Yum!!! A little sand never hurt anyone and even a baby Black Skimmer Chick!! Black Skimmers are such good parents, they watch the babies to make sure they can swallow the fish ok! They will sometimes take the fish away from the baby and chew on it to soften it up some to make sure everything is just right for junior!! This Needlefish is just about gone and it makes a great pacifier also!! The baby is close to the parent for shade and to prevent Gulls and other Critters from trying to steal the hard earned meal!! Hope you like the image and we will see everyone tomorrow!!

Please note!!! I shoot with a huge lens well away from boundaries and off the beach for hours at a time!! It is very important not to bother these birds!! If you are scaring the parents or the babies it is wrong and not worth it!!

I was advised quickly by some loyal contacts that there was some kind of marks on my upload yesterday. I never did see what you did and have no idea what caused whatever it was. Thus, I deleted it. But I thank you all for pointing it out. As you know, I am anything but a photographer and certainly not a technocrat on any level. I've never even had a cell phone. So the chances of me discovering what may have caused the problem are nil. Too bad, because I liked the photo and apologize for the deletion to those of you who commented and faved. However, it was obviously not what I thought it was.

To test as to whether this is a permanent flaw in some part of my process, I've uploaded a SOOC photo of Star and myself approaching the shore in a rowboat on the lake in the rain. Please let me know if you see anything which would lead you to believe the contrary. Remember this is absolutely SOOC. I appreciate your continued observations.

Hemicordulia tau

I am advised that this is the Tau Emerald Dragonfly.

Location is south coast New South Wales, Australia at Batemans Bay.

I had at first thought this was the Australian Emerald Dragonfly. However Harvey P advised me of the following: “The key (easiest) things to look for are (1) the degree of dorsal extension of the forward part of the yellow marks on the last two abdominal segments - in Australian Emerald they extend up in a point almost to the dorsal mid-line; and (2) the detail of the face pattern. It's not clearly visible in this profile shot, but you can see that the top of the frons (the top bit of the face just in front of and between the eyes) is yellow, not a metallic blackish blue that it would be in an Australian Emerald. As a generality, Australian's also tend to be greener and 'shinier', but it's not infallible.”

Another identifier is the leading edge of the wing is yellow whereas the Australian Emerald, H. australiae is black.

The White Wave, southern Utah. When I travel, I like going off the beaten path. I abhor crowds so I look for alternative interesting places to go. When we travelled to Utah, a colleague and avid hiker of my husband advised us not to go into any of the slot canyons without a guide because of the risk of flash floods. I began searching for a guide and found this great outfit in Kanab tht fit our needs perfectly. They offered small group tours (as in 8 ppl or less). The best tour we've ever been on. The guides were are locals who had skills and knowledge, exactly what we were looking for. They talked biology, botany and geology combined with excellent driving skills and great conversation. This place was spectacular with rock formations, views and petroglyphs and artifacts. An easy hike for experienced hikers. And photo opps a plenty. I will go back someday. I want to live there.

Well I have been to this spot a bunch of times now but not after a big rain. I had heard that it changes colour drastically after a storm so we went to see. Well yes in fact it does change from a brilliant blue to a pea green. If you plan to visit this falls I would advise to go when there hasn't been any rain for a few days. Kris..

This male Summer Tanager had just come in off the Gulf of Mexico after an amazing journey from South America! A quick stop to refuel and off to breed somewhere in North America!! The day I took this image we watched wave after wave of Orioles and Tanagers fly in to the Bottle Brush Trees, knowing this was the first place they had landed after crossing the Gulf! What a sight to see as these birds flew in!! This one is at just about full color and almost glowed!! Thanks for looking and as always all of the comments and favorites!

Our guide advised us not to go behind the falls; "It's very slippery, the ground is rough and uneven, and you'll get very wet." Plenty of people seemed to be going behind, so I thought I would try too. He was right on all counts, but I did get this picture and very wet also, but I am pleased I made the effort.

Three images of a concerned parent advising us to move on

The best advise I can give after a hurricane is look at the big picture first then focus on one project at a time. We are safe our home and property are not destroyed. One of my first garden tasks was to find plants that provide nectar/food for wildlife. Sadly most of the zinnia were stripped or battered beyond usefulness. Some pre planning and protection of plants was a good idea and by sundown on Friday a long-tailed skipper came around. On Saturday there were more skippers, butterflies and birds and I grabbed this shot of the skipper because it was my little ray of sunshine. Disasters and bad things happen and when it’s finished we begin to pick up the pieces and life goes on. Hoping the best for Floridians as we recover and rebuild.

Happy Monday on Sunday

For the All Saints' weekend in 2024, locomotive-hauled push-pull trains returned to the KBS 945 at short notice in order to cope with the increased passenger volume due to the line closure between Freilassing and Rosenheim. Travellers to Munich were advised to take the route via Mühldorf. There are not too many suitable photo spots on this route. To add some variation, the view from above was chosen. Here you can see 218 498 pushing RB 27978 towards Mühldorf near Salling on 01 November 2024. In the background you can recognise the church tower of Kay, the area behind it already belongs to Austria.

