Revisiting this photo, I see some things that one may not notice during at first glance. There are several people kayaking wearing bright colors. There is also a trail on the right side of the frame with a rather large group of people walking.
It is my hope to go back to Great Falls and see how things look from other trail. I bet there are some great views.

in the bay of pollença, a sanctuary for wind and kite surfers, the monochrome palette speaks in contrasts. here, the wind is an artist, sculpting waves, dictating the dance of the kites above. the northeastern coast of mallorca whispers of adventure with its generous breezes and waves, paired with a flat, long sandy shore offering a canvas of possibilities. the kites, distant yet distinct, are like thoughts set free in the vastness of the sky—black on white, simplicity on complexity. the shoreline, with each gentle caress of the surf, tells stories of encounters between land and sea, of nature's playful moods, and of spirits eager to ride the edge of the wind's melody.

Witness the serene beauty of early mornings in Barceloneta, Barcelona's coastal neighborhood. As the sun rises, the locals and visitors gracefully immerse themselves in the tranquil ambiance. The beach promenade becomes a haven for those seeking an invigorating start to their day. Whether it's a peaceful jog along the shore or a refreshing dip in the calm waters, Barceloneta offers a captivating backdrop for morning activities. In this photo, a paddleboarder embraces the gentle waves, adding a touch of adventure to the tranquil scene – Barceloneta, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
morning light spills onto munich's center, painting paths with a golden brush. amidst this interplay of light and shadow, a cyclist becomes the artist, his two-wheeled steed casting a long, dark echo on the concrete canvas. pedaling through the cool air, his form is hunched in concentration, a solitary figure on the urban stage where the sun directs a daily performance. every turn of the wheel is a silent note in the city's waking symphony, a fleeting connection between the still-slumbering world and the break of day.

I went snowshoeing yesterday afternoon on a cold (aren't they all!) yet beautiful day. The winter sun stays low in the sky, providing a great opportunity to get directional light through the trees. I stopped my little Rokinon down to f/16 to elongate the rays from the sun and capture the great atmosphere.

One of the new winter crazes is the "fat bike". Think of it as a bicycle with something more like dirt bike tires on it. Knobby and grippy, these big tires are ready for the kinds of surfaces that typical bikes just can't handle. It was a little funny to be walking through fairly deep snow and seeing someone coming through the woods towards me on a bike. In deeper snow it looks like a lot of peddling for not much forward moment, but I'm a road cyclist and coming from the other end of the spectrum. It was a fun image with which to show off the new Viltrox 20mm F1.8 - a brand new lens for Sony FE. You can see more images from it here: bit.ly/viltrox20IG or watch my first look video on the lens here: bit.ly/viltrox20FL

My next review will take a deep look at the brand new Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC lens - a lens that is optically amongst the best that I have used. It is incredibly sharp and full of rich contrast wide open, but is a bit of challenge to focus. This second dog related image today is on the opposite end of the spectrum. This Lab was being trained for duck season, and it didn't matter one bit that the water was still littered with ice. He gleefully extended and dove into the water. I watched he and his trainer for a few minutes. Although I used a manual focus only lens here, I simply prefocused on where I predicted the animal to go...and I got a great, sharp picture at f/2.8. A high shutter speed made sure to freeze every drop of water in the air.

I was walking south along the bridle path that circumnavigates the reservoir in Central Park; and the view here is basically south, with the CitiCorp building and various other New York City skyscrapers in the background. The reservoir is enclosed by a fence (presumably to keep people from falling in, or jumping in to swim, or perhaps even attempting to fish), and there's a jogging trail that runs along the fence; so scenes like this are pretty common.
I hadn't taken the sun into account when I took this picture; during this season, it's pretty far south, and for whatever reason, it left the runner in pretty dark shadow. I tweaked it a bit, and hopefully didn't distort the background too badly. I also replaced the grayish-white hazy sky with a bluish gradient fill, using Adobe Photoshop Elements ...

Having seen this Photoshopped color version of this photograph, my instructor in a March 2009 street photography class suggested that I convert it to black-and-white to accentuate the vertical shapes of the fence behind the runner. I did so here on Flickr, using Apple's Aperture program, and with a yellow filter applied to the initial image.
I think the result is interesting, and I'll try to keep an open mind for a while before deciding whether I like it better than the color version. However, if you have strong opinions one way or the other, I'd enjoy hearing it; leave me Flickr-mail or email me at ed at yourdon dot com
always a little war between skaters and cyclists on the coastal bike and sports path from porto pi (west of palma de mallorca to el arenal)
on a brisk winter day at hannover airport, life unfolds in a symphony of movement and pause. one man strides purposefully, phone pressed to his ear, caught in the swift current of travel. nearby, another stands still, savoring a cigarette, a solitary figure against the backdrop of an airport in constant motion. their parallel stories—a vivid portrayal of modern transit—reflect the contrasting rhythms of life's journey.
