All the photos I present were taken in the town of Taormina;
I made photos related to "street photography";
I photographed people who, for the most part, I had never met before, performing their portraits, I thank them for their sympathy and availability;
The volcano Etna, in recent days has shown an intense eruptive activity, I photographed that spectacular eruptions from Taormina;
I tried to capture minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street .. ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “street photography”;
ho fotografato persone che, per la maggior parte, non avevo incontrato prima, eseguendo dei loro ritratti, le ringrazio per la loro simpatia e disponibilità;
il vulcano Etna, nei giorni scorsi ha mostrato una intensa attività eruttiva, anche con intensi fenomeni chiamati "fontane di lava", emissioni a getto continuo perdurate intensamente per molti minuti, di altissime "fontane" di magma incandescente, molto spettacolari e non comuni, le fotografie dell'Etna sono state realizzate da Taormina;
ho provato a cogliere storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

FEC train 103 splits the MP 168 intermediates near City Point on their way south to Fort Pierce, FL.
The new main on the right of the train is complete but it has not been activated yet. This extention runs between the new Cocoa Junction control point (this CP still hasn't been activated as well) to CP Frontenac. Frontenac used to be the south end of the Titusville double track and with Brightline’s project occurring, FEC decided to double track this section between Cocoa Junction and Frontenac as it didn't make sense for a small 2-4 mile stretch of single track to remain between the two CPs. This will likely help reduce bottlenecking and traffic slowdowns while the unit train arrives at City Point each weekday morning. For example, the 103 seen here had to wait until 336 and 915 cleared the main before they were able to proceed south.

In this series of photographs, I returned to the beaches around Taormina, thus concluding a "photographic triad" dedicated to beach photography, encouraged by my life and residence near the sea since I was a boy; I post photographs that speak of serenity, joie de vivre, love in the broadest sense, featuring beachgoers of all ages, whose habits (often) are consolidated by living in sun-kissed latitudes. And yet, I ask myself, every day in the world we witness immense tragedies, caused not by natural disasters (often unpredictable), but by the sinister and nefarious will of man, and so I ask myself if it is right to post images that speak of a reality that almost seems to come "from another planet (sigh!)”, where coexistence, a sense of brotherhood, Love, coexist peacefully among people (in this case... often) in bathing suits :-) .... The next "photographic cycle" will be dedicated to several photographic series that "wait to see the light - again -", having as their theme the traditional religious popular festivals that characterize our island of Sicily.
In questa serie di fotografie, sono ritornato sulle spiagge nei dintorni di Taormina, concludo così una “triade fotografica” dedicata alla beach photography, favorito dal mio vivere ed abitare fin da ragazzino vicino al mare; metto fotografie che parlano di serenità, gioia di vivere, amore in senso lato, che hanno come protagonisti bagnanti di tutte le età, le cui abitudini (spesso) sono consolidate dal vivere a latitudini baciate dal sole. Eppure, mi domando, ogni giorno nel mondo assistiamo a tragedie immani, causate non da catastrofi naturali (spesso imprevedibili), ma provenienti dalla volontà bieca e nefasta dell’uomo, ed allora mi chiedo se sia giusto postare immagini che parlano di una realtà che sembra quasi provenire “da un altro pianeta (sigh!)”, dove la convivenza, il senso di fratellanza, l’Amore, coabitano serenamente tra le persone (in questo caso…spesso) in costume da bagno :-) …. Il prossimo “ciclo di fotografie” sarà dedicato a più serie fotografiche che “aspettano di vedere – nuovamente – la luce”, aventi come tema le feste popolari tradizionali religiose, che caratterizzano la nostra isola di Sicilia.

Sun, Beaches, Sea, Summer, but also ... Friendship, Fun, Loneliness, Nostalgia and ... a great desire to live with the great desire to return to the normal life of always before the pandemic (to always keep in mind that, even if the worse than the Covid-19 pandemic, it now seems to be behind us, the crisis is certainly not to be considered over just because mortality has reduced): I present here, on Flickr, a collection of exhibitions made in this hot summer, with traceable photographs, almost entirely, in the "beach photography" genre. The photographs were all taken in July-August 2022, on the beaches of the east coast of Sicily, and of the Ionian coast of Calabria.

Sole, Spiagge, Mare, Estate, ma anche ...Amicizia, Divertimento, Solitudine, Nostalgia e… tanta voglia di vivere col grande desiderio di ritornare alla vita normale di sempre ante-pandemia (da tenere sempre a mente che, anche se il peggio della pandemia da Covid-19, sembra ormai alle spalle, la crisi non è certo da considerarsi terminata solo perché la mortalità si è ridotta): presento qui, su Flickr, una raccolta di esposizioni realizzate in questa calda estate, con fotografie riconducibili, per la quasi totalità, al genere “beach photography”. Le fotografie sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di Luglio-Agosto 2022, sulle spiagge della costa orientale della Sicilia, e della costa ionica della Calabria.

After the trailing SD70ACe could no longer pump air, and the trailing GE was already bad ordered, the thinking heads in Adams made the decision to attach an SD40N to the front of the daily MALPR. Fortunately, a 0200 departure from Adams ensured that the train would be in daylight down in my neck of the woods. While I didn’t wake up until it was already out of Butler, I was able to make it to the searchlight signal at Bain, WI, on the north side of Kenosha.
Growing up along the Kenosha Sub, I was no stranger to seeing ATS pilots leading the foreign coal trains; but they had unfortunately disappeared when PTC was activated, and that was before I knew what I was doing as a photographer. While this is the Milwaukee Sub (a line that never had ATS), and a manifest, rather than an Oak Creek coal (or a Harvard grain, which I also never got), it was still nice to catch this as a throwback to my childhood.
I only wish I could go back and shoot more of the coal trains.
Another chapter in the ongoing saga to activate "the public realm".

... every two months, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina (Sicily) sends me on a mission for three days (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Saint Anne ... In my spare time, free from commitments of work, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs I present here were all taken in February of this year 2022; I took photos according to the dictates of street photography, I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand and very willing to let themselves be photographed (maybe ... that the islanders are open-minded, eager and used to communicate with strangers ..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work, some fishermen were intent on repairing their nets, a lady showed me one of her beautiful work, a blanket she made with knitting needles , hanging on her balcony (it reminded me of the shawls my grandmother made, also made with hand knitting needles); all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except three, taken in the dark in the port of Milazzo, the port of departure and arrival with hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands.
….ogni due mesi, la mia Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale di Messina, mi manda in missione per tre giorni (da Taormina) all’Ospedale Civile di Lipari, situato in via Sant’Anna …Nei ritagli di tempo, libero dagli impegni di lavoro, mi dedico alla mia passione fotografica; le fotografie che qui presento sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di febbraio di quest’anno 2022; ho realizzato foto secondo i dettami della fotografia di strada (street photography), ho realizzato alcuni ritratti, avendo incontrato sempre persone alla mano e molto disponibili nel lasciarsi fotografare (sarà forse…che la gente isolana è di mentalità aperta, desiderosa ed abituata a comunicare con gli estranei..?!), alcuni ritratti sono stati eseguiti a persone intente nei loro lavori, alcuni pescatori erano intenti a riparare le loro reti, una signora mi ha mostrato un suo bellissimo lavoro, una coperta da lei realizzata coi ferri a maglia, appesa nel suo balcone (mi ricordava gli scialli che realizzava mia nonna, anch’essi realizzati coi ferri a mano); tutte le foto sono state realizzate nella città di Lipari, tranne tre, realizzate col buio nel porto di Milazzo, scalo di partenza e di arrivo con gli aliscafi (ma c’è anche la nave) per le isole Eolie.

