My second shot from "The View" features Jenny McCarthy. Jenny is an American model, television host, comedic actress, author, and anti-vaccine activist. She began her career in 1993 as a nude model for Playboy magazine and was later named their Playmate of the Year. McCarthy then parlayed her Playboy fame into a television and film acting career.
Rules for photography while at "The View" were lenient but a bit strange. Cellphones and tablets could not be used, or even turned on at all, but any regular camera was fine to use. Cameras could only be used while the show was on commercial break and must be kept out of sight, preferably under your seat, when "The View" was filming. You have to shoot quickly since commercial break camera time is only a few minutes and for most of the time the cast is surrounded by make up people and hair stylists doing touch up work. It was a fun challenge!
At about 2.40 pm on Saturday 25 June, hundreds of activists staged a flash sit-down protest to close down London's Oxford Circus in protest at the UK continuing to provide diplomatic, military and logistical support to Israel during its ongoing genocidal assault on Gaza. [1]
Many of the activists had met up earlier at around noon at a Youth Demand (see YouthDemand.org) event at Victoria Embankment Gardens where they listened to some speeches before they dispersed in small groups, some followed by the police, but despite the challenging circumstances they seem to have been able to travel across central London presumably in different directions and regroup around Oxford Circus in a well planned and well coordinated protest.
Activists explained to onlookers that they had to carry out the action to try to prevent genocide. At one point a Palestinian shopper who came across the action by accident, spoke to the protesters, urging them not to give up.
Many refused to leave the road when threatened with arrest by the police.
According to the Morning Star, citing Youth Demand, 21 activists were arrested, but I don't know how many, if any, were subsequently charged.

As of 24 June 2024, at least 37,626 Palestinians have been killed since 7 October, including more than 15,000 children. An estimated 10,000 are missing, of whom most are probably dead.
There is also an unknown number of additional deaths due to excess mortality from food shortages, disease and difficulties in obtaining essential medical care and medicines, while more than 86,000 Palestinians have been injured, many of them with life-changing injuries including many amputations. According to the United Nations, as of 23 June, more than half of all residential buildings have been destroyed or damaged but with some key infrastructure the destruction is even more devastating - including 130 ambulances, 267 places of worship, 80% of commercial facilities and 88% of school buildings damaged or destroyed.

Additionally, as of February, the UN reported that some 83% of groundwater wells are no longer operational, adding that "all wastewater treatment systems are not working, and there is no access to clean water in the northern governorates."

And as of 27 May, 8875 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank since 7 October 2023, many of them held in indefinite detention with no right to trial, while the Israeli military and settlers have escalated their attacks on Palestinians across the West Bank killing 518 Palestinians.

Footnote
1. Re use of the term genocide. In March the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, referring to Israel's "unrelenting assault on occupied Gaza," stated that "there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating the commission of the crime of genocide…has been met.”

Connors' rival, both as upcoming saloon owner and in the voluntary fire brigade, is Steve Brodie (George Raft). Soon, both also become rival in love of Lucy (Fay Wray), a homeless girl Connors has saved - causing the jealous Swipes to move in with Brodie. Connors bets his saloon against Brodie to challenge him to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Brodie eventually does so when his plan to use a dummy falls through. Connors then sees no problem when temperance activists destroy his saloon. Until he hears about the dummy...

Well I might have looked like Citizen Smith going to vote yesterday in my socialist red beret but I didn't stride in to my polling station singing 'The Red Flag Flying' besides lol I've got my very own Jojo Smooth Bottom Party to promote as I do love touching smooth bodies. However I got the the election officials scratching their heads as officially I'm still a guy and even though when they realised they were slighly embarrassed I told them not to worry as they were paying me a compliment. I've always been lucky but these days very few people can really tell I'm just a trans girl..
I dedicate this series of posters to my good friend Barrybar. He is one of the most interesting and knowledgable person I have met on Flickr. Although he would not agree, Barrybar is a true Renaissance Man. Ever since I met Barrybar he has continuously shared with me some of the most eye opening and important information you can find on the internet or in a book. Nestled amongst his wonderful photographs from his travels around the world are also important articles and information about missing pieces of history and the global power networks conspiracy. Articles of interest he has shared includes the growing police state and our declining freedoms. Usually, he apologizes for sending me all these reading materials. However, I treasure them and thank him for expanding my understanding of what is happening to humanity. These valuable bits of information are available for everyone with a computer to study. Very few wish to enlighten themselves with this knowledge, so many are afraid to discover the truth. You can see that by how few people are willing to participate in meaningful discussion on such topics. The comfortable FEAR implanted to deny ourselves of the truth is powerful. Many prefer to keep the intoxicating blind fold tightly bound. The shattering truth is hidden all around us to discover. I hope in 2011 more Americans and the global community in general will remove the blindfold and see the truth before it is too late to do so. Thank you, Barrybar, for your determined efforts to open the door of Truth.

