On the night of July 3, 2022 I sat in my daughters front yard that overlooks the city of Dubuque, Iowa. The fireworks are shot over the Mississippi River at quite a distance from where we were watching them being fired up into the night sky. I used many settings on my camera, sports, landscape, creative auto. etc. I got some amazing images that make many of the fireworks look abstract and not your usual fireworks display. My second entry into the 2020 Summer Joust! This time for the tri-color category. The three colors used here are light bluish gray, transparent red and transparent yellow. (That includes the flex tubing in the vaulted ceiling.)
My family took a trip to France last summer where we averaged one cathedral visit a day – around 15 different churches in all – and I've wanted to recreate some of the gothic architecture and of course the fantastic effect of the stained glass windows ever since. Playing with transparent parts and back-lighting struck me as the perfect way to capitalize on the color limitation of this category, so this was the first build I started on. For the sake of realism, the windows do in fact depict the Easter story, albeit in a very abstracted form by necessity.
Next up: collab entries! Which may or may not still be under construction, so wish me luck...

Once a week I try to get a drive in to different places hoping to come across something of interest for a photo shoot. On this particular day the drive was up by Potosi to Glen Haven, Wisconsin where I stumbled upon what I call a Tractor Graveyard. These tractors are dead so to speak but are waiting for new life to be breathed into them such as for parts for other tractors, upcycling, refurbishing, or recycling. What a great way to preserve our environment and to keep things out of the landfills. I never know what I'm going to find on these outings. I was taking a shot of the swan when it moved it's head and the one behind it swan into shot. Sometimes things just don't go as planned but I still like the result
