My son's growing up and so it's sadly time to move on his lovely Ridgeback MX20 bicycle. We originally decided on an MX20 as it is a sturdy, rugged and "proper" bike...and it has not disappointed. As you will see from the extensive photo file, the bike has been loved and very well cared for. My son's only ever used it on the short cycle down to our allotment, and less than half a dozen rides on the St. Albans - Hatfield cycle trail. So, overall, it's in excellent condition and would make a fantastic Christmas present for a 6-10 year old. It has always been stored indoors and serviced at Addiktion Cycles in St. Albans.

The only significant scuffs are the usual ones for a kids' bike - minor scuffs to the brake levers, pedals and the rear cog protector. These could be touched up very easily. The extensive photo album on Flickr speaks for itself.

I'm sure you already knew that... But Ihad a little fun with this one...

Because AF of the lens which I bought newly did not match, I adjusted it.

Taken for Active Assignment Weekly - Fancy Pants

So, I had worked on this shot before Christian posted his in the assignment thread and hopefully it is different enough to stand alone.

WIT: A whole bunch of starch!

Just kidding, but it did take a bunch of different attempts, so thank you James for taking your pants off multiple times for photography's sake ;-)

So this is 3 images: 1. James in his pants, 2. Just the background, 3. James in his shorts holding up his pants so I could get the inside (this was the trickiest part)

In CS4 I blended them together with layer masks and some cloning. Then in Lightroom 2 made some color and contrast adjustments.

I am wondering which one will be preferred: the previous photo titled Edge or this one with light and dark adjusted with Photoshop...

Heart shaped bokeh was created using a heart shaped cover on the lens with flash on. Bokeh was from the reflection of the flash on the rain drops. Bokeh not photoshoped. Only color and tune were adjusted.

And here it is. The problem with trying to fill in a whole bunch of absences, is that Photoshop's algorithms tend to look in the local area for information with which to do it; and when you have large areas of more or less uniform color, the minor differences tend to get exaggerated, as the program tries to average things out. Hence the somewhat patchy look of the sky here, on the left, as the program tries to blend in a bit of hazy cloud along with the deeper blue of the beyond. As to finding an equivalent for the chin of the (Major, I think he is) soldier on the left, I must confess that I stole a close match from an adjacent shot, rescaled it to match the pixel width, and then adjusted the fit as best I could.

Note that there is a lot of sky above the trio, and they are not centred, so my theory is that Captain Coupland could see very well that he had nothing left really, in terms of shots, but the CO, the Colonel says – "Captain, let's get one more," and what can a Captain say to a Colonel except – "Yes sir" and so he gets off a quick shot, and changes the roll as the party walks away from the plane to the jeep that will take them to the ceremony. Interesting too that both the Colonel and the Korean Major are holding their cigarettes down and to the back, out of the shot.

Update, 2025: Given the advance in Photoshop tools, I thought I'd go over this one again and repost. The sky is still not perfect, but it's better.

Daylight savings are over for this side of winter... so a chance to catch the sunset after work is a welcome moment or two to relax.

Out with the Pentax KP with the Sigma 50-500 APO HSM for the surf shots (totally in love with this shoulder stretching lens) and round to Wollongong Harbour with the DA16-85 to finish the afternoon off.

Went down to Aberdour to see what sunset/high tide would bring. Instead of going around to the old jetty I decided to make Hawkcraig the subject. Took this from Aberdour Boat Club pier just after sunset.

First time I have used a 10 stop ND filter. Guessed at 60 seconds but I gave it an extra +0.50 EV when I converted the RAW file. Also had to fine tune a Kelvin white balance as the pre-set WB's was giving me bright blues. Cropped and sharpened. No other adjustments. Lee Big Stopper + 0.6 Hard Grad.

This little fella has taunted me & my camera for months now.

(Not that I've actually actively pursued photographing him all that much.)

He visits the red sage in our backyard at least twice a day, but most days when I run to fetch my camera, get it turned on & step out the door, ZOOM! off up into the sky he darts.

Last evening I saw some wonderful light on the trunk of our oleander in the backyard, so I grabbed the tripod, camera, etc. Those pics turned out most lackluster as the sun decided to hide behind cloud cover as soon as I was all set up. Figures!

So I moved over to the flower bed with the red sage, because my volunteer red zinnia is a family of five blossoms now. Well, guess who showed up! Yup, the elusive hummie. :) Naturally I couldn't get the tripod adjusted to catch him that way... In my excitement, I clumsily clanked the remote up against the tripod, startling hummie & the little pooh-head flew instantly off!

I had to go indoors for something else. So took the camera off of the tripod, went indoors to do my thing, then back outdoors & there s/he was again. So, I tip-toed as quietly as mouse to the center of the patio, focused, snapped, ...those were really too far away, but I thought -possibly- crop-able. Tip-toed closer, snap snap, closer, snap snap & then he finally flew off again. Then I sat myself down on the cottage stone wall around that flower bed & waited... the dude never returned, alas. But at least my stalking him/her yielded this one. :)

This isn't a wonderful noteworthy shot like Digital Gurl's or kwilliam's, but it's the best one I've managed so far, better than my first and second attempts, so I think anyway, even though there was really no decent sunlight to illuminate him like in my second.

These little birds are so doggone flighty & fast.

Larger, if you wish.

After my forest walk and little dance I'd better do a stocking adjustment to make sure that both stocking tops are well aligned again. All those movements may cause the hold-ups to slide down my legs a little and sure enough the stocking on the right did so; it's about an inch lower than the left stocking. Let's do a delicate little pull on the stocking top to get it up higher on my leg where it belongs. I love doing this, it feels so wonderfully feminine and seductive. And yes, for those who wondered: my panties are in shiny pink satin too.

Not entirely sure how I got this effect... my son is in there somewhere...

I loved how there is a shadow of someone on each skirt, and they are pretty :)