Full-Body Scan Technology Deployed In Street-Roving Vans
As the privacy controversy around full-body security scans begins to simmer, it’s worth noting that courthouses and airport security checkpoints aren’t the only places where backscatter x-ray vision is being deployed. The same technology, capable of seeing through clothes and walls, has also been rolling out on U.S. streets.

As Thomas Edison observed: "If the Nation can issue a dollar bond it can issue a dollar bill. The element that makes the bond good makes the bill good also. The difference between the bond and the bill is that the bond lets the money broker collect twice the amount of the bond and an additional 20%. Whereas the currency, the honest sort provided by the Constitution pays nobody but those who contribute in some useful way."

Monitoring America
Nine years after the terrorist attacks of 2001, the United States is assembling a vast domestic intelligence apparatus to collect information about Americans, using the FBI, local police, state homeland security offices and military criminal investigators. The system, by far the largest and most technologically sophisticated in the nation's history, collects, stores and analyzes information about thousands of U.S. citizens and residents, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Darkness and peace activists
Speaking of: original. The battle for the trademark "Sachertorte" employed the courts of the Republic of Austria until 1963. Finally, the Wider-Sacher (sacher antagonists) agreed out of court on this settlement: Only the Hotel Sacher may use the name "Original Sacher-Torte", the Viennese confectionery Demel must offer their product as "Eduard Sacher-Torte".
Anna Sacher has not experienced the darkest years of her hotel. When she died in 1930, Austria had become the most popular tourist destination of the Germans. In 1933, the Nazi government stopped this trend with the so-called thousand mark barrier: every German citizen had to pay a fee of 1000 Reichsmark before traveling to Austria. The Austrian tourism industry suddenly lost 85 percent of its German guests, many businesses were ruined. In 1934, the Hotel Sacher filed for bankruptcy.
In 1938, Adolf Hitler proclaimed on the Heroes' Square in Vienna with a pathetically trembling voice "before history the entrance of my homeland into the German Reich". - More than 100,000 Austrians shouted: "Sieg Heil!". The swastika flag fluttered on the façade of the Hotel Sacher. From 1945 Vienna was controlled by the victorious powers similar to Berlin. Americans, Russians, British and French patrolled Vienna together, in doing so inspiring to the classic movie "The Four in the Jeep". However, the penicillin trafficker Harry Lime, depicted by Orson Welles, was staged in an artistically and commercially impressive manner.
No, "The Third Man" does not play in the Hotel Sacher. But English author Graham Greene stayed here while researching the film script in bombed Vienna. The British had lodged in the Sacher and ran a well-stocked bar there - gin, scotch, Irish whiskey - and a restaurant for the upper ranks.
During a joint lunch at the Sacher, a British secret service employee provided the novelist with the brilliant idea for a film backdrop. Ironically, in this atmosphere the location scout with Graham Greene aroused curiosity about the city's underground sewer system. Immediately after the meal, Greene and his informant visited this sewage underworld - ugh. But script fee does not stink.
