When you put one-month videos of the Sun from periods about 2.5 years apart, the increase in solar activity is remarkable. We took video from October, 2010 and set it next to video from May, 2013 in the 171 Angstrom wavelength of extreme ultraviolet light. The number and intensity of active regions, seen as brighter areas and numerous loops above them, increased dramatically as the Sun is approaching its maximum level of activity which is expected to occur either late 2013 or early 2014.

Easter Sunday - unlike the day before - dawned clear and warm and sunny. Consequently, the day was filled in in a variety of ways...

Though not pictured above, St John's (Anglican) Church in the Wellington suburb of Trentham was (to my surprise!) full; who says New Zealanders don't observe special days like Easter?).

Early in the afternoon, we took our young student from Japan and her girlfriend (also from Japan) to the beach at McKay's Crossing. During the course of the afternoon, we saw

Upper Left - Para-gliders soaring on unseen currents of air along the face of the Paekakarekei Hills (though personally, I prefer to have a few bits of aluminium around me when "up" there!);

Upper Centre - Sheep (and a very large flock at that) grazing contentedly. The Girls were very excited to see so many sheep in one paddock;

Upper Right - One of the last Air New Zealand flights on Final Approach for nearby Paraparaumu Airport; unfortunately, the propellers stopped turning in this shot! (In an extremely unpopular move, Air New Zealand are about to discontinue flights to this airport);

Lower Left - One of two beautiful young horses trotting happily along the McKay's beach - each with its young Rider riding bare-back;

Lower Centre - a low-flying young Black-Backed Gull (one of many!), and

Lower Right - lots of happy people ambling along a beautiful stretch of coastline on a beautiful warm sunny afternoon!

Live Action Christie has always been a holy grail doll of mine which was finally realised about three years ago when a doll friend gifted me her mother’s severely broken one (as the doll friend was into American Girl dolls and not Barbie). I’ve always treasured it, and I put a lot of work into colour matching a Fashionista to match the head. I use a lot of shortcuts for later spray paint bodies but this was one of the only bodies I’ve used EVERY trick to make sure the body held up colour wise.

However I’ve always treated her with kid gloves cuz even with all the sanding, dyeing joints and general hoo hah, I couldn’t really redress her in form fitting clothes or proper shoes without risking chipping, so I was filled with both joy and utter despair at Mattel releasing another articulated doll in a super dark skin tone because it gave me a chance to have a non painted body, but also I know how quickly it gets snapped up and scalped online.

Funny enough though, the very same day I made an Amazon account to try buying Fashionista Ken dolls, Wormmommy on Instagram said the doll was restocked, and surprise, surprise, the doll ships internationally. Of course half an hour later the doll was sold out again so it was fate I guess.

I was in agony waiting for the doll to get here that when I opened up the box I immediately ripped of Music Activity’s head and fitted Christie’s head on.

I actually really love the single jointed doll bodies, and I would be content if Mattel released the Fashionistas once again with these bodies cuz it’s much better than what we currently have. This body’s upper body I absolutely adore sculpt wise and find it far superior to the 2010 Fashionista bodies, however the hips are garbage and can’t sit up at 90 degrees. But hey, I can always fudge that.

Accessories wise, I like everything cuz it has this very urban/Hip Hop/RnB music set up and it’s very realistically coloured, even if it’s severely underscale. The pink guitar is hollow and flimsy and completely clashes with the rest of the set so I didn’t even bother with it.

As for the doll head itself? It’s absolute garbage. The eye print is wonky AND chipping, half of the hair is a LOT shorter than the other and the hair isn’t curly but rather flat and matted. I tried brushing it but there’s knots and tangles which would require a lot of work.

But yeah, while I like a lot of things about it, I’m kind of tired about Mattel’s shitty distribution and how many design flaws there is with the hips, the doll’s head, and the fact that quality control can be hit or miss….
