Our flight from Hervey Bay Airport departed at 8am.
Our plane was a De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter.
Our 9am arrival gave us the rest of the day on the island as well as an overnight stay in one of the comfortable cabins.
We were surprised at how many flights land on the 4km round coral cay island, Flights go from Hervey Bay, the Gold Coast as well as from Bundaberg.
Like a lot of people who stay just one night on the island we departed the island at 4pm the next day, flying back to Hervey Bay Airport, in thick cloud the entire journey.
We then drove to Bargara to our overnight accommodation.
Lady Elliot Island is well worth visiting and 2 days one night is adequate to see most of what the island has to offer however if you are into scuba or snorkelling then you might need a few more days.
We were fortunate that while we did endure some drizzling, and at times some brief moderate rain, we nevertheless were not too inconvenienced by the inclement weather, though obviously bright sunshine would have been more desirable.
