The Sand Martin (Riparia riparia) is a migratory passerine bird in the swallow family. It has a wide range in summer, embracing practically the whole of Europe and the Mediterranean countries, part of northern Asia and also North America. It winters in eastern and southern Africa, South America and South Asia. It is known as Bank Swallow in North America, and as Collared Sand Martin in South Asia, and sometimes as European Sand Martin.
Its brown back, white throat, small size and quick jerky flight separate it at once from similar swallows, such as the House Martin (Delichon urbicum) in Europe. (wikipedia)
This was taken at the base of a 50-foot sand dune face along the beach near Cahore, Co. Wexford. I am used to seeing Sand Martin's nesting in concrete constructions near where I live in Dublin. It was a very pleasant change to see them in their natural habitat.
Tried pairing up an old analogue era lens with my new Sony a9II with an adaptor. The lens used was a capless freebie from friend, they only retail for $19. A Bushnell 28mm 2.8, apparently it was actually made by Tokina because Bushnell didn't ever make camera lenses. When I tried to look it up Google spat out mostly guns guns guns, with some digging I found info about this old lens. All in all I like the way the old lens plays with the new ultra digital, I liked having to manually focus, and I'll keep playing with this notion. Shoutout to @AndyCossins and @JRPhotographyBC for inspiring me to try this!

The Common Buzzard/Clamhán (Buteo buteo) is a medium sized raptor (bird of prey) with broad wings, a compact body, short neck and medium-length tail. Has a short hooked bill suitable for eating meat. Often seen sitting on fences and telegraph posts or soaring high in the sky, where it shows a fan shaped tail and spread outer wing feathers. Will also hang in the wind on updrafts. Flies with quick, stiff wing beats. Buzzards have very variable plumages from very dark to very light. Much of the plumage is barred. Adults are brown on the upperparts, body and underwing coverts and show a broad black band on the end of the tail and wing feathers. The rest of the underwings are whitish and finely barred. Variation in adult plumage is displayed on both the upper and under sides and some birds can be extremely pale, especially in the tail and upperwing coverts. Juvenile birds are similar to adults and also display a range of light and dark plumage variation; juveniles lack black bands on the ends of their tails and wings and some paler birds show prominent dark markings on the underwing at the carpal (wing joint).
Until quite recently breeding birds were to be found mainly in the north and east of country, north of a line from Sligo to Wexford. Now they are widespread. The stronghold of the species is in Co. Donegal, Co. Monaghan and Co. Louth. Birds nest in trees and sometimes on cliffs, usually with access to open land including farmland, moorland and wetland. The species was absent in Ireland from the late nineteenth century until 1933, when a pair bred in Antrim. The species has spread slowly down from the north through the twentieth century. (BirdWatch Ireland)
The Common Buzzard is a bogey species for me. I have yet to get a decent photograph of one! I had tried to find a gap in a hedge overlooking a road somewhere in Co. Wexford. I am still waiting for that photograph!

The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. The Red Admiral has a 45–50 mm (1.8–2.0 in) wing span. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn.
This medium-sized butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red, and black wing pattern. More specifically, the dark wings possess orange bands that cross the fore wings and on the outer edge of the hind wings; white spots on the dorsal fore wings near the front margin; reddish bars on dorsal surface of all four wings. The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia and overripe fruit.
In northern Europe, it is one of the last butterflies to be seen before winter sets in, often feeding on the flowers of ivy on sunny days. The Red Admiral is also known to hibernate,[3] re-emerging individuals showing prominently darker colourings than first brood subjects. The butterfly also flies on sunny winter days, especially in southern Europe. (wikipedia)
I just love Red Admiral butterflies. They are a real sign of summer for me. Taken at the East Coast Nature Reserve, Co, Wicklow.

The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a small white heron. Until the 1950s, the Little Egret was restricted to southern Europe. Over the next few decades it became increasingly common in western France and later on the north coast. It bred in the Netherlands in 1979 with further breeding in the 1990s.
In Ireland, the species bred for the first time in 1997 at a site in County Cork.
This youngster, born this calendar year, was giving a lot of the adult egrets some grief at Broadmeadows Estuary, Dublin.