. . . I remember the first time I saw a Stealth Bomber at a Chicago Air Show, I was totally blown away!
I got that same feeling this weekend in Traverse City when I watched this male Snowy Owl cruise past me with no sound whatsoever! Again, totally blown away!

401Da-314 hauls EP05-23 through the Staszica settlement in Pruszków, as preparations for the 2024 night of museums.
Recently, while browsing throught Philipp's gallery I came across his picture of the M62-0023 with a prefab settlement in the background. Then I remembered that I have one more pic to show from the transport of EP05-23 for the night of museums, utilising a similar subject.
What I didn't mention in my last posts about my only visit on the WKD is that the unelectrified connecting track between Komorów and Pruszków was proposed to be upgraded to serve the role of a normal commuter rail line.
Pruszów is one of the largest cities in the Warsaw metro area and it has two active passenger rail lines, but neither of them passes through the most densely populated areas. Activating the unelectrified track connecting PKP PLK and WKD would mean that citizens get almost direct access to railways at their doorstep.
However, as always, due to many difficulties, like:
-lack of funding
-level crossing avery couple of meters
-noise pollution
-a fire brigade positioned directly on the railway tracks (soon in one of my next posts)
-lack of diesel units in WKD
-and others
the project was never finalised.

... every two months, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina (Sicily) sends me on a mission for three days (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Saint Anne ... In my spare time, free from commitments of work, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs I present here were all taken in February of this year 2022; I took photos according to the dictates of street photography, I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand and very willing to let themselves be photographed (maybe ... that the islanders are open-minded, eager and used to communicate with strangers ..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work, some fishermen were intent on repairing their nets, a lady showed me one of her beautiful work, a blanket she made with knitting needles , hanging on her balcony (it reminded me of the shawls my grandmother made, also made with hand knitting needles); all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except three, taken in the dark in the port of Milazzo, the port of departure and arrival with hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands.
….ogni due mesi, la mia Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale di Messina, mi manda in missione per tre giorni (da Taormina) all’Ospedale Civile di Lipari, situato in via Sant’Anna …Nei ritagli di tempo, libero dagli impegni di lavoro, mi dedico alla mia passione fotografica; le fotografie che qui presento sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di febbraio di quest’anno 2022; ho realizzato foto secondo i dettami della fotografia di strada (street photography), ho realizzato alcuni ritratti, avendo incontrato sempre persone alla mano e molto disponibili nel lasciarsi fotografare (sarà forse…che la gente isolana è di mentalità aperta, desiderosa ed abituata a comunicare con gli estranei..?!), alcuni ritratti sono stati eseguiti a persone intente nei loro lavori, alcuni pescatori erano intenti a riparare le loro reti, una signora mi ha mostrato un suo bellissimo lavoro, una coperta da lei realizzata coi ferri a maglia, appesa nel suo balcone (mi ricordava gli scialli che realizzava mia nonna, anch’essi realizzati coi ferri a mano); tutte le foto sono state realizzate nella città di Lipari, tranne tre, realizzate col buio nel porto di Milazzo, scalo di partenza e di arrivo con gli aliscafi (ma c’è anche la nave) per le isole Eolie.

The volcano Etna, in recent days has shown an intense eruptive activity, I photographed that spectacular eruptions from Taormina;
I tried to capture minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street .. ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

il vulcano Etna, nei giorni scorsi ha mostrato una intensa attività eruttiva, anche con intensi fenomeni chiamati "fontane di lava", emissioni a getto continuo perdurate intensamente per molti minuti, di altissime "fontane" di magma incandescente, molto spettacolari e non comuni, le fotografie dell'Etna sono state realizzate da Taormina;
ho provato a cogliere storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

I tried to capture the essence of minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...
I met a lady no longer young, who told me that, when she was seven years old, she met Salvatore Giuliano, the bandit (!) on Mount Ziretto (a mountain that is located above Taormina, in the territory of Castelmola), in telling she looked up and pointed at him, it seemed she was seeing him at that precise moment ....! (ah! if only I had had a special camera to capture the images that at that moment were resurfacing in the mind of that very nice lady ....!), she described it and ... she saw it (!): if she remembers it tall, handsome man, boots that reached mid-leg, rifle over his shoulder ....! and then the lady added: of course, I didn't know who that man was, they told me this afterwards ....! I photographed what I believe was a small advertising shoot, thanks to the availability of the photographer and the models (thank you for giving me some of their precious time ..!).

ho cercato di cogliere al volo l’essenza di storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ... ho incontrato una signora non più giovane, che mi ha raccontato che, quando aveva l'età di sette anni, incontrò il bandito Salvatore Giuliano (!) sul monte Ziretto (un monte che si trova sopra Taormina, nel territorio di Castelmola), nel raccontare lei guardava in alto e lo indicava, sembrava lo stesse vedendo in quel preciso momento....! (ah! se solo io avessi avuto una macchina fotografica speciale per catturare le immagini che in quel momento andavano riaffiorando nella mente di quella simpaticissima signora....!), lo descriveva e...lo vedeva (!): se lo ricorda alto, un bell'uomo, gli stivali che arrivavano a metà gamba, il fucile in spalla....! e poi la signora aggiunse: certo, io non sapevo chi fosse quell'uomo, questo me lo hanno detto dopo....! Ho fotografato quello che credo fosse un piccolo shooting pubblicitario, grazie alla disponibilità della fotografa e delle modelle (le ringrazio per avermi concesso un pò del loro prezioso tempo..!).
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

- February 4th: The rain has stopped, and here the procession has taken a sharp detour, leading, with a singular maneuver by the devout archers, to leave the port arches behind and head towards the centre of Catania;
- giorno 04 febbraio: la pioggia è cessata, qui la netta deviazione della processione ha portato, con una singolare manovra dei devoti tiratori, a lasciarsi alle spalle gli archi della marina, ed a dirigersi verso il centro di Catania.

