Advent
Advent is the time of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas. It is also the start of the liturgical year in the Roman Catholic Church. Find out more about this season, once known as the "little Lent," and incorporate traditional practices into your observance of Advent.

Der Adventskranz, the Advent wreath, is one of the most widespread Christmas customs in German-speaking Europe. As we mentioned in Der Adventskalender, Advent is the four-week period leading up to Christmas. For Catholics and Protestants the Advent season begins on the first Sunday after November 26. On each of the four Advent Sundays leading up to Christmas, a new candle (die Kerze) is added to the Advent wreath. Advent wreaths come in many versions (pine, wood, plastic, metal, etc.), but they are always round and feature four (sometimes five) Advent candles.
In some families each Advent Sunday is devoted to lighting a new candle, singing some carols, and reading verses from the Bible. Although the Advent wreath is a very Christian tradition, its origins go back to pagan, pre-Christian times.

This is an advent calendar my Grandme made for me when I was a little girl in the 1970s. Just looking at these little pieces makes me smile. These represent the perfect ornaments to me, and it's probably why I like to do so much with felt at this time of the year...
Advent again. It's like it happens every year!
I had some trouble, despite taking SO MANY photos this year, and opportunistically grabbing that 25 when I saw it just for this.
The hardest one though was 22. I will entertain no questions as regards the number of yellow penguins, especially from my sisters. No.
Nothing wrong with that 13 either. Just a rounding error.
Oh, and number 18 might look the same as last year, and it is... but I took another photo of it, and never realised until this morning!

This year's Advent calendar has also the theme: "Christmas Wreaths Everywhere". Most of the Christmas wreaths were made by my mother over the years, three made me and four are bought in stores.
Christmas days will alternate with indoor and outdoor scenes. Sometimes you will see one doll, sometimes a couple or a doll with a children.
On the each advent day will be some christmas activity, which dolls will be they do.

Without snow the atmosphere isn't so 'Christmasy', but this 5 shot stitch shows part of the Advent market at Schloss Hof. The actual palace is behind me. The view here shows the administrative building, the Orangerie, a bit of the stables, and the entrance to the manor house. There are plenty more stands inside the manor house buildings and yards, pony rides, a petting zoo, warm food and drink.

Today's LEGO Advent calendars give us a Space Shuttle fuel tank and booster rockets (City), a table with three stacked jars for target practice (Friends), and R2-D2 with antlers on his head (!) (Star Wars).

Hach, dieses Jahr bin ich wirklich voll im Weihnachtsmodus. Seit Jahren (ich glaube, tatsächlich seit ZEHN Jahren!) ist es bei der Arbeit endlich in der Vorweihnachtszeit einmal recht ruhig und entspannt, sodass ich an den Wochenenden Zeit zum Basteln, Backen, Kochen und Dekorieren habe. Und davon mache ich reichlich Gebrauch. :-)
Happy Advent again to all of you - for today's photo I ventured into the blizzard-stricken Old Town where I was almost all alone. The snowfall was really heavy! I got that nostalgic storybook feeling that I hope my photo also conveys.

It was Vivien's turn to choose today's little object for the Advent tree. She chose one of the red ones - naturally!