20 years later, another Englishman immortalized himself with his peace-giving measure in the guest chronicle of the Hotel Sacher. In 1969, John Lennon and his newlywed wife Yoko Ono used the worldwide media interest in their bedroom activities to spread their message: "Give Peace A Chance!"
Ono-Lennon's bridal chamber was packed with journalists as John and Yoko - hidden under white cloth - chanted about the inability of the politicians, the secret wishes of the Queen and other world problems. Most of the attendees of this press conference in the Sacher Suite 312 did not or could not seriously question the meaning of the political happening. Only the former ORF reporter André Heller gave the impression that he could respect John and Yoko and understand their message: "peace".
With the supermarket bag to the Sacher
What the two peace apostles were doing there in the Sacher, the Beatles fans learned a few weeks later by the hit single "Ballad Of John And Yoko". For example, on their "Trip to Vienna", the honeymooners had eaten "chocolate cake in a bag". John and Yoko had crawled into a sack and ate a Sachertorte in it - maybe even today a recommended nightcap after a night of drinking.
It does not always have to be world peace. Also in the Sacher life is happening on a smaller scale. For example, it was enough for a Leonard Bernstein if he could immediately sit down at the piano and "compose" or rehearse on arrival "in his Viennese living room". The main thing, this schedule was meticulously met: In the morning, the movers brought his instrument - the composer of "West Side Story" never traveled without his own piano - in the amber room, then the piano tuner did his job, around noon, the maestro appeared.
Another habit: as a regular guest conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein booked the same suite on each of his visits to the world capital of music. The reason for this loyalty was revealed to the Sacher management only when Lenny missed his favorite picture on the wall during one of his hotel stays. No problem. Eduard Veit's painting "Black and Blonde" was immediately put back where it should be.
AC/DC, the Callas, Mireille Matthieu, Comedian Harmonists, Otto Waalkes, the BeeGees and Andi Borg - they all have stayed at the Sacher. But the most prominent permanent hotel guest was not a musician, but a professional music listener: Marcell Horace Frydman Knight of Prawy. Or just Marcel Prawy. Until his death in 2003, he was considered the Austrian "opera leader of the nation". His trademark was the plastic shopping bags of the supermarket chain "Billa", in which he dragged sheet music and notes around.
During the last ten years of Marcel Prawy's life, the hotel was the shortest walk to the back entrance of the Vienna State Opera as his permanent home address. This suggests the upscale lifestyle of a privileged, but it certainly leads to complications - especially when in Sacher once again descends a president, the entire hotel has been declared a high-security wing and opposite the uniformed sniper on the roof of the opera sit on lookout.
On the state visit of a ruler of the upper threat class Marcel Prawy was prevented by the police from entering his apartment. Protest futile. So he used the remedy that always works immediately in a foreign-friendly city like Vienna: Prawy explains in awkward English that he is an Arab sheikh and must necessarily visit his friend, the president - and he is waved by.
Luckily the Sacher regular had not claimed he was Marcel Prawy. The police would have taken him on suspicion that somebody was imitating his voice familiar to every ORF radio listener in order to get into the Hotel Sacher without authorization.
Finsternis und Friedensbewegte
Apropos: Original.

