Looking up in Paris's Montparnasse station, I found this striking pattern where the blue sky creates geometric shapes through the glass ceiling. The linear structure frames the natural light, turning architectural functionality into abstract composition.
You would like to have that on your wall or use it on your website?

I struggled with editing this image. I love the composition, but getting the dark and light not too dark and not too light was a challenge; and I still don’t think I’ve got it right. The light parts just aren’t light enough, and I’ve always struggled with getting monochrome images to have nice lighter parts of the image without having just a texture-less white space. Each photograph teaches us a lesson and often that lesson is “you have a lot more to learn.”

The horizontal lines on the wall and the design of the blue bicycle suggest speed and motion, also happily accentuated by the bright colors of the eye-catching façade of an entrance area in Amsterdam. The vehicle however is standing still and a closer look will even show it is broken.
This work will be exhibited and be exclusively available via my gallery in Tel Aviv. More information will follow.

A primary school (De Ark in Almere) seen frontally from all sides around, was the basic material for this composition. I loved the variation of red, yellow and orange planes. The height of the original building is only one level but I wanted to see the windows and panels to become part of a large scale tapestry, which I worked out in my studio. In this way the interplay of windows, colour panels and lines really becomes more abstract and exciting, even though the reality of the school itself is still there.
Design of the renovated facade was done by Karin Penning Architectuur.

An iconic apartment building in Almere (my city of residence), designed by architect René van Zuuk. Working at my commission “Ritme in de Polder” [rhythm in the polder] I photographed the building as seen from the water. The building has a surface covered with aluminium plates placed with scale-like overlaps that together depict a wavy surface. I was excited being able to capture its reflection in the waves beneath. To make the composition more clear I took the liberty to remove the parking lot that is located beneath the building, just above the water surface.
This image is part of my current exhibition in Almere, The Netherlands, open until 9 April 2023. More information:

The Spacebox is a polyester unit, produced to solve the housing problem for students and in these days also for refugees. The design was created by Mart de Jong. Its colour scheme and combination (normally just three stories high), inspired me to create this abstract composition. On the other hand the window details reveal the presence of inhabitants.
It is a preview of my upcoming solo exhibition in Almere.
Last year I received a commission from the Stadsarchief (city archive) of Almere. The challenge was to visualise the architecture of this town in my particular way.
The result is a photo series of 24 works, that will be exhibited in the large entrance area of the city archive. The exhibition will run from 6 June until 3 Oktober 2019.
