If just try, if you actually go out and leave it all behind, it does get better.

After the park removed the Glines Canyon Dam upstream from here, the Elwha River celebrated by reclaiming its full bed. That entailed washing out a campground and this road.

The 45EPIC landscapes and goddesses are straight out of Homer's Iliad & Odyssey!

I'm currently updating a translation with the Greek names for the gods and goddesses--will publish soon! :)

"RAGE--Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another. " --Homer's Iliad capturing the rage of the 45EPIC landscapes and seascapes! :)

After a restful night aboard the MS Amadeus II, we awoke near Emmersdorf an der Donau, realizing we had already covered at least two-thirds of the distance between Passau and Vienna. The view that greeted us was simply breathtaking. We found ourselves immersed in the heart of the Wachau region, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Lower Austria, known for its Danube Valley landscapes, historic towns like Dürnstein and Melk, which exude medieval charm, and the iconic terraced vineyards that yield high-quality wines. The village gracing our view was Emmersdorf an der Donau, veiled in morning mist, which looked beautiful as the sun rose. We are scheduled to visit Melk on our way back to Passau, and I'm hopeful I'll be able to capture some interesting shots of this world-famous monastery - Emmersdorf an der Donau, Niederösterreich, Vienna

A classic 1938 Ford Convertible!

A patriotic scene...with the American Flag proudly displayed on this old vintage abandoned car.

Closer inspection of the Ford will yield a car for parts and not one that has been restored.

The car has been sitting in a field for awhile with the top down and, in a rainy Oregon location that is not good!

An early December (of 2024) visit to the Haga Ocena butterfly house yielded some sots of this and a couple more lime swallowtails (Papilio demoleus), also known as the chequered swallowtail.

This is one of my favourite species, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get any shots showing the dorsal side of the wings this time. Here is one from a previous visit though: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53816447867/

This lake apparently gets its name from the oily taste of its water. We didn't want to check, since there were crocodiles and tigers in the water. The grassland around it was dotted with deer and monkeys. The edge of the water was a birder's delight. The purple grass in front is dry khus (vetiver).

Only 20% of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve is open to visitors, but that small area yields a very large number of wildlife sightings.

While on a morning game drive in Chobe Park, Botswana, we came upon a herd of Zebras and a giraffe who took off running across the road in front of us. We had the same thing happen with Elephants, Cape Buffalo and many other large animals on our drives. Needless to say, we gave them the right of way.

Not the sharpest of images as it was taken rapidly at 300 mm in a moving vehicle and cropped by about half, but I liked the action.

Microman (pronounced Mee-kuro-mahn in the Japan market) is Takara's name for the Micronauts in Japan.

Some of the cool ideas they've had included cross-licensing with Toho studios to make 'suitmation' sets.

Suitmation is the Toho originated style of using a kaiju suit worn by an actor in a scale model miniature city. This was born of necessity as Eiji Tsuburaya was given the responsibility of the SFX in the first Godzilla move in 1954.

Special effects then were limited and matte work often yielded results so bad that they would jar the viewer from immersion in the movie. Tsuburaya was a tremendous fan of the 1933 King Kong and, in particular, the stop motion animation of Willis O'Brien.

Tsuburaya wanted to use this technique to animate Godzilla but it was estimated that it would take seven years to complete that much animation while Toho had demanded movies from directors Ishiro Honda and Akira Kurosawa that year.

So Tsuburaya built scale model miniature city sections and a suit. The 1954 suit, called the ShodaiGoji (初代ゴジ) was made of rubber, cotton, wood, wire, and other materials. It was heavy and even dangerous for the actor.

The directors delivered what Toho wanted in 1954 (Honda with Godzilla and Kurosawa with Seven Samurai.) and both movies were very successful. They are now considered the 'two pillars' of Toho and their office building in Japan features a giant mural of Godzilla on one side and the Seven Samurai on the other.

Takara created these sets to reflect the suitmation process with Microman figures and kaiju costumes for them to fit in. This 2004 set represents Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

Like Medicom's effort to represent suitmation using a Godzilla suit with a Combat Joe,* Takara's does suffer in execution in that the suits are non-articulated. Once the Microman is in the suit, that's it. He just stands there.

And the suits themselves attach in pieces to the Microman so if you don't insert the Microman, the suit can't even display properly.

Still, for fans of the kaiju genre and suitmation (Which we are.) it's a cool toy to represent a special effects style that has peaked and is fading out of existence now that CGI has made such incredible advancements.

Today's yield from my one blackberry vine - 1 1/2 cups

I liked the trees scattered around the neat rows of this corn.

I had this phase back in my newspaper days when I interviewed a lot of farmers about farm trends and techniques. Satellite geomapping and tracking was just starting to be a thing back then, and I talked to one farmer who used satellite information to track how much rain every single foot inside his fields had gotten, and where the water was flowing, and how the corn or soybeans were growing in real time using maps with fancy graphics that popped up on his desktop computer. That was twenty years ago, so I can't imagine how fancy all this stuff must be now. I wonder what the satellites tell this farmer about the corn growing in the shadow of that tree.

C190 ENE. Last MOT expired in 2013.

It had covered 168,000 miles in 2012.

It looks like someone got their money's worth out of it over the years.

I'm sure it would be restorable. If not, it will yield plenty of spares.

In Stevens Point Sculpture Park.

“Word on the Street.” Scott Froschauer (Sun Valley, CA). A series of repurposed street signs spread out along the trail throughout the park; the typical street sign commands (i.e., stop, yield, wrong way, etc.), which tend to have negative affect, have been substituted with constructive ideas. Instead of coercive they are intended to be inspirational.

I extracted from the page 11 of Road Safety booklet (for all the BC drivers) only by memory and may be I got it wrong. :o)

When you see the pedestrians or geese need to cross the road, you should stop the car.

The scene I saw yesterday can be illustration for the section. :o)

When you are out of ideas, a walk on the pier will generally yield a photo for the day.

No argument as to who has the right of way during this encounter.

I remember the sense of awe I had when I visited Yellowstone for the first time and had my first encounter with a bison on the road. Magnify that feeling by a factor of ten and you will be able to sense the more intense emotions you have when you encounter an African elephant coming down the road towards you.

Various emotions/feelings pass through your body. Excitement as to being so close to one in the wild, a sense of appreciation for their beauty and grace, and apprehension when you realize that they could flip and/or crush your multi-ton vehicle without breaking a sweat.

I am not sure why this is happening. Maybe its for firewood, Maybe the trees are being taken down to increase a farmers yield. Hopefully its not for a subdivision.

A few years ago Maureen and I viewed EDWARD BURTYNSKY's "The Human Epoch" photography Exhibition in Toronto. I was so amazed how EDWARD BURTYNSKY captured how, we transform the planet for our own means. Ever since then I have been sensitive how in our own backyard we also transform the Landscape for our needs. My small City will be transforming a lot of green space in the near future just for housing. One piece at a time it all disappears for our eternity.