She was tired of getting hit on by dudes who were calling her avatar "hot" or "sexy" whenever she was wearing an outfit showing some skin. She was tired of getting hit on by another kind of dudes who were calling her "a respectable woman", "not a whore", when she was wearing something else than an outfit showing some skin. She knew that no one should dress accordingly to other people, and especially for males, expectations. But she wanted to lead a social experiment. So she decided to go litterally half naked. Well, she had to cover her naughty bits, indeed. Since the first kind of males were only 50% into her for showing skin and the second kinf of males were only 50% into her for covering her top, they weren't messaging her anymore. She had won the war against controlling douchebags. Or maybe not ?

A project of 17 portraits of activists from the gay community in Israel, the works were painted in 2005-2003
The drawings are in a hyper-realistic style of activists and activities from the gay community in Israel, of course there are other iconic figures that I did not draw so I apologize in advance to them, the activists are from the political, cultural and nightlife fields who contributed to the gay community during the 80's and 90's of the twentieth century.
Professor Uzi Even - Professor of Chemistry. The first homosexual MK in Israel, contributed to the promotion of LGBT rights in the workplace, adoption of children, gay marriage.
Theo Mintz - one of the founders of the Gay Lesbian and Transgender Association in Israel.
Ran Kotzer - film director. TV show producer, documentary maker of the films: Cause of Death Homophobia, Gay Games and a documentary on Amos Gutman.
Tal Eitan - fashion and advertising photographer, exhibition curator and nightlife man.
Avi Sofer - jeweler and glass maker, former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Chai Ben Shoshan lives - a man of the night life and was chosen for the Israel Man of the Year competition.
Itai Pankas - former chairman of the LGBT Association, one of the founders of the gay center, branches of the association in the periphery, and a former activist in municipal politics who greatly promoted the rights of the community in Tel Aviv.
Irit Rabinowitz - Israeli painter, born in Beer Sheva.
Michal Eden - lawyer and the first gay politician in Israel. Active in KLF - a feminist lesbian community, promoting the issue of surrogacy, proud parenthood, LGBT rights, the establishment of Beit Dror - a daycare center for boys and girls from the community who were thrown out of their families.
Yuval Hatz - event producer and triathlon athlete and promotes sports in the gay community.
Alon Strykovski - former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Zvi Mermelstein - a homosexual poet, the author of the masterful book "Suiting Upper and Lower Openings".
Shaz - Israeli poet and writer.
Eli Sharon - IDF officer with the rank of the first proud colonel. In the past he was involved in promoting gay tourism and having a couple therapist.
Rami Hasman - Advertiser and one of the leaders of the fight for carrier rights and the promotion of information about AIDS in Israel.
Aitzik Yoshua - journalist and former chairman of the LGBT Association.
Gadi Sasson - Journalist, writer and editor of the Pink Time magazine.
The process of working on the series of portrait paintings was through a meeting at the activists' homes, I photographed them and then I worked with the technique of photorealism on these paintings (like the famous painter Chuck Close) I started with a very careful drawing on a white canvas - I did the drawing with a projector Slides when the photograph is projected onto the white canvas and then a kind of map is created that gives the contours and tonalities of the color from light to dark, after I finished the drawing then I chose the color palette that I want to use to create the portraits, as a painter I almost touch all types of techniques: From painting in the style of photorealism, many paintings and drawings were made from observing objects, still life, flowers, figures or from freely observing any kind of photography... and of course many paintings were made freely from the imagination, so technically I allow myself to use a huge selection of most painting techniques , also with the many years of experience I have experimented with all mediums from pencil drawings, markers, markers, ink, oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolors, gouache paints, works on paper and canvas fabrics, works on wooden plywood, works on books,
I was surprised to see that most of the activists, regardless of their activities for the gay community, are dominant figures in the life of Israeli society, most of them officers in the IDF (as opposed to the image that gays have as if they are not suitable for the army) with professions that contribute greatly to the development of Israeli society on an economic, cultural and social level.
Most of them are in a high economic situation and from the elite of Israeli society,
I painted them in their natural environment, in the beautiful and well-kept houses and some of them are just a portrait without a background.
My goal was actually to show the bourgeois side of the community, through the painting of the conservative realist style, through the portrait against the background of the interior of the well-kept house in which they live, and choosing activists of all ages (as opposed to the many representations given to gays who are shown infrequently or marginally, or excessive preoccupation with the culture of body worship , the beauty and youth as is often shown in the gay community. I also have quite a few such works...
In the series of portraits, I wanted to emphasize the occupation and contribution to the community.
This project was featured on the pages of the Pink Time magazine for months, with the resume description of each and every activist.
In 2009 on the day of the Pride Parade, (a mass event with hundreds of thousands of people) Avi Sofer curated the exhibition dedicated to this project of the activists' paintings in the gay center.
A large and significant part of these works were purchased by the collector Amos Shokan who purchased hundreds of my works.
These paintings continue to receive great exposure on the Internet following the many publications given over the years to this special project.
For me it was a way to give back to the gay community for the many years that gay community settings such as businesses, cafes, magazines, gay centers presented my works, supported me as an artist and members of the community also purchased works of art from me and allowed me to continue creating and working, a complex task in itself for any artist to survive from his art.
Over the years my work as an artist has changed and I would characterize it in two main painting styles, one painting style is the realistic painting with which I created the series of paintings of heterosexual couples, gays, lesbians, pregnant women, the series of portraits from the gay community in the style of photorealism, a realistic painting of the partner Assaf Hennigsberg in a realistic style - colorful and the series of paintings of the realistic expressive flower couples, and on the other hand there is the other style which is the naive painting with which I mainly painted the urban landscape of cities in Israel and in the world, a kind of idealization of reality and the street paintings full of vegetation, colorful buildings and the use of bright and contrasting colors and a series of naive paintings Under the influence of children's drawings with which I created the series of 40 artist books and other drawings that are influenced by children's drawings...

