Adjusting the camera while its recording video

No adjustments made to anything in this one. This is what the sun looked like. Don't recall that I've seen this before!! Kinda cool.

I am posting a series of photos of the garage/workshop at the cottage. We are now looking around inside. All of the photos are HDRs, most with a little bit of Topaz Adjust added.

This is the fourth of the series; the previous three are directly back in my Photostream. I'll put a b&w version of this one in the Comment section, below.

What do you do when the sky is gray and the weather is windy and cold and you are at the ocean?? I figured it was macro time and started taking photos of the kelp and seagrass offerings the tide left on the beach. This was challenging and fun assignment. Making something out of nothing. Hope this is as fun for you as it was for me.

Kids of Steel Triathlon 2015

On the occasion of my x0th birthday, here is one from many years earlier. I would guess late '70s when I was 20-something. Boy oh boy, I was skinny.

The photo was taken on film by one of my best loved brothers and digitized much later. (Notice that there is no exposure information in the EXIF data?)

At the time Bass Lake in Ontario (at least my Bass Lake) was 30' deep, with a further arm-length of organic sludge on the bottom. At the time I could breath hold dive all the way down to the bottom and still have some time left over to explore that layer a little. The water was quite clear, populated with bass and carp to about 1/3 of the way down and not overly subject to algae blooms in the spring and summer. I suspect it is mostly dead by now, as that trend was well established by the mid '80s.

This is the coolest thing industrial society produced.

just gotta deal with it

Today's adjustment turned on the light at the end of the tunnel. I got a powerchain on top which means we're in the home stretch. Also had another pan xray taken which the orthodontist seemed very pleased with. Although I don't share his enthusiasm, I do trust he knows what he's doing and I'd be lying if I said his confidence didn't rub off a little. I've been wearing these torture devices for 1.5 years now and they couldn't come off soon enough.

Unfortunately, today was apparently de-bracing day at the ortho's office and I was the only one without an invite. There was a big popcorn machine and a table full of goodies for the lucky ones. I walked out of the office sans popcorn, but with not only one, but three scheduled appointments. Powerchains appear to be high-maintenance !

I am very much looking forward to the day all of this is over and happy to know I'm almost there !

Made by weaving gutted paracord and a buckle from an old watchband. Still room for tweaking and improvement, but functional nonetheless...

We fabricate the female portion of the adjuster in house. The male portion is a Dave Kirk design. We have them made in stainless for us by Paragon Machine Works.

Lens spanners. At top we see my calliper lens spanner. I bent the ends into the shape shown and ground the tips with a diamond file. Below this we see a lens spanner I made from a plasterboard circle cutter. I removed the central part and disregarded it. The two cutting blades I then shaped with files to fit the slots in lens retaining rings. I tempered the ends by heating to straw colour and quenching in oil; below this is its Allen key. Also shown is a standard lens spanner.

Handmade from scratch with love (and patience), silver wire and a stunning Amethyst faceted rectangle in the most beautiful dark purple/grape wine colour. I shaped a ring shank with 1,2mm thick sterling silver wire and gently, gently hammered it for strength and shape. With the help from the tension in the ring’s shank I fastened a coil made from different thicknesses of wire and to get a little sparkle I wire wrapped the Amethyst to the shank. I normally oxidise my jewellery, but for some reason this ring wanted to stay white and shiny. So I only gave it a gentle buff with polish and left it as it is.
