Columbus, Georgia (and much of south eastern North America) is rich in iron deposits in red, yellow, and terra-cotta colored clays. When there is severe weather, torrents can carry clay-rich water into low areas, resulting in reddish, nearly opaque water. After several days without much disturbance, the particles of clay will settle at the bottom of the water, allowing it to clear once more.

I wonder how fish can breath in that stuff.

Insect larvae caught unaware by the severe flooding were swimming along the top of the water, dry because of surface tension... trying to get to dry ground, I suppose. Ducks were swimming, weaving through the partially submerged trees, looking for displaced insects (probably the larvae, I thought to myself while snapping a few shots) for a snack. Some rested on partially submerged cement pick-nick tables.

A tall hill, normally by the water, seems to have become a small island!

I would estimate that the water was 1-2 feet deep in much of the flooded areas of the park, with some places being much deeper, such as the usually dried out creek bed that bends along through a thicket where two deer and some cats usually reside. I wonder what happened to the deer, the cats, or the park's otters?

I was told by someone while shooting photos, that another park had been completely shut down, the gate being closed and locked to keep people out. The flooding there was unbelievable, according to the park-goer.

Even though this looks like a disaster, in a couple of weeks, the waters will probably recede, I would think. This type of flooding has happened in the past on prior occasions. Our creator surely made his works resilient!