Dinner time came a little earlier than I expected, and I really needed a beer to relax because I got kicked out of a politically-charged community meeting. I got word through a community activist online newsletter that there was to be a meeting in Houston’s Galleria-Uptown area on the proposed Uptown BRT project. I was not expecting ex-congressman (and convicted felon) Tom Delay from Sugarland and Congressman John Culberson (the “tea party fascist who misrepresents my district) to show up at the meeting. When both crooks were announced, I booed both of them and got dirty looks from the Republicans who surrounded me.
I listened to the presentation by the Uptown Houston civic association and heard good and bad points about the proposed transit project. Some Republicans were upset because they thought the Bus Rapid Transit line being proposed in 2014 on Post Oak Boulevard was really an attempt to sneak in another Light Rail line. I was upset because the Light Rail line APPROVED by the voters in 2003 has been delayed for years and may not ever get built due to unethical political dealing by Culberson.
Houston Metro’s first Light Rail Transit line that connects our downtown with the Texas Medical Center via Main Street and Fannin Street began operating January 1, 2004. Even though ex-congressman Delay’s district is not even in Houston Metro’s service area, Delay stopped federal funding on Metro’s original Red Line, so Metro had to raise the funds entirely from its sales tax. The voters approved a plan to build a large system of 7 lines by 2025, and the first phases of 5 lines were to be up and running by 2012. The corrupt Bush 2.0 junta tried to stop all rail transit projects by cutting as much federal funding as he could get away with. The 2008 Great Recession caused by Bush’s unwise policies also caused our local sales taxes to dwindle and slow down the environmental approval, engineering planning, and actual construction of the new lines. The North Line started running in December 2013, and the Southeast and East End lines are supposed to begin running in December 2014. Rail cars have been doing test runs in the last few weeks. Those three lines are on the other side of town from me.
In my part of town, the east-west University Line and the north-south connecting Uptown Lines got environmental approval and preliminary engineering plans, but since most of the pathway is in Culberson’s fiefdom, he has succeeded in blocking federal funding (and halting construction) because all “tea party” fascists are against ALL rail projects and favor ALL highways. He is a tool of the big, greedy oil companies and claims credit for getting Interstate 10 expanded through “his” district. Of course, the I-10 widening came in years behind schedule, way over budget, and resulted in the destruction of thousands of big trees and hundreds of businesses and homes along the older freeway that was built originally in the 1960’s (also at great cost and destruction).
What really pissed me off at the meeting was that Culberson spoke up and claimed that the I-10 expansion was a consensual process. It was NOT a consensual process with the public. The “no build” option was never given any serious consideration, nor was mass transit considered in lieu of freeway expansion. The superhighway expansion was always treated as a “done deal” in spite of the high financial price tag or heavy environmental cost. His lies caused me to lose my cool, and I stood up at the meeting, faced him, and told him that there was no public consensus on the I-10 expansion. He made me so damned mad that I said the I-10 expansion was shoved up our ass (instead of “down our throats” as I thought afterwards), so I was told to leave by the cops. Well, I showed ‘em!
I wore this cotton print dress with my Richmond Rail button. I’m part of Richmond Rail.org, a civic group that got the University Line approved in 2007 as Light Rail running down the center of Richmond Avenue for several miles of its 10 mile projected length. The plan is still on the table, but there is no funding at present. Even though voters approved the Uptown Line for Light Rail, it looks like it may be built as Bus Rapid Transit without an option to upgrade to LRT. That really won’t help our transit system very much.
Notice the Minolta SRT-101 over his shoulder? He and I spent time in the darkroom together starting from when I was 8 years old.
Here he is speaking to a crowd at a rally against the Vietnam War. He had a tremendous heart and spirit even though it was his heart that gave out on him. He's in the darkroom with me to this day.