I am unable to remember what this attractive building of Salamanca is! I am now advised it is REAL COLEGIO DE LOS JESUITAS O LA CLERECIA DE SALAMANCA

Gary and his wife own and operate a farm in southern Saskatchewan. I met him while I was exploring the inside of what I thought was an abandoned old school. I heard trucks surround the school, got nervous and stepped outside. Gary greeted me and said: "We're putting a new roof on this school today. This was my school - I attended as a kid."

I explained myself and immediately got invited to tour his farm. Then I was invited inside for lunch! Such kindness! Later I rode in that combine while we harvested yellow peas. Gary spends a lot of his time in a tractor. That combine has GPS that helps it steer, that way Gary can focus on making sure the cutter isn't riding too high or too low. Too high and you miss the crop, too low and you start harvesting the soil.

Gary's not getting rich doing this, and his kids have been advised to choose an easier, more profitable path. But for now he's helping put food on your table.

(photo and story are from 14 years ago, so maybe Gary's retired now... who knows)

Parliament gained a permanent home after Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital in 1857. The Library building, designed in the High Victorian Gothic Revival style by Thomas Fuller and Chilion Jones, opened in 1876. Its circular shape and the use of galleries and alcoves were the inspiration of the first Parliamentary Librarian, Alpheus Todd. He recommended that the building be “spacious and lofty” and wisely advised that it be separated from the Centre Block by a corridor to protect it from fire 113

There's a fun quote I found that I'd like to share with you.

"Stand your ground

Have a tough hide

Keep moving on

Cherish wide open spaces

Have a strong spirit

Roam wild and free

Let the chips fall where they may!"

Has anyone on here had their work printed very very large?

Someone wants to buy one of my prints (not this one) which is always flattering but the size she wants is 2metres. I think she has a rather large house. The biggest I've ever done is A1.

DS Colour Labs have advised in theory they can produce a print ratio 2metres x 44 inches but have (unsurprisingly) warned me that the quality could look quite grainy and wont be pin-sharp.

I personally think that its a bit big for an internal print, would be grateful for anyones thoughts.

the reason advise is free is that most of it is rubbish.

Towards the end of my day at Red Rock the setting sun was starting to cast a nice golden glow upon the area. Tired from one moderate hike and several bush whackings in hot desert heat off the side of the road I spied some individuals with tripods on top of some rocks, pulled over and scrambled up to them to see this nice set of small hills. We exchanged pleasantries, talked gear and they were all foreign travelers. A Frenchman, a Chinese fellow and a Turkish college student. They were all first time travelers to the area and they enjoyed when I offered them advise about places in Nevada Utah, Arizona and California and then we got into a long deeper discussion about to them the inexplicable at least to them results of the last US election.

I highly advise that you visit "Astral Technologies" at the SL 20th Birthday Shop & Hop! I believe that A-T is a collection of designers, but the avatar selling is named Warship Waifu.

Astral Technologies has the most fascinating collection of warships (and also a tank) at SL20B S&H. The display of these gorgeous ships (and a tank) is so _excellent_ that you feel like you are in a museum. I had to stand there for what felt like ages, just taking it all in and snapped a few pictures.

*NOTE* The gift at "Astral Technologies" is amazing too, although it is more of a futuristic type of flying ship. Go see "Astral Technologies" on the Tinseled sim and get your free air-ship.

It can happen to anyone, from any walk of life.

20 years ago I had a career that I was incredibly proud of, saving lives, I had a home, mortgage, car and disposable income. I was confident and, even though I hate to blow my own trumpet, I was incredibly good at the work that I did.

I was, however, bullied, harassed, abused, belittled and ostracised by management and many colleagues in a toxic environment where this behaviour had spread like a cancer. This went on daily for 13 years. I thought that I was 'ignoring' it and just knuckling down in my work. I didn't know, until it was too late, that this was damaging both my physical and mental health.

After some time off due to a stress breakdown I returned and the bullying turned into a witch hunt. They succeeded. My mental and physical health had been destroyed. I was wrongly advised to resign by a union that had representatives embedded in management. I was too unwell to pursue any means of recompense.

Losing my career lead to my first Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy attack. This one was nearly fatal.

I have suffered from Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) for at least 20 years as a direct result of this. Only finally receiving help for the condition last year after years of medical denial because the establishment at the time did not understand the connection between non-life threatening instances and PTSD despite mounting evidence. Thankfully it is much better understood today.

The bullies took my career, my confidence, my identity, my physical health, my mental health and now they have taken my relationship and my home. My ex being unable to cope with my PTSD and reacting to it in a way that was making it worse in a cycle that just destroyed our relationship.

Now, unable to work and unable to claim benefits for the moment, unwell, terrified and struggling at times to cope with basic life things, I am facing this horrendous situation that is so daunting there are times that my thoughts go to a very dark place.

I never imagined any of this would happen to me. I was on top of the world back in the early 2000s. The best time of my entire life.

Maybe I deserved this. Maybe I did something terrible in a former life. I don't know. I can't make sense of it.

I don't want to give up just yet. I want to fight back. I just have so little actual physical support. PTSD can cause isolation. Distrust. Withdrawal.