Religious devotion, at times, in Sicily seems to take on the face of women, like that of the two Sicilian saints Agata and Lucia along the Ionian coast of Sicily, or the face of Rosalia, on the opposite side, in Palermo. The lives of Saint Agatha and Saint Lucia are closely linked, even though they never met. Agatha was martyred in 251, Lucia was not yet born, she was born 32 years later. On February 5, 301, she went to Catania to pray at Agatha's tomb to invoke her intercession, hoping to obtain the healing of her mother, who was seriously ill. Agatha appeared to her in a dream, confirmed her mother's healing (her mother was healed), but also confided in her that she would be martyred because of her faith in Christ: Lucia was martyred on December 13, 304, during the persecutions of Diocletian. What has been said as an incipit of the photographic story that I present here, created on the occasion of the celebration that Catania dedicates to its Patron Saint Agatha, described as the most important religious celebration in Catania, also considered the third Catholic religious celebration in the world (first are the “Semana Santa” in Seville, and the “Corpus Domini” in Cuzco in Peru), a ranking that takes into account the huge number of people who participate every year. The celebration of Saint Agatha takes place on several dates, from 3 to 6 February, on 12 February and on 17 August: the February celebration is linked to her martyrdom, the August celebration commemorates the return to Catania of her mortal remains, initially taken to Constantinople as spoils of war by the Byzantine general Maniaces, and remained there for 86 years. The young Agatha lived in the 3rd century, she belonged to a rich patrician family of Catania, since she was young she had embraced the cult of the Christian religion, the governor Quinziano (or Quintiliano) fell in love with her, Agatha to escape him hid in his house in Palermo, Quinziano managed to find out where she was hiding, so he had her taken to Catania, here his attempts to bend Agatha's will and make her give in to his flattery were in vain, after her umpteenth refusal he changed his intentions, accused her of being of the Christian religion, condemned her to death, not without first having led her to martyrdom, he amputated her by tearing off both her breasts, in this way in addition to the torment of physical pain, the psychological one was added, humiliating the girl in her femininity, then he gave her death by dragging her on burning coals, Agata was 20 years old. The feast of Saint Agatha begins on February 3, there is the procession "for the offering of wax", the two eighteenth-century carriages of the senate pulled by horses come out along the streets of the city, "the candlestick" make their appearance; on February 4th the celebration begins with the “Mass of Dawn” which is celebrated in the cathedral, after the reliquary bust of the Saint and the silver casket, they are placed on the “float” (or “fercolo”), to be carried in procession in its “external tour”, the procession begins by crossing the “Porta Uzeda” and thus reaching the arches of the marina, the procession then circumscribes the historic center of the city, going to the places where Agatha’s martyrdom took place; : On February 5th the “Pontifical Mass” is celebrated, on this occasion by lining up in the cathedral, you can go and see the reliquary bust of the Saint, as evening comes, the bust and the casket are placed back on the heavy float for the last procession, which goes along the “internal tour” (or “noble tour”), which crosses the historic center of Catania, a procession preceded by the passage of lit candles carried on the shoulders of devotees (of various weights and sizes, some reach exceptional dimensions and weight, historically these candles illuminated, when electricity did not exist, the passage of the Saint), then the “candlestick” pass, they are gigantic and heavy wooden “candlestick”, in baroque style, painted in gold, each one represents an ancient corporation (butchers, fishmongers, bakers, pork butchers, greengrocers, etc.), finally the float with Saint Agatha passes, the long-awaited moment, with the reliquary bust that it contains inside some parts of her body, the other parts of her body are inside the casket, so, with both on the float, Agatha's entire body can travel the streets of the city of Catania. The float is pulled by hand, by the many devotees who wish to participate spontaneously in this very particular rite, using two large cords more than 200 meters long, to the end of which are connected four handles. The photographs were taken on February 4 and 5, of this year 2026, they are not organized in series taking into account either the year or the days; I made portraits of the devotees, the "citizens" (synonym of "devotees") of Catania towards this young martyr, who has become a symbol of those who oppose violence against women, and protector of women suffering from breast cancer. I captured in some images, the custom of some devotees, to carry with them images of loved ones who passed away too soon (photos placed on candles or printed on the characteristic white habit, called "sacco (bag) ", which is part of the characteristic way of dressing of the devotees). Finally, I conclude with some brief observations on this traditional religious and popular feast, year 2026:
a- This year, during the "outer tour" or "plebeian tour," it rained. I don't recall photographing the Saint Agatha procession in the rain in past years, but the presence of umbrellas was a pleasant surprise for me.
b- Devotees carry candles on their shoulders, sometimes very heavy, weighing 50 kilos or even more than 100-120 kilos. These enormous candles are padded with foam rubber, placed by the devotees themselves, to prevent excessive pain when touching the shoulder carrying them.
c- Devotees carrying very heavy candles, flameless or with a burning candle, rely on the presence of another devotee, who, anticipating the procession, warns those present of the arrival of "a heavy load." This is to avoid accidents along the way, both for those on the road and for the bearer himself. Sometimes, the assistant devotee supports part of the weight of the candle itself.
d- Aware of the risk of people slipping in the streets after the devotees pass by with burning candles, releasing a considerable amount of melted wax onto the ground, on the afternoon of February 5th, before the ritual of lighting the large candles begins, the municipality of Catania sprinkles Catania's main street, Via Etnea, first with water from tankers and then immediately after with sawdust, which, mixing with the water, prevents it from being lifted into the air by the wind (risking irritation to the airways and eyes);
e- As the float of Saint Agatha passes by, countless smartphones are now raised in the air, to take with them, almost every present, a memento of "this beautiful magic." I couldn't resist the temptation to "seize upon" this modern-day custom, also because I'm fascinated by the well-groomed female hands;
f- although I have not respected the temporal presentation of the photographs, I will insert a small comment in the caption, with the day during which it was taken, whether the 4th (during the “plebeian tour” or “external tour”), or if during the 5th (“day of the “internal tour” or “noble tour”).