On Sunday Nov 13, about a hundred people attended the Vigil for Our Democracy in Perry Square, 6th and State St, Erie PA. Organizer Daniel Doubet of Keystone Progress described it as follows: "This a peaceful space for those coping with the election results. This election threatens our core values as a country, and our vulnerable friends and neighbors. And while the results were devastating, we hope to find solace by standing together for our core democratic principles. We reject hatred, and stand vigilant for those in our community who are vulnerable targets for this hatred." The vigil was not a protest against President-Elect Donald Trump, but a stand against hatred. Speakers included Pastor Harry Euell of Faith Temple Church; Rev. Dr. Rich McCarty of Community United Church, Edinboro University professor Lisa Austin, Heather Garczynski, Selena King, political activist Matthew Hatfield, and Daniel Doubet. In between speakers, Daniel encouraged people to talk--really talk--to one another.
Daniel later clarified:
Fhis was not a white flag of surrender. While we were not there to dispute the election results, we WERE there because the election results have lead directly to a wave of hate, violence and intimidation across the country, and there's no place for that here.
And should the forces of hate consider lashing out in our community, we came out to remind them we are vigilant. And there will be more actions we can take, very soon.
Below are Daniel's remarks from the vigil.
We are here for solidarity.
The forces that would control us want us to hate each other. They want us to be suspicious of difference, instead of valuing it. The price for petty political advancement is dividing a nation. Turning neighbors against each other, turning rich against poor, white against black, men against women. We defy division. We defy hate. We learn from each other. We are empowered by each other. And we are better because of each other. To anybody here who feels unsafe, or unwanted or villainized because of who you are: you are not alone, you are valuable, you are necessary to our community. You are America.
We are here for Vigilance
The forces of hate did not appear on Tuesday. Structural racism, patriarchy, homophobia have been forces in this country long before this presidential campaign. But over the course of history we have won victories, the right to vote, the right to marry who you love, the right to go to work without being attacked or belittled. And what Tuesday reminds us is that, though these victories were won, we must protect them. We will not go backward from these victories, even if some think that would be “great.” We go forward. Only Forward.
We are here for dignity.
Dignity for all of our brothers and sisters, regardless of their gender, their race, who they love, their identity or their ability. All people deserve respect, justice and equal treatment under law. Since Tuesday, I’ve spent a lot of time pondering whether or not good people can do bad things. What I know is that people can change. And through the expansion of Dignity to those who don't feel held in it's graces, by demonstrating the value of all people, the divisions imposed on us by weak leaders will be torn asunder. We will can boldy attend to the injustices, large and small to all people, with new friends to join us. Our dignity is their dignity. Their dignity is our dignity. Your dignity is my dignity. Our dignity is our nation’s dignity.

Kellyanne Elizabeth Conway (née Fitzpatrick; born January 20, 1967) is an American political activist currently serving as Counselor to the President for Donald Trump and has also been a Republican Party campaign manager, strategist, and pollster who was formerly president and CEO of The Polling Company Inc./Woman Trend.
In 2016, Conway endorsed Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primaries and chaired a pro-Cruz political action committee, Keep the Promise I, which ran advertisements critical of then Republican candidate Donald Trump. On July 1, 2016, after Cruz withdrew from the race, Donald Trump appointed her as a senior advisor, and later campaign manager to his campaign. She was the first woman to successfully run a presidential campaign. On December 22, 2016, Trump announced that Conway would join his administration as Counselor to the President, serving alongside Steve Bannon, assistant to the President and White House chief strategist.

Acclaimed First Nations musician/songwriter/activist, Buffy Sainte-Marie, performed at Toronto's outdoor Dundas Square last night, a free concert presented by Thunderbird Aboriginal Arts Centre. Fabulous!! At 70 years of age, the talented '60's Canadian icon seethed with energy, passion & generosity of spirit. Playing guitar & keyboard with her band, she offered all her greats, including the Academy Award winning "Up Where We Belong ( a huge hit for Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warrens on the soundtrack of the movie "An Officer & a Gentleman), the powerful "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" & 'Universal Soldier' the anti- war song that got her black-listed from the US airwaves in the '70's for being ' too radical'. She's back! Big time! In the midst of a world tour, gathering accolades from both press & fans & her message for peace & a kinder world stronger than ever. Thank you, Buffy!!

On the street a couple of weeks ago in Frankfurt. No idea what's written on the sign - I will ask my Chinese colleagues about that - but she spontaneously took posed for the picture.
Well, I was explained she's a Falun Gong activist and the sign denounces the persecution of Falun Gong followers by the Chinese government. A rather arcane story, to me at least. In any case they have a handful of people quietly demonstrating in downtown pretty much every week-end

