Odd that we would have a hot water heater that was significantly older than our house... last night it decided that it didn't want to heat water anymore, and so this is its replacement.
A prototype heater barrel based on Nopheads awesome work. I haven't tested it out yet, but it seems reliable. I'll try and get to that ASAP. A prototype heater barrel based on Nopheads awesome work. I haven't tested it out yet, but it seems reliable. I'll try and get to that ASAP.
I snagged the heater fan and heater core from the parts car. I sure hope I don't have to use them as you need to disassemble a good portion of the dash to get to it.

I've made a loop out of galvanized 3/8" * 12" plumbing nipples and elbows. For added security I welded the nipples to the elbows to prevent any leakage into the stove in the future. A superior loop would be made of stainless steel. Mcmaster-Carr sells stainless plumbing parts. I think I will upgrade one day.
My wall heater. Inefficient and it clicks a lot. The small fan makes a HUGE difference. I added a digital thermostat to control this unit years ago, but it's so useless because the heat just goes up and doesn't heat up the room.
a photo of the heater controls on a berliet KB2400 cab this one is on a TR280. the only problem there was with this was that the radio was fitted very close to the heater matrix and got very hot from it and the heat transfer to the metalic dash. This made the radio's prone to early failure but this was overcome by locating the radio above the drivers head in the overhead panel in the cab roof where they were fitted on the ford transcon that used the same cab.

Just got our new water heater installed - a Rinnai Tankless.
I now plan on watering our lawn with hot water, and taking three hour showers.
Installed by the fine folks at Orbit Plumbing, Heating and Cooling.
Winter is coming. Time to get ready. Today the renewable energy group
in TorC got together to build a solar space heater. It is a pretty
simple idea. Build a box, paint it black and attach it to a window. We
managed to build and insulate the window portion. However we still
have plenty of work ahead of us. We have not gotten around to building
the 4' x 7' black box collector yet. The curvy translucent PVC is
slowing us down. I think using glass would have been more appropriate.

The heater box is back from alloy welding and is now bolted to the bus. You can see the restored white cab behind the box. This had stone chip white sprayed over it to seal it in. The outside of the heater box was painted stone chip black. The inside will be left bare as the heater may well burn the paint if painted. The red section will in time hold all the wiring and control box and relays for the heater. Lots still to do but with the box in I can finally once again lock the flap shut.