La devozione religiosa, a volte, in Sicilia sembra assumere il volto delle donne, come quello delle due sante siciliane Agata e Lucia lungo la fascia Ionica della costa sicula, od il volto di Rosalia, sul versante opposto, in quel di Palermo. Le vite di Agata e Lucia sono tra loro legate in maniera strettamente indissolubile, pur non essendosi mai conosciute, Agata morì martirizzata nel 251, Lucia non era ancora nata, nascerà 32 anni dopo, il 5 febbraio del 301 si recherà a Catania a pregare sul sepolcro di Agata per invocare la sua intercessione sperando così di ottenere la guarigione di sua madre, gravemente malata, Agata le appare in sogno, le conferma la guarigione di sua madre (sua madre ebbe la guarigione), ma anche, le confida, che per lei ci sarà il martirio a causa della sua fede in Cristo: Lucia fu martirizzata il 13 dicembre del 304, durante le persecuzioni di Diocleziano. Quanto detto come incipit del racconto fotografico che qui presento, realizzato in occasione della festa che Catania dedica alla sua Santa Patrona Agata, descritta come la più importante festa religiosa di Catania, considerata anche la terza festa religiosa cattolica al mondo (prime la “Semana Santa” di Siviglia, ed il “Corpus Domini” di Cuzco in Perù), graduatoria che tiene conto del grandissimo numero di persone ogni anno vi partecipano. La festa di Santa’Agata si svolge in più date, dal 3 al 6 febbraio, il 12 febbraio ed il 17 agosto: la ricorrenza di febbraio è legata al suo martirio, quella di Agosto rievoca il ritorno a Catania delle sue spoglie mortali, portate inizialmente a Costantinopoli come bottino di guerra dal generale bizantino Maniace, e li rimaste per 86 anni. La giovane Agata visse nel 3° secolo, apparteneva ad una ricca famiglia patrizia di Catania, sin dalla giovane età aveva abbracciato il culto per la religione cristiana, di lei si invaghì il governatore Quinziano (o Quintiliano), Agata per sfuggirgli si nascose in una sua casa a Palermo, Quinziano riuscì a sapere dove si nascondeva, quindi la fece condurre a Catania, qui i suoi tentativi di piegare la volontà di Agata e farla cedere alle sue lusinghe furono vani, all’ennesimo suo rifiuto egli mutò i suoi propositi, la accusò di essere di religione cristiana, la condannò a morte, non senza averla prima condotta al martirio, le amputò strappandole entrambi i seni, in tal modo oltre allo strazio del dolore fisico, si aggiungeva quello psicologico, umiliando la ragazza nella sua femminilità, poi le diede la morte trascinandola sui carboni ardenti, Agata aveva 20 anni. Dopo la sua morte si iniziò a diffondere il culto verso di lei, anche i pagani iniziarono a venerare la sua figura, si hanno notizie sulle sue origini già a partire dal 252, anno successivo alla sua morte: gli abitanti di Catania erano orgogliosi di questa giovane donna che si ribellò al volere del dittatore. La festa per Sant’Agata inizia il 3 febbraio, si ha la processione “per l’offerta della cera”, escono lungo le vie della città le due settecentesche carrozze del senato trainate da cavalli, fanno la loro comparsa “le candelore”; il 4 febbraio la festa inizia con la “Messa dell’Aurora” che si celebra nella cattedrale, dopo il busto reliquiario della Santa e lo scrigno d’argento, vengono messi sulla “vara” (o “fercolo”), per essere portati in processione nel suo “giro esterno” (o “giro plebeo”), la processione inizia attraversando la "Porta Uzeda" e giungendo così agli archi della marina, la processione quindi circoscrive il centro storico della città, recandosi nei luoghi ove avvenne il martirio di Agata; il 5 febbraio si celebra la “Messa Pontificale”, in questa occasione mettendosi in fila nella cattedrale, si può andare a vedere il busto reliquiario della Santa, col sopraggiungere della sera, busto e scrigno, vengono nuovamente messi sulla pesante vara per l’ultima processione, che percorre il “giro interno” (o “giro nobile”), che attraversa il centro storico di Catania, processione preceduta dal passaggio dei ceri accesi portati in spalla dai devoti (di vario peso e dimensioni, alcuni raggiungono dimensioni e peso eccezionali, storicamente questi ceri illuminavano, quando non esisteva l’energia elettrica, il passaggio della Santa), poi passano le “candelore”, sono dei giganteschi e pesanti "candelabri" in legno, in stile barocco, dipinti in oro, portati in spalla, ognuna rappresenta una antica corporazione (macellai, pescivendoli, panettieri, pizzicagnoli, fruttivendoli, ecc.), infine passa la vara con Sant’Agata, il momento tanto atteso, col busto reliquiario che racchiude al suo interno alcune parti del suo corpo, le altre parti del corpo si trovano all’interno dello scrigno, in tal modo, con entrambi sulla vara, tutto il corpo di Agata può percorrere le strade della città di Catania. La vara è trainata a mano con due grosse funi, dai tantissimi devoti che desiderano partecipare spontaneamente a questo rito così particolare, le due grosse funi sono lunghe più di 200 metri (una posta alla destra della vara, l’altra posta alla sua sinistra), al cui capo sono collegate quattro maniglie. Le fotografie sono state realizzate il 4 ed il 5 febbraio di quest’anno 2026, esse non sono organizzate in serie tenendo conto né dell’anno, nè delle giornate; ho realizzato ritratti dei devoti, dei “cittadini” (sinonimo di “devoti”) catanesi (e non) tutti legati “ed innamorati” di questa giovane martire, diventata simbolo di chi si oppone alla violenza sulle donne, e protettrice delle donne ammalate di cancro al seno. Ho colto in alcune immagini, l’usanza di alcuni devoti, di recare con se immagini di persone care scomparse troppo presto (foto messe sui ceri o stampate sul caratteristico saio bianco, chiamato “sacco”, che fa parte del modo caratteristico di vestire dei devoti). Infine, termino, con alcune osservazioni “in pillole” di questa festa tradizionale religiosa e popolare, anno 2026:
a- quest’ anno durante il “giro esterno” o “giro plebeo” è arrivata la pioggia, non ricordo di aver fotografato negli anni passati la processione di Sant’Agata sotto la pioggia, per me la presenza degli ombrelli è stata una piacevole novità;
b- i devoti portano in spalla ceri a volte molto pesanti, di 50 chili ma anche più di 100 – 120 chili, questi enormi ceri presentano delle imbottiture con gomma spugna, posizionate dagli stessi devoti, per evitare che il contatto con la spalla che li regge, diventi eccessivamente doloroso;
c- i devoti (o le devote) che portano in spalla ceri molto pesanti, senza fiamma, o con il cero che arde, si avvalgono della presenza di un altro devoto o devota, che anticipandone il passaggio, avvisa i presenti dell’arrivo “di un carico importante”, questo per evitare incidenti durante il percorso, sia per gli astanti, sia per il portatore stesso; a volte l’aiuto devoto regge parte del peso del cero stesso;
d- consapevole del rischio di scivoloni nelle strade, da parte delle persone, dopo che sono passati i devoti coi ceri che ardono, liberando un notevole quantitativo di cera sciolta per terra, il pomeriggio del 5 febbraio, prima che inizi il rito dell’accensione dei grossi ceri, il comune di Catania cosparge la via principale di Catania, via Etnea, prima con l’acqua delle autobotti, subito dopo con della segatura, che amalgamandosi con l’acqua impedisce alla stessa di venire sollevata in aria col vento (rischiando di irritare le vie aeree e gli occhi);
e- al passaggio della vara di Sant’Agata, oramai innumerevoli sono gli smartphone sollevati in aria, per portare con se, quasi ogni presente, un ricordo di “questa bellissima magia”, non ho saputo sottrarmi alla tentazione di “cogliere al volo” questa consuetudine dei nostri tempi, anche perché affascinato dalle mani femminili, così ben curate;
f- pur non avendo rispettato temporalmente la presentazione delle fotografie, inserirò in didascalia un piccolo commento, col giorno durante il quale è stata colta, se il 4 (durante il “giro plebeo” o “giro esterno”), o se durante il 5 (giorno del “giro interno” o “giro nobile”).

