New Low Pay Commission to advise on minimum wage
A new Low Pay Commission is to examine the rate of the national minimum wage.
The commission met for the first time today, and will report back to the Government by mid-July, with annual reports from then on.
The commission is made up of chairperson Dr Donal de Buitléir and eight commissioners, who were appointed by Business & Employment Minister Ged Nash.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Joan Burton and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton were also present this morning to officially launch the commission at St Andrew's Resource Centre in Dublin. The commission's first meeting was held at the centre following the launch.
The commissioners are expected to look at existing data as well as commissioning new research where necessary in examining the minimum wage as well as other issues relating to low pay. Consulting with workers and employers will also be part of the process.
Minister Nash urged the commissioners to leave their allegiances behind and "don the jersey of the public interest" in their work.
The membership of the commission is as follows:
Dr Donal de Buitléir Chairperson Director of PublicPolicy.ie
Vincent Jennings Chief Executive Officer, Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association
Patricia King Vice President, SIPTU, incoming General Secretary of ICTU

Not the most fantastic wedding photograph of all time for sure, but I went with creative, cute, funny, and descriptive instead of cliché for today. More classic wedding portraits to come as time rolls on, promise :D
This title and picture pretty much described my day today. It was VERY AWESOME. also tiring. And silly and entertaining too. So the picture is perfect. It just describes every aspect of the day. For the record, I don't advise getting 5-7 hours of sleep over the course of the 3 days before a wedding and then shooting that entire wedding for 9 hours straight. I was moderately tired to say the least.
Did I let that stop me from having a blast? Goodness no. I worked hard, did what I'm confident was my very very best, and didn't stop except for a few bites at Paula Deen's restaurant during the reception.
The grand total for today is 2,553 pictures. That ads up to around 44.4 Gb of pure 1s and 0s all to describe a wedding day. Hey. Let's do some random calculating since it's 3 AM and I have the internet and a computer handy.
(unnecessary nerdiness commences here and ends two paragraphs down)
The pictures I shot today were RAW files (for editing flexibility), 10MP a piece, which come out to around 15 megabytes per image file. If a standard stereotypical picture is worth a thousand words, what were today's worth? Well, if we break that down to bytes (which I will equate with letters, think ASCII right?) that's 15,728,640 letters. I googled a lot just now and came up with 5.1 as the average word length in english, so that means that a RAW image file, or each photograph I made today was worth roughly 3,145,728 words. Good to know.
But wait. I took a total of 44,399,168,365 bytes (That's the exact count from my mac) worth of pictures today. That's on average 8,879,833,673 words. For comparison, the entire works of shakespeare are around 928,913 words. So I wrote like 9559.4 times more than the written works of shakespeare.
Now, I can't say that today's volume of written works was as well composed and constructed as shakespeare's, but with that much content, some of it's got to be really really good right? :D
All silliness aside, I hear that's a lot of pictures for a wedding, and I know Meghan, my tagalong/extra photographer/moral support/friend/helper today, got a couple hundred as well, so this couple should come away with plenty of gorgeous wedding pictures. I've looked through a few (enough to find this perfectly fitting one taken after the wedding just as the sun went down) and from the looks of it I'm very happy with how the entire day's photographs turned out. It was a lighting nightmare, as I hear most weddings are, but when it came down to it somehow everything worked out. I went into this more nervous than I care to admit, and coming out I'm extremely happy with everything. I suppose that's a good sign.
Up next: School project for photography assignment due monday, so another couple hundred pictures tomorrow (not shot in RAW. I'll try to keep it under 500Mb tomorrow. haha!) and then editing for these 2k pictures over the next week or two. Gotta keep the post-pro going as fast as possible because Chris (groom) ships out to afghanistan next week!
For now, sleep time. It was an awesome day. I love getting time to know the Coray family better. I already felt like part of their family, and It was awesome being treated as such this weekend. They're all so great. The Cole family is great as well. No lack of good conversations and meeting exciting new people this weekend. Much thanks to all of them.

