberland to the Canton of Valais and vice versa every 15-30 minutes.

Gentleman Jack undergoes the same Lincoln County Process (charcoal mellowing) as standard Jack Daniel’s after distillation and before barrelling, at which point there is still no distinction between the two whiskeys. The second charcoal mellowing, which takes place after aging but before bottling, is what makes Gentleman Jack different from standard Jack Daniel’s.

The process is considered a subtractive process, removing harsh impurities with the intent of making the whiskey “smooth.” Along with the impurities, the process also removes color and flavor. While many whiskeys are filtered through charcoal after ageing in barrels, the extent to which Gentleman Jack is charcoal mellowed a second time after ageing isn’t a common practice.

The resulting whiskey is very smooth, as the bottle suggests with the phrase “Ultimate Smoothness” written in gold on the top of its black cap. At 80 proof it’s more full-flavored than I expected compared to most 80-proof whiskeys, however, it is still very light. A nice balance of caramel, vanilla, and oak, it will have a wide appeal to those who want to sip whiskey but want to keep it light. Unfortunately, it is less characteristically “Jack” than its standard Old No. 7 counterpart, which makes it less interesting for someone who wants to explore a bit further and contemplate what they’re drinking.