- February 5th: during the popular religious festival, I sense a strong interaction between me, the photographer, and the faithful, who know they're being photographed. It's the "magic" that can be captured and felt in popular festivals like this. A devotee man, carries a candle on his shoulder; later, the candles will be lit, announcing the evening procession of the so-called "noble tour" of the float of Saint Agatha. The faithful, with their lit candles, thus become the protagonists of a Catania "in flames," a city ablaze with indescribable beauty and tradition.
- giorno 05 febbraio: Durante la festa religiosa popolare, percepisco una forte interazione tra me, fotografo, e i fedeli, che sanno di essere fotografati. È la "magia" che si può catturare e percepire in feste popolari come questa. Un devoto porta un cero sulla spalla; più tardi, le candele verranno accese, annunciando la processione serale del cosiddetto "giro nobile" del carro di Sant'Agata. I fedeli, con le loro candele accese, diventano così i protagonisti di una Catania "in fiamme", una città che arde di indescrivibile bellezza e tradizione.

Religious devotion, at times, in Sicily seems to take on the face of women, like that of the two Sicilian saints Agata and Lucia along the Ionian coast of Sicily, or the face of Rosalia, on the opposite side, in Palermo. The lives of Saint Agatha and Saint Lucia are closely linked, even though they never met. Agatha was martyred in 251, Lucia was not yet born, she was born 32 years later. On February 5, 301, she went to Catania to pray at Agatha's tomb to invoke her intercession, hoping to obtain the healing of her mother, who was seriously ill. Agatha appeared to her in a dream, confirmed her mother's healing (her mother was healed), but also confided in her that she would be martyred because of her faith in Christ: Lucia was martyred on December 13, 304, during the persecutions of Diocletian. What has been said as an incipit of the photographic story that I present here, created on the occasion of the celebration that Catania dedicates to its Patron Saint Agatha, described as the most important religious celebration in Catania, also considered the third Catholic religious celebration in the world (first are the “Semana Santa” in Seville, and the “Corpus Domini” in Cuzco in Peru), a ranking that takes into account the huge number of people who participate every year. The celebration of Saint Agatha takes place on several dates, from 3 to 6 February, on 12 February and on 17 August: the February celebration is linked to her martyrdom, the August celebration commemorates the return to Catania of her mortal remains, initially taken to Constantinople as spoils of war by the Byzantine general Maniaces, and remained there for 86 years. The young Agatha lived in the 3rd century, she belonged to a rich patrician family of Catania, since she was young she had embraced the cult of the Christian religion, the governor Quinziano (or Quintiliano) fell in love with her, Agatha to escape him hid in his house in Palermo, Quinziano managed to find out where she was hiding, so he had her taken to Catania, here his attempts to bend Agatha's will and make her give in to his flattery were in vain, after her umpteenth refusal he changed his intentions, accused her of being of the Christian religion, condemned her to death, not without first having led her to martyrdom, he amputated her by tearing off both her breasts, in this way in addition to the torment of physical pain, the psychological one was added, humiliating the girl in her femininity, then he gave her death by dragging her on burning coals, Agata was 20 years old. The float is pulled by hand, by the many devotees who wish to participate spontaneously in this very particular rite, using two large cords more than 200 meters long, to the end of which are connected four handles. The photographs were taken on February 4 and 5, of this year 2026, they are not organized in series taking into account either the year or the days; I made portraits of the devotees, the "citizens" (synonym of "devotees") of Catania towards this young martyr, who has become a symbol of those who oppose violence against women, and protector of women suffering from breast cancer. I captured in some images, the custom of some devotees, to carry with them images of loved ones who passed away too soon (photos placed on candles or printed on the characteristic white habit, called "sacco (bag) ", which is part of the characteristic way of dressing of the devotees). Finally, I conclude with some brief observations on this traditional religious and popular feast, year 2026:
a- This year, during the "outer tour" or "plebeian tour," it rained. I don't recall photographing the Saint Agatha procession in the rain in past years, but the presence of umbrellas was a pleasant surprise for me.
b- Devotees carry candles on their shoulders, sometimes very heavy, weighing 50 kilos or even more than 100-120 kilos. These enormous candles are padded with foam rubber, placed by the devotees themselves, to prevent excessive pain when touching the shoulder carrying them.
c- Devotees carrying very heavy candles, flameless or with a burning candle, rely on the presence of another devotee, who, anticipating the procession, warns those present of the arrival of "a heavy load." This is to avoid accidents along the way, both for those on the road and for the bearer himself. Sometimes, the assistant devotee supports part of the weight of the candle itself.
d- Aware of the risk of people slipping in the streets after the devotees pass by with burning candles, releasing a considerable amount of melted wax onto the ground, on the afternoon of February 5th, before the ritual of lighting the large candles begins, the municipality of Catania sprinkles Catania's main street, Via Etnea, first with water from tankers and then immediately after with sawdust, which, mixing with the water, prevents it from being lifted into the air by the wind (risking irritation to the airways and eyes);
e- As the float of Saint Agatha passes by, countless smartphones are now raised in the air, to take with them, almost every present, a memento of "this beautiful magic." I couldn't resist the temptation to "seize upon" this modern-day custom, also because I'm fascinated by the well-groomed female hands;
f- although I have not respected the temporal presentation of the photographs, I will insert a small comment in the caption, with the day during which it was taken, whether the 4th (during the “plebeian tour” or “external tour”), or if during the 5th (“day of the “internal tour” or “noble tour”).

