Stephen Young had a hearing disability that western medicine had pretty much given up on. They gave him a very strong hearing aid, and couldn't figure out why or how his hearing had suddenly gone down to 10% in one ear. He got some acupuncture treatments in Xian, China to treat his hearing. I was very much in support of this treatment, and strongly wanted to see results. After a few weeks of treatments, he had an experience while lifting weights of hearing a (phantom) loud noise with his bad ear. (He had his hearing aid out.) This was very encouraging to me, the treatments must be doing something! He also felt warm tingling in his ear area from time to time, not related to his treatment schedule. Shortly after the phantom noise experience, we left this particular city, and I urged him to continue with acupuncture treatments, but he did not for the remainder of the trip, and I'm not sure if he continued treatment after going home, I assume not. Very disappointing! 1999.

Residents, staff and volunteers enjoyed a summer fair at Broadway Gardens. Manager Jenny Jackson left has a massage from Marcia Thomas. Marcia will be introducing holistic massage, Reiki, Tibetan accupuncture and crystal healing to the Scheme.
Of course the question on everyone's mind after standing around freezing their gentials off in Union Square for an hour was "Hey where can we go get drunk?" For the subjects in this photo the answer was the Crocodile Lounge over there on 14th Street. Free pizza!
The best part was when unsuspecting pants-wearers walked into the bar and dozens of raving lunatics would start screaming at the top of their lungs "TAKE THEM OFF!! TAKE THEM OFF!!" It made me proud to be a New Yorker, and yes, most of the time the people took their pants off. Those that didn't received a complimentary accupuncture session next to the pizza oven.