I have lost my few best friends since moving to Scotland for numerous reasons outside of my control. My family are 300 miles away and offer just loving thoughts. I am on my own.

On Friday I will be completely on my own for the first time in 20 years. This time without the confidence and abilities I had back then. I have to try and find them but without safety, comfort and familiarity I face an impossible task. It can take monumental effort just to cook a simple meal. PTSD is a terrible thing to have.

I am sharing my story as I don't know when or how I will return to Flickr.

Photography has been my recovery. My saviour from PTSD. An adrenaline kick from street photography, the excitement of the edit when you return home. Sharing my photographs with you and taking time to enjoy your photographs. The Flickr routine has kept my sanity and been an important part of my day for years now. I fully intend to return but the odds are against me at least for the moment.

Some of you wanted to help by donating towards the expensive Internet costs I will face in temporary housing.

I hate asking for help but please know that I am incredibly grateful for the help that I have received, both financially and otherwise. Just knowing that people care is a help in itself.

If you wish to keep in touch with me via WhatsApp while I am unable to get my PC online then please Flickrmail me your contact details. (bearing in mind that over the next few days my time is limited).

My PC will be packed tomorrow so I may make one more post before I go. I'll make sure it is a happier picture.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am profoundly thankful for the friendships and acquaintances that I have made here. You are all wonderful, awesome people. Thank you.

Homelessness can happen to anyone.

When we used to get proper winters - 37519 passes through Renishaw with a steel service from Lackenby. Not sure where it was going to but I'm sure someone will be able to advise.

One of the coolest snakes I found in Malaysia was this coral snake in Fraser's Hill.

It actively hunts other snakes in the rainforest leaf litter at night. When threatened it lifts its tail or flips over to reveal its white and black underside bands to warn predators it is dangerous.

It has a neurotoxic venom that can be fatal to people, so it is best advised to watch your fingers around these snakes!

"Never love a wild thing, Mr. Bell,' Holly advised him. 'That was Doc's mistake. He was always lugging home wild things. A hawk with a hurt wing. One time it was a full-grown bobcat with a broken leg. But you can't give your heart to a wild thing: the more you do, the stronger they get. Until they're strong enough to run into the woods. Or fly into a tree. Then a taller tree. Then the sky. That's how you'll end up, Mr. Bell. If you let yourself love a wild thing. You'll end up looking at the sky."

Last month I had a Flickrmail from a young Californian man called James. He told me that his girlfriend Emmi was studying in Ireland and he was about to travel over to Ireland to meet up with her on St. Patrick's Day. James said that he was planning to propose to Emmi during his visit and wanted my advise on a nice quiet and scenic coastal location in Dublin for the proposal. Wow, talk about putting me under pressure, LOL! After a little thought I suggested the above elevated location in a large parkland at Killiney Hill and gave him detailed directions.

I didn't think I would hear from James again. However earlier this week I got another Flickrmail from a very happy James. He told me that the proposal went very well on Killiney Hill and that they both loved the location! So I'm sure you will all join me in congratulating James and Emmi on their Irish engagement.

I took the above shot a few days ago as a little tribute to the happy couple while I was up for a regular walk on Killiney Hill. The inserts are photos from James and Emmi which they took themselves on Killiney Hill just after the successful proposal. Yes I know the blended image is probably a bit mushy and sentimental...but I'm an incurable romantic, LOL!

(Reached #167 on Explore)

I was recently advised by a member of Butterfly Conservation of where the nearest place to Surrey where you could see this scarce species. Turns out this is Verdley Wood which is not too far north of Midhurst.

I located the spot for them and saw that their main area was divided from the bridleway by a deep trench. However, I did see this one on the edge of the public right of way, so you just have to wait until this happens. The flower, a favourite of theirs, is Bugle.

Jalori Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 10,800 ft (3.120m) above the sea level, situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh that links the inner and outer Seraj valley. The Jalori Mata Temple locate here is visited by thousands of devotees from the nearby villages. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple though small yet it is visited by every person who comes to the pass.

The Sarolsar Lake is located very close to the pass. The drive to reach the pass is unforgettable.

To make sure one gets his vehicle and self well-prepared before driving this road. At the top of the Jalori Pass there are restaurants available to take lunch, and the Mahakali temple known as Jalori Mata, visited by thousands of devotees from the nearby villages. Jalori Pass is the first Indian pass to open every year, and is driveable by all vehicles, but are advised to go down in first gear only, according to Indian signals. This pass remains closed in peak on winter only. So in months of December, January and February one need to check before using this road. Usually opens around second week of March every year and closes mid december, depending on the snow.

The road's winding design, providing stunning panoramic views, is very curvy and fun for a leisurely ride, so it pays to take it slow. From Ghayagi to Jalori Pass, the road is a mix of mud and pebbles restricting the speed of the vehicle to barely 20 kmph. After Shoja, the climb to Jalori Pass is steep and just about 3 kms before the pass, road conditions become bad, narrow and steep which makes it more difficult to climb even in first gear.

A traveller on this road must follow some rules: Extreme caution advised, drive in first gear only, steepest gradient, most dangerous curves along the road.