La devozione religiosa, a volte, in Sicilia sembra assumere il volto delle donne, come quello delle due sante siciliane Agata e Lucia lungo la fascia Ionica della costa sicula, od il volto di Rosalia, sul versante opposto, in quel di Palermo. Le vite di Agata e Lucia sono tra loro legate in maniera strettamente indissolubile, pur non essendosi mai conosciute, Agata morì martirizzata nel 251, Lucia non era ancora nata, nascerà 32 anni dopo, il 5 febbraio del 301 si recherà a Catania a pregare sul sepolcro di Agata per invocare la sua intercessione sperando così di ottenere la guarigione di sua madre, gravemente malata, Agata le appare in sogno, le conferma la guarigione di sua madre (sua madre ebbe la guarigione), ma anche, le confida, che per lei ci sarà il martirio a causa della sua fede in Cristo: Lucia fu martirizzata il 13 dicembre del 304, durante le persecuzioni di Diocleziano. Quanto detto come incipit del racconto fotografico che qui presento, realizzato in occasione della festa che Catania dedica alla sua Santa Patrona Agata, descritta come la più importante festa religiosa di Catania, considerata anche la terza festa religiosa cattolica al mondo (prime la “Semana Santa” di Siviglia, ed il “Corpus Domini” di Cuzco in Perù), graduatoria che tiene conto del grandissimo numero di persone ogni anno vi partecipano. La festa di Santa’Agata si svolge in più date, dal 3 al 6 febbraio, il 12 febbraio ed il 17 agosto: la ricorrenza di febbraio è legata al suo martirio, quella di Agosto rievoca il ritorno a Catania delle sue spoglie mortali, portate inizialmente a Costantinopoli come bottino di guerra dal generale bizantino Maniace, e li rimaste per 86 anni. La giovane Agata visse nel 3° secolo, apparteneva ad una ricca famiglia patrizia di Catania, sin dalla giovane età aveva abbracciato il culto per la religione cristiana, di lei si invaghì il governatore Quinziano (o Quintiliano), Agata per sfuggirgli si nascose in una sua casa a Palermo, Quinziano riuscì a sapere dove si nascondeva, quindi la fece condurre a Catania, qui i suoi tentativi di piegare la volontà di Agata e farla cedere alle sue lusinghe furono vani, all’ennesimo suo rifiuto egli mutò i suoi propositi, la accusò di essere di religione cristiana, la condannò a morte, non senza averla prima condotta al martirio, le amputò strappandole entrambi i seni, in tal modo oltre allo strazio del dolore fisico, si aggiungeva quello psicologico, umiliando la ragazza nella sua femminilità, poi le diede la morte trascinandola sui carboni ardenti, Agata aveva 20 anni. Dopo la sua morte si iniziò a diffondere il culto verso di lei, anche i pagani iniziarono a venerare la sua figura, si hanno notizie sulle sue origini già a partire dal 252, anno successivo alla sua morte: gli abitanti di Catania erano orgogliosi di questa giovane donna che si ribellò al volere del dittatore. The late Pope Francis left us a memorable phrase, referring to the tragic events of our current history, he said "build bridges, not walls", and almost paraphrasing Pope Francis, here in Sicily we tear down walls, let me explain... there is a traditional religious festival, during which the wall of a house, always the same wall, is torn down, to then be built again in anticipation of the celebration that will be held in the new year. But it is not so much the wall itself, even more characteristic is the way in which this wall is broken down: it is struck over and over again with the arms of the float, those used by the bearers to hold the float, on which sits the statue of Saint James, an incredible tradition whose origins are not unanimous. Many, many years ago, I was perhaps 20 years old, walking with a few friends one evening along Corso Umberto in Taormina, I learned from one of them about this incredible tradition. I remember it as if it were yesterday. He said, “In Sicily, there is a celebration in which, during the procession, the float with the Saint, loaded with provola (cheeses), is used like a battering ram to break down the wall of a house, which is then rebuilt (the battering ram, a medieval assault weapon, used to break down gates and castle walls).” This year, I was able to witness (and photograph) this very particular and unique tradition, which is celebrated every year on July 26th in the town of Capizzi (Messina), a celebration that commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint James from his sanctuary. As mentioned, the most characteristic moment of the celebration is the "rite of miracles": the float with Saint James on it is violently hurled against the wall of a house adjacent to the church of Sant'Antonio, and each impact against this wall is interpreted as "a miracle of Saint James". The number of blows needed to overcome the wall is interpreted sometimes positively (if the blows are even), sometimes negatively (if the blows are odd). The "Miracles of St. James" do not have a certain origin, some think it could originate in ancient times from the destruction of a small pagan temple, or a synagogue, someone else instead traces this tradition as a form of revenge of the inhabitants of Capizzi (Capitini), this because the relics of the Saint were stolen from Capizzi to be kept in the city of Messina, by the Spanish nobleman Sancho de Heredia, in obedience in 1435 towards Alfonso V of Aragon, nicknamed "the Magnanimous" (he was king of Aragon, Valencia, Sardinia, Majorca, Sicily, titular king of Jerusalem, Corsica and Hungary, he was count of Barcelona and of the Catalan counties, and from 1442 he would also become king of Naples), therefore the demolition of the wall would be a form of revenge towards what was perhaps the house of the nobleman Sancho de Heredia, finally someone else traces this tradition to a legendary event, which recalls the defeat of a handful of Saracens, who They had barricaded themselves in that place. Il compianto papa Francesco ci ha lasciato una memorabile frase, in riferimento alle tragiche vicende della nostra attuale storia, ha detto “costruite ponti, non muri”, e quasi parafrasando Papa Francesco, qui da noi in Sicilia i muri li abbattiamo, mi spiego meglio ….c’è una festa tradizionale religiosa, durante la quale il muro di una casa, sempre lo stesso muro, viene abbattuto, per poi venire costruito in attesa della festa che si terrà il nuovo anno, ma non è tanto il muro in se, ancor più caratteristico è il modo in cui questo muro viene sfondato: esso viene colpito più, e più volte con i bracci del fercolo, quelli che servono ai portatori per reggere la vara, sul quale siede la statua di San Giacomo, una incredibile tradizione sulle cui origini non c’è unanimità di pensiero. Io tanti, tanti anni fa, forse avevo 20 anni, passeggiando con pochi amici di sera sul Corso Umberto di Taormina, venni a sapere da uno di questi, di questa tradizione che ha dell’incredibile, lo ricordo come fosse ieri, disse “in Sicilia c’è una festa nella quale durante la processione, la vara con il Santo, carica di provole (formaggi) viene utilizzata come fosse un’ariete per sfondare il muro di una casa, che poi verrà ricostruito (l’ariete, arma medioevale d’assalto, utilizzata per sfondare portoni e muri dei castelli),”. Quest’anno, ho potuto assistere (e fotografare) questa tradizione così particolare ed unica, che si celebra ogni anno il 26 luglio nel paese di Capizzi (Messina), festa che commemora il trasferimento delle reliquie di San Giacomo dal suo Santuario, e, come anticipato, il momento più caratteristico della festa è il “rito dei miracoli”, la vara con sopra San Giacomo viene violentemente scagliata contro il muro di una una casa adiacente la chiesa di Sant'Antonio, ed ogni urto contro questo muro viene inteso come “un miracolo di San Giacomo”, il numero dei colpi necessari per avere la meglio sul muro viene interpretato ora in maniera positiva (se i colpi sono pari), ora in maniera negativa (se i colpi sono dispari). I “Miracoli di San Giacomo” non hanno una origine certa, qualcuno pensa possa originare anticamente dalla distruzione di un piccolo tempio pagano, od una sinagoga, qualcun altro invece fa risalire questa tradizione come una forma di rivalsa degli abitanti di Capizzi (Capitini), questo perché le reliquie del Santo furono sottratte a Capizzi per essere custodite nella città di Messina, da parte del nobile spagnolo Sancho de Heredia, in obbedienza nel 1435 verso Alfonso V d'Aragona, soprannominato "il Magnanimo" (era re di Aragona, Valencia, Sardegna, Maiorca, Sicilia, re titolare di Gerusalemme, Corsica e Ungheria, era conte di Barcellona e delle contee catalane, e dal 1442 sarebbe diventato anche re di Napoli), quindi l’abbattimento del muro sarebbe una forma di vendetta verso quella forse era la casa del nobile Sancho de Heredia, infine qualcun altro fa risalire questa tradizione ad un evento leggendario, che ricorda la sconfitta di un manipolo di saraceni, che si erano asserragliati in quel luogo. Attualmente a Capizzi, nel Santuario di San Giacomo Maggiore, si trova la più antica reliquia di San Giacomo Apostolo Maggiore che abbiamo in Sicilia, si tratta di un dito del Santo. Un altro aspetto caratteristico della festa, è la presenza di numerose provole messe sul tetto della vara, queste sono offerte dalla popolazione a San Giacomo, la presenza di questi tipici formaggi è indicativa del tipo di economia che c’è a Capizzi, principalmente legata all'agricoltura e alla pastorizia, con una importante produzione casearia e di carne suina, in particolare quella del maiale nero dei Nebrodi, con formaggi tipici, come la provola capitina e il maiorchino. Mi dicevano alcuni abitanti che a volte la donazione delle provole, anche di grosse dimensioni, diviene così abbondante, che la vara finisce con acquisire un peso eccezionale, mettendo a dura prova la capacità di reggere tutto quel peso da parte dei portatori.

