So, as I'm getting ready to jet off elsewhere, I've spent some time actually opening some boxes before flying off again.

In addition to the Black Canary that I mangled, I brought back three additional Bishoujo statues - Black Widow (version 2 I believe), Wonder Woman (Standard Edition), and Power Girl, all of which came with a box, and was most of the reason I had to actually mail stuff home.

Without getting into specifics yet. the overall rating, as it were, for these range from good to average. You'll notice on all of them, as usual, there's some deviation from the source art. Sometimes is subtle, like with Widow and Power Girl, but with Wonder Woman it changes the feeling and energy of the statue completely. More than anything else, this is what makes or breaks the statue for me.

Starting with Black Widow, I believe the first version of her is the one without the wall, as this version is in scale with modern Bishoujo (earlier releases were 1/8). You have the loose Daredevil mask that is used as a piece on the base, and your choice of either an empty hand or her sniper rifle, while her other hand is balanced on the top of the worlds shortest brick wall.

The deviation between this and its art is probably the least of the three statues, mainly the head tilt and a bit of the hair detailing gone missing. The overall body and outfit look about right. Sculpting detailing is as expected, which includes the hands, though the Sniper Rifle hand has this plastic support on the palm, which is unfortunate though it is hidden.

Paint is generally good, but I don't understand why her hair is two tone, and not in the good way - the bangs are noticable darker than the back of her head. It would be idiotic if this was due to different plastic used because, well, it's a $90 USD statue. Metallic paint apps are sublime. Build wise, nothing major to report, though there's not exactly a whole lot of parts here. Most noticeable gap is on the hair, but otherwise, everything else is assembled and finished nicely.

ADDS NAME AND AGE OF SLAIN YOUTH - Flowers adorn the fresh grave of slain 18-year-old Antonio Sanchez Valencia as mourners bury another victim from the same shooting in Apatzingan, Michoacan state, Mexico, Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015. Confrontations in Apatzingan began Tuesday when federal forces moved in to take control of city hall, which had been held for days by civilians whose demands and identities were unclear, according to Michoacan state Commissioner Alfredo Castillo. The second clash came when gunmen attacked soldiers who were transporting the seized vehicles to an impound lot, Castillo said. However, family members and witnesses tell a different story, one with a higher death toll. (AP Photo/Rebecca Blackwell)

Swimsuit Addition @ Hymie's Records, Minneapolis, MN - April 4th, 2015

Built in 1928 with substantial additions in 1951, this Spanish Colonial Revival-style building was designed by C. W. Dickey & Hart Wood, Robert Miller, and Rothwell Kangeter & Lester to house the offices of the City and County of Honolulu. The building features a white stucco exterior with an irregular footprint, red tile hipped roofs, a taller tower with faux juliet balconies, four pinnacles, and window trim, a shorter tower with an Art Deco-inspired massing, a large date stone and dedication plaque at one corner, and a juliet balcony at one window, ionic pilasters, steel windows, a front entrance with three double doors featuring blind arches with cartouches above, masonry screens with a variety of patterns, unadorned parapets, and a courtyard between the two wings added in 1951, which feature arched panels around the first and second floor windows, ionic pilasters between the third floor windows, and detailing nearly indistinguishable from the original building. A small one-story addition from after 1951 with a low-slope roof extends to the south of the front facade of the original building, and features windows separated by ionic pilasters. Inside, the building features a large enclosed courtyard-like atrium with a decorative painted wood beam ceiling, with frescoes painted by Einar Peterson, a grand staircase, encircling arched arcades and balconies, and several Juliet Balconies, modeled on the interior of the Bargello in Florence, Italy. The building continues to house some government offices and meeting spaces for the City and County of Honolulu, though it was supplemented with the construction of the high-rise Municipal Office Building nearby in 1973, and the acquisition of the Mission Memorial Building by the city in 1947. The building is a contributing structure in the Hawaii Capital Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

This young cat has shown up at cat lady's house. Really lovely, but very wary of humans. Hopefully this will change!

In addition to the carving of a skull in the centre of the ball court, this carving sits at one end of the field. Not sure on the purpose of this one
