Many "agate house" structures throughout the park date to the same time period (Pueblo II-Pueblo III, 1050 and 1300 AD). Though built using original materials, the 1930s reconstruction is not a completely accurate replication of the original structure.

I found many pieces of petrified in the Bisti de Na Zin Geological Wilderness, but this one was agatized. The lower right portion of the log is still covered with bark.
The next post shows a closeup of the log.
Agate Creek pair cut from a large agate found in the creek gravels - interesting exterior but showy centre with prominent banding. Halves approx 2.5" across.
Two Harbors - Lake Superior
One of my first stops while visiting the North Shore is this harbor area. As you can see, it was a busy afternoon on the breaker with folks walking out to the lighthouse. Once in a while you might even see a ship coming in to load at the ore docks to the right!
It's about a 1/3 of a mile hike out to the end, while someone's Grandma sits on the bench waiting for her family to return!

Nodule of agate found on a Cody 59ers Rock club field trip on private land in Montana. Thanks to the ranchers for giving us permission.
Cet œuf en Agate semble surgir d'une galaxie lointaine pour essayer en vain de voler la vedette au dernier éclipse en date du 08-04-24.
The gravel bars on the Fraser River are strewn with agates, and people hunt them during winter. But they are not really the subject of the image. The subject is the the magnificent grove of black cottonwoods that looms over the scene. I have shot that grove many times from a different angle, and not noticed the incredible structure in the branches and stems. I will return on another evening soon, with a longer lens to capture the grove in particular from the same position.
Brasilian polished agate plates captured in transmitted light, with a macro lens and extension tubes (magnification 2-3X).

Well this was taken in a darkened room with a light box for craftwork as the only light source . Placed on the lit surface are a selection of agate slices .
Agate is a variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. Translucency, patterns of color, or moss-like inclusions may distinguish this stone from other forms of chalcedony. Agates can show a wide variety of vivid, multiple colors. These are principally the result of traces of oxides of iron, manganese, titanium, chromium, nickel, and other elements. All agates take a wonderful polish and are tough enough for most jewelry uses. Designers often take advantage of the intriguing patterns these stones have to offer to create unique and fascinating pieces.
And now to hear the " Light Flux " ------------
I was told this was agate from Mexico, but I'm not certain. If you know what kind it is, please let me know.
Thank you all so very much for your visits, comments, and faves. I appreciate each and every one of you! Gracias. Merci. Danke. Obrigado. Grazie. Go raibh maith agat. Tapadh leat. Gratias tibi.

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, definitely worth a visit even though it's well out of the way for most travelers.
All agates are unique and do not repeat. We can observe many eyes on the mother body of agate - these are new nuggets (in geology this is called spherulites*) Silicone form of life.
In scientific geological circles, there are still disputes about the life of Agate. However, agate has been proven to be a form of life.
Agates - live, eat and breed. They have a male body (layer) and a female body (geode). Spherulite agate contains both forms. As a rule, the layer is the outer shell and skin, the geode is inside. But gobi agates do not lend themselves to scientific classification at all and show individuality, as if each specimen is a separate species, that is, they build their bodies the way they want and reproduce in different ways. Agate can slowly rearrange molecular bonds, turning the layer into a geode, without increasing in size. In general, the size for the development of Agatha is not the main thing. There are varieties of Agate that grow no more than a couple of millimeters. In geology there is no definition for these minerals, I called them "millimetres".
This form of life exists in another corridor of time. Human life is too short to observe agates in nature, it seems to us absolutely static. But in the DZI agate beads - a miracle! We can observe changes after they are created. It is safe to say that the bead is not millions of years old, perhaps hundreds or extremely rarely thousands of years old, however, the growth of the skin on the bead is obvious, as well as the formation of Dragon Blood, the overgrowth of cracks, the appearance of new layers ... This significantly narrows the time corridor for mineralogy.
"Carbon chauvinism"
This term is a consequence of the assumption that everything that can be called living must be built primarily from carbon. It is clear that this form of life is closest to us, so it is extremely difficult for us to imagine a different biochemistry.
The author of the term, astrophysicist Carl Sagan, criticizing this point of view, suggested that the basis for its nomination is only the fact that its adherents themselves consist of carbon and water and absorb oxygen in the process of metabolism.