All the photos I present were taken in towns and on the beaches near Taormina (Sicily-Italy); I made photos related to "street photography and beach photography"; I made some photo-portraits of people I didn't know, I thank them very much for their sympathy and their availability; I tried to capture the essence of minimal photographic stories, collected walking along the street or on the beaches ... in search of fleeting moments ...
My thoughts, like a huge multitude of his admirers, go to the great Italian singer-songwriter, composer, musician, enlightened thinker and film director Franco Battiato, who recently passed away at the age of 76: He was born in Riposto (at the time called Ionia, in Sicily) near the town where I live (Taormina), and He lived not far away, on the slopes of Etna, in the village of Milo.
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently by means of a post -production. ---------------------------------------------------------
Tutte le foto che presento sono state realizzate in paesi e sulle spiagge vicini Taormina (Sicilia-Italia); ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “street photography ed alla beach photography”; ho realizzato dei foto-ritratti di persone che non conoscevo, le ringrazio veramente tanto per la loro simpatia e la loro disponibilità; ho cercato di cogliere al volo l’essenza di storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada o sulle spiagge... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Il mio pensiero, al pari di una enorme moltitudine di suoi estimatori daltronde, va al grandissimo cantautore, compositore, musicista, pensatore illuminato e regista italiano Franco Battiato, scomparso di recente all'età di 76 anni: egli nacque a Riposto (all'epoca chiamata Ionia) vicino al paese nel quale vivo (Taormina), ed abitava non molto distante, alle pendici dell'Etna, nel paesino di Milo.
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.---------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys! Haven't posted in awhile.. been very busy with school, homework, youth group, and some "college" related stuff. :P
I know I nearly always say this, but I have lots of projects I'm working on that should be completed soon. These figs aren't anything that special, just wanted to upload them for the sake of uploading them before I take them apart. Nice to upload again too :)

A contemporary history of Sicily (with an appendix story).
With the story I am posting, with words and photographs, I try to describe the truly singular figure of a contemporary "Sicilian", whom I have known personally, his name is Antonio Presti. As a young man he studied construction engineering at the University of Palermo, studies which he then abandoned due to the death of his father, the paternal construction company needed a guide, Antonio thus took on the responsibility of managing the company, but at the age of 29 years old, he perceives the urgency of having to change his life path, throwing himself body and soul into what he feels to be his vocation, art and ethics, which will be his two poles of reference from this moment on. , towards which he will always direct his choices. In memory of his father, he creates an artistic path that represents the continuity between life and death, idealizing the preservation of memory through contemporary art: this is how the sculptural park of Fiumara d 'Arte was born.
The works are carried out along a path that involves many municipalities, Antonio Presti obtains the consent of mayors and administrators, despite this he is forced to undergo a criminal trial for illegal building, from which he is acquitted after 23 years, as the Cassation recognizes " the exceptional nature of the case ", thus saving the Works from demolition. In Pettineo (one of the municipalities of "Fiumara") organizes the event "a kilometer of canvas", it is an impromptu painting event with hundreds of artists, who create their works on a very long canvas that crosses the streets of the town, therefore each single work is then cut, all of these are finally given to the inhabitants, in whose houses they are thus exhibited, becoming the "Domestic Museum" (the event gets numerous replicas in various centers of Sicily). In 1990 he bought a 40-room hotel in Castel di Tusa: each room is then furnished by an artist, the aim is that art is fully experienced with all five senses, not just with the satisfaction of the sight. In 2002 "Third eye - Meridians of Light" comes to life, a project that involves important photographers and directors from around the world who are asked to "photograph the soul of the Librino district, that is, the people" (the "Librino" is a district of outskirts of Catania). These that I have mentioned are just some of the numerous initiatives undertaken by Antonio Presti around Sicily, I could mention many others, all interesting and singular, but among these I would like to mention two of his "ideas" (also because in one of these , despite myself, I was involved); the first conception involves the hospital of Taormina, which has become, thanks to his initiative, a real "art installation" that welcomes "with amazement and admiration", before one can reach the ward, the various patients, relatives, doctors, nurses, the various figures that gravitate within a hospital, in fact the walls of the various corridors located on the various floors that lead to the wards, have been covered with gigantic canvases, on which the children of various schools and different age groups worked, to use a term very dear to Presti, leaving on them "a sign of beauty and hope"; the second initiative of Antonio Presti takes the name of "Against Exodus”, which involved seven Sicilian municipalities, whose streets were covered with giant photographic prints accompanied by the verses of San Francesco, whose goal is to focus attention on the risk of abandonment of the territory due to possible mass migration, and it is here that I mention that "appendix story" of the title, and which sees me involved. In July 2019 I participate in the photo contest "Motta Camastra, his identity" (I learn that the commission that will examine the various participating photographs will be composed of five experts, including Antonio Presti, and the famous photographic critic Giuseppe Pappalardo), in short, two of my photographs arrive first ex aequo, but my amazement is great when I see that both will be set as blow-ups (the only ones in black and white) together with the other blow-ups of "Against Exodus", placed on a large wall located at the entrance to the picturesque village of Motta Camastra. Of the photographs that I post, they were in part taken on the day "of the unveiling" of the blow-ups of the installation by Motta Camastra "Against Exodus”, guest of honor Antonio Presti, which took place on October 05, 2019; the other Gigantographies that I publish are those found in the Sicilian towns of Castiglione di Sicilia and Gaggi; the photos of the painted canvases, hung on the walls, were taken in the hospital of Taormina. I have inserted two photos of the feast of San Biagio in Motta Camastra of 03/02/2020, with the kids who throw the launch of the Saint as they pass in front of the blow-up that was made on the same occasion, only a few years earlier.