Teotihuacan is one of the most famous and important sites of ancient Mexico, best known for it's enormous Avenue of the Dead and the great pyramids of the Sun and Moon.
Although the site was known in Aztec times as the 'Birthplace of the Gods' it is actually significantly older, with most of the major structures built between 100-250AD and the city, one of the largest ever ancient settlements in the Americas, was believed to have been still inhabited up to the 8th century.
Today the vast scale of the complex, particularly the so called Avenue of the Dead, nearly 3km long and flanked by ancient ruins and terraces, continues to awe visitors. At the north end of the Avenue sits the Pyramid of the Moon, whilst it's much larger counterpart, the Pyramid of the Sun, sits halfway up it's eastern side. At the southern end sits the Ciudadela complex which centres on the smaller pyramid of Quetzelcoatl, earlier and more ruined than the larger pyramids but retaining it's stunning original sculptural decoration on part of it's western face, featuring the iconic feathered serpent heads.
Aside from the great ceremonial structures there are also residential buildings, particularly the palatial complex at the north west corner that retains some vivid fragments of it's original mural decoration.
Note to Self: Insistiing on "Congratulations" instead of "Congrats" when the party starts in less than an hour may be ill-advised.
The story behind the 2nd cake:
I called Albertsons earlier in the week to order a cake for the party. On the day of the event, I left work to pick up the cake and get to the hotel. I had about an hour to get everything set up, and there were no extra minutes to spare.
The girl at the bakery counter looked for my cake for 10 agonizing minutes before apologizing, saying she had no record of the cake order and didn't see it in the store anywhere.
Sick as a dog, desperate, and more than a little pissy, I asked if she had any cakes that I could buy that would work as an alternative. She found the one above, which at the time was blank. I told her that if she could put "Congratulations Jean!" on it, I'd be happy and on my way.
She takes the cake in the back, and after a minute comes back and asks me if it's ok to put "Congrats" instead of the whole word. I insisted that the whole word be on there, thinking that if I didn't get my special ordered cake, I damned well was going to get the words I wanted.
Another several agonizing minutes later, the girl returns looking sheepish, with the cake and her manager. I look at the cake, see the words, shake my head and say, "You've got to be kidding."
The manager apologizes for the entire mixup and offers the cake for free.
The thing was, my reaction to the cake had nothing to do with the messed up word. I saw the label on the box and realized I WAS NOT AT ALBERTSONS. In my fever-addled sudafed haze, I had gone to the wrong market, just across the street.
I thanked both the manager and the girl for trying so hard to help me out. While the cake writing wasn't my fault, the rest of it certainly was, and I didn't want them to take the brunt of it. They insisted I take the cake, and from there I headed to Albertsons where the correct cake was boxed and waiting.
The party was a hit, the Albertson's cake was amazing, and the "special" cake currently sits untouched on my sink.
I have since sent an e-mail to the store's corporate office to let them know how much I appreciated their staff's willingness to right the situation. :)
I was advised to keep the sunset photos simple after trying to get the perfect mix of foreground and sunset
Im thinking I just need to delay the timing o the photo until the colours arent quite as extreme.
This shot is almost SOOC-a crop and small straighten plus bit of fill into the foreground for the sea
Was a spectacular sunset but not sure it works being so empy-I like things busier!!

The event, which featured a host of big names from the industry speaking and advising start ups as well as other businesses, is now in its third year.
Today’s schedule included round table discussions on big issues such as the state of the start up environment in Europe today as well as chats on mobile payments and the relationships between media and the tech world.
Pinterest was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp 9of course you all knew that) and today at the Web Summit in Dublin I had the opportunity to photograph Paul Scirra together on stage with Michael Birch (the founder of Bebo)
Dudiptsar lake or Dudipat Lake is a beautiful lake encircled by snow clad peaks. The lake lies in the extreme north of Kaghan Valley at N35.0185 E74.0895 and is about a four hours drive from the chief town Naran. The road is not entirely accessible for cars, even Jeeps. From Besal onwards the visitors have to trek about 6-8 hours in vast alpine meadows to reach the lake.First four hour trek is really hard. And best season for visit is after 25th july till end of september.
Trek consists of at sometimes steep climb while at other places walk through huge flat valleys, but at all the time filled with amazing sights.
Its water is a beautiful greenish blue and very cold too. Dudipatsar is also close to another major Lake Lulusar which is the main contributory to the Kunhar river that runs through Kaghan valley. At a distance from the lake lies the Babusar Top or the Babusar Pass which is the end of 150 km long Kaghan valley.
The whole area is accessible for four months every year from June-September after which it is closed to snow.
It is highly not advised to track it in snow, as there is a high probability of avalanches in the area. The lake used to have abundance of trout, but illegal fishing using dynamite and nets has resulted in a sharp decline.
The word "dudi" means white and "sar" means lake. This name has been given to the lake because of the white color of snow at surrounding peaks. In summer the water of the lake reflects like a mirror. Getting to the lake takes four to six hours of tough hiking.
The word "sar" is used with the name of each lake in the area meaning lake. In the summer when the water of the lake reflects like a mirror a large number of visitors from different areas of the country come to watch the enchanting views of these lake.
The whole area is private property but declared national park by Government of Pakistan.
The deep blue Dudipat Sar, at 3,800 meters, is surrounded by green hills at about 4,800 meters, with snow patches in the shady hollows. This lake is very little visited by people and its natural beauty is still very much protected. October 8, 2005's earthquake in North Pakistan has made it more difficult to be accessed. However the government of Pakistan decided on March 14, 2006 to take all steps to restore tourism of the Kaghan valley which includes building new tourism spots and rebuilding previously destroyed ones.