"Who is Robyn Gigl?", one may ask. . . For the benefit of those who may be unfamiliar with her, Robyn Gigl happens to be a very special woman, and one of Joni's heroes. First and foremost, Robyn is an activist transwoman and a licensed attorney in the State of New Jersey, where she has practiced law for more than 40 years. She has been an active litigator, representing clients in both the state and federal courts. Robyn has been honored by the ACLU of New Jersey as well as the New Jersey Pride Network for her work on behalf of the LGBTQ community. Robyn has been an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, where among other things, she is a member of its Diversity Committee and served as a Past Chair of the State Bar's LGBTQ Rights Section. She was also appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the Court's Committee on Diversity Inclusion and Community Engagement. Additionally, she is also a member of the Board of Directors of Garden State Equality, New Jersey's largest LGBTQ+ Civil Rights Organization, and a frequent lecturer in academic and corporate circles on diversity issues.
However, Robyn is much more than an influential civil rights attorney. She is also an acclaimed author of four novels in which she chronicles the challenges and adventures of her protagonist, a New Jersey criminal defense attorney who happens to be a transwoman, just like Robyn, although the books are not autobiographical in nature. Her first book, entitled "BY WAY OF SORROW" is a page-turning legal thriller revolving around murders and a corrupt political system. It was well received by the New York Times Book Review, which called it, "An emotionally resonant debut . . . and quietly groundbreaking." Joni has read the book as well and awards it five stars, as it transcends the usual transgender genres.
Robyn has since published three more novels in the series with the same transgender defense attorney as her protagonist: "SURVIVOR'S GUILT", "REMAIN SILENT", and "NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH". Her protagonist, "Erin McCabe", is destined to become one of the most famous fictional transgender characters in literature, if she isn't already!
So one might be wondering how a flirty T-Girl like Joni wound up connecting with an influential Transwoman of considerable gravitas like Robyn? Well, Joni must at the outset credit her friend Emily Jo Donatello, who is also a good friend of Robyn and served as an intermediary. Emily Jo had posted a couple of items on her photostream touting Ms. Gigl's books, and the name "Gigl" rang a bell in Joni's memory bank. Joni's curiosity was piqued and after conducting some research, Joni advised Ms. Donatello that she believed she was acquainted with Robyn from her distant past; a belief which Emily Jo confirmed, and who facilitated their subsequent meeting by providing Joni with Robyn's email address. Thereafter, Joni contacted Robyn and arranged to meet her over dinner on one of Joni's recent trips back to New Jersey where they reconnected.
It turns out that Robyn and Joni graduated from the same high school one year apart, where they were actually teammates running on the track team, Although they were teammates, they ran in different circles, so to speak. Robyn was a short, but swift-footed sprinter and Joni was a skinny cross-country/distance runner and as such, they had minimal contact with each other, even though they trained on the same track and rode on the same team bus to meets. Ironically, Robyn returned to running and the former sprinter has since run in several marathons! Joni, on the other hand, hung up her spikes after after high school and has remained retired, especially with a pair of hip replacements.
Nevertheless, they had much in common, not only as fellow high school alumni and teammates, but professionally as well, and of course as transgender women. It all made for interesting conversation and a very enjoyable dinner. Needless to say Joni is very proud to know Robyn and is in awe of everything she has accomplished.
One other thing about Robyn that Joni found to be fascinating is the fact that Robyn is the first transgender woman that Joni knew from the past before she became transgender. Joni knows nothing about the background of any of the various transgender women she is friendly with on Flickr, or whom she has met in person, other than what those individuals have revealed about themselves to Joni. There was simply no prior context for any TG woman that Joni knows or has ever met, until Joni met Robyn. Joni has often wondered how many others she has known from high school, college, grammar school, or from her neighborhood growing up, etc., who might have evolved to become transgender women. She has known a number who became gay or lesbians, (including a former high school girlfriend!) but she had never known anyone other than herself who became transgender, until she reconnected with Robyn. It should be noted that there was nothing about Robyn in high school that would have led Joni to suspect that she might one day become transgender or gay for that matter, not that Joni knew anything about transgenders at that time. It's not as if Robyn acted effeminate or anything like that, although Robyn says she knew from an early age that she wanted to be a woman. Like many of us, Robyn was happily married and helped to raise three kids while remaining in the closet for many years . . . untl she wasn't in the closet anymore. . . . .
One other thing about Robyn Gigl - She's very sweet!
For those who are interested in learning more about Robyn, especially other transgender individuals, as well as those who are trying to learn and understand what makes transgenders
tick (and really who shouldn't be?) one can simply Google her name and additional information about her, including a Wikipedia page, will appear. . . . . Robyn is truly an amazing woman and Joni is happy to have had the opportunity to meet up wth her and reconnnect, and she is honored to have Robyn as a friend!