Una storia contemporanea di Sicilia (con racconto d’appendice).
Col racconto che sto postando, con parole e fotografie, tento di descrivere la figura davvero singolare di un “siciliano” contemporaneo, che ho conosciuto personalmente, il suo nome è Antonio Presti. Da giovane egli studia ingegneria edile all’Università di Palermo, studi che poi abbandona a causa della scomparsa del padre, l’azienda edile paterna ha bisogno di una guida, Antonio si carica così della responsabilità di gestire l’azienda, però all’età di 29 anni matura percepisce l’urgenza di dover cambiare percorso di vita, gettandosi anima e corpo in quella che lui sente essere la sua vocazione, l’arte e l’etica, che saranno da questo momento in poi i suoi due poli di riferimento, verso i quali indirizzerà sempre le sue scelte. In ricordo del padre, realizza un percorso artistico che rappresenti la continuità tra la vita e la morte, idealizzando la conservazione della memoria attraverso l’arte contemporanea: nasce così il Parco scultoreo di Fiumara d’Arte.
Le Opere vengono realizzate lungo un percorso che coinvolge molti comuni, Antonio Presti ottiene il consenso di sindaci ed amministratori, nonostante ciò è costretto a subire un processo penale per abusivismo edilizio, dal quale viene prosciolto dopo 23 anni, in quanto la Cassazione ne riconosce “l’eccezionalità del caso”, salvando così le Opere dalla demolizione. A Pettineo (uno dei comuni della “Fiumara”) organizza la manifestazione “un chilometro di tela”, è una manifestazione estemporanea di pittura con centinaia di artisti, che realizzano le loro opere su di una lunghissima tela che attraversa le strade del paese, quindi ogni singola opera viene poi tagliata, tutte queste infine vengono regalate agli abitanti, nelle cui case vengono così esposte, divenendo “Museo Domestico” (la manifestazione ottiene numerose repliche in vari centri della Sicilia). Nel 1990 acquista a Castel di Tusa un albergo di 40 stanze: ogni stanza viene quindi arredata da un artista, lo scopo è quello che l’arte sia vissuta appieno con tutti i cinque sensi, non solo con l’appagamento della vista. Nel 2002 prende vita “Terzocchio-Meridiani di Luce”, un progetto che vede coinvolti importanti fotografi e registi del mondo ai quali si chiede di “fotografare l’anima del quartiere Librino, cioè le persone” (il “Librino” è un quartiere della periferia di Catania). Queste che ho menzionato sono solo alcune delle numerose iniziative intraprese da Antonio Presti in giro per la Sicilia, ne potrei citare tantissime altre, tutte interessanti e singolari, ma tra queste ci tengo a menzionare due sue “ideazioni” (anche perché in una di queste, sono stato mio malgrado, coinvolto); la prima ideazione vede coinvolto l’ospedale di Taormina, il quale è diventato, grazie alla sua iniziativa, una vera e propria “installazione d’arte” che accoglie “con stupore ed ammirazione”, prima che si possa giungere in reparto, i vari pazienti, parenti, medici, infermieri, le varie figure che gravitano in seno ad un ospedale, infatti le pareti dei vari corridoi situati sui vari piani che conducono ai reparti, sono stati tappezzati con gigantesche tele, sulle quali i ragazzi di varie scuole e di diverse fasce d’età, hanno lavorato, per usare un termine molto caro a Presti, lasciando su di esse “un segno di bellezza e di speranza”; la seconda iniziativa di Antonio Presti prende il nome di “Controesodo”, che ha coinvolto sette comuni siciliani, le cui vie sono state tappezzate da giganti stampe fotografiche accompagnate dai versi di San Francesco, il cui obiettivo è focalizzare l’attenzione sul rischio dell’abbandono del territorio a causa della possibile migrazione di massa, ed è qui che accenno a quel “racconto d’appendice” del titolo, e che mi vede coinvolto. Nel luglio 2019 partecipo al concorso fotografico “Motta Camastra, la sua identità” (vengo a sapere che la commissione che esaminerà le varie fotografie partecipanti, sarà composta da cinque esperti, tra questi Antonio Presti, ed il famoso critico fotografico Giuseppe Pappalardo), in breve, due mie fotografie arrivano prime ex aequo, ma il mio stupore è grande quando vedo che entrambe verranno incastonate come gigantografie (le uniche in bianco e nero) insieme alle altre gigantografie di “Controesodo”, poste su di una grande parete situata all’ingresso del pittoresco paesino di Motta Camastra. Delle fotografie che posto, in parte sono state realizzate il giorno “della svelata” delle gigantografie dell’installazione di Motta Camastra “Controesodo”, ospite d’onore Antonio Presti, avvenuta il 05 ottobre, 2019; le altre Gigantografie che pubblico, sono quelle che si trovano nei paesi siciliani di Castiglione di Sicilia, e di Gaggi; le foto delle tele dipinte, appese alle pareti, sono state realizzate nel presidio ospedaliero di Taormina. Ho inserito due foto della festa di San Biagio di Motta Camastra del 03/02/2020, coi ragazzini che tirano la vara del Santo mentre passano davanti la gigantografia che fu fatta nella stessa occasione, solo qualche anno prima.
It works! The robotic start-up commands initiated correctly, all systems are online and a new robot is born! Nova Team is happy to introduce EX-K1T, the very first of the A.R.C. Bots (Augmented, Robotic, Companions). The A.R.C. Bots will be a new line of robots for the station, each built on the same A.I. and physical frameworks. Each bot is augmented to handle specific tasks and each with their own unique personality subroutines. They are highly intelligent and able to adapt to any situation. With their unique personalities it is hoped that they will more easily and naturally work with their human counterparts. All the while having one program to supersede all the rest; the preservation of human life.
EX-K1T or K1T if you prefer is an exploration bot. His primary function will be to assist Nova Team on their expeditions into deep space. More in the future on each type of A.R.C. Bot and what their primary job and features will be.

So this is what I've been working up to! Finally! ;-) I hope you all like the A.R.C. Bots. I'm pretty happy how they turned out. In my next few photos, I'll show off the different models of bots. Both as action shots as well in a cleaner way so you can see what I used to put them together in a LEGO sense. I had a clear goal when I starting building them, I wanted them to be simple builds, each having the same basic structure, while each having their own unique look and personality and for them to be not too much larger than minifigures. I’m pretty surprised the amount of poseability I got out of these guys despite their small scale, which is super helpful for my photography!
For those who are interested, unfortunately I am unable to sell the Nova Team minifigures or designs due to the use of the "Classic Space" logo which is owned and trademarked by The LEGO Group. My custom designed figures and use of the official "Classic Space" logo is for personal use only in my MOCs and photography. By the same token, I will not give away the design files and source material either. Thank you for understanding! Trust me, if I could legally sell these, I would.
