Wishing you all a Happy New Year .

Three years ago (and only one cent less on the pump) I found this station and always wanted to shoot the whole front but there are always cars blocking the shot. Last week I drove by on a Sunday and the place was empty (except for my car). The day was overcast but I took a few shots to see what I could work with. A little line work, color (added the sky) and texture and I'm happy!

Some aircraft don't last very long air force service, but some types seem to go on for ever, and this was certainly the case with the VC10 with the RAF.

When the type was withdrawn from RAF service on 29th July 2013 it was XR808 that ended it all - quite apt really as the very same airframe was the first to be delivered to the military on 7th July 1966. No wonder it was chosen by the RAF museum as their representative exhibit, having been delivered to Cosford by road in June 2015.

XR808 first flew from Weybridge on 9th June 1966, so I'm guessing that 50 years prior to me seeing here she was effectively complete.

30 years ago today, Mt. St. Helens blew her top, forever changing the NW landscape. This is ash from that initial blast on May 18, 1980. It came from my aunt & uncle's orchards in Yakima, WA.

Happy New Years, fellas!

As you can tell, I haven't really posted anything lately (besides the past 2 photos posted a few days ago). My bad; college life.

I'm heading back to school later today, so no-go on posting for me. I'll still get on and check around though.

Hope everyone is doing well, and school's going swell. Here's some Star Wars because it's cool, the movie was just released, and I had that awesome blaster on the middle guy.

According to the epic poem Phra Aphai Mani, Phisuea Samut is a sea ogress who lived in a cave beneath the sea. One day, Phra Aphai Mani, a prince from the Rattana Kingdom, was sent to study abroad by his father, with the intention of having him ascend to the throne after his passing. Aphai is a master of playing a magical flute called Pi , which had the power to put people to sleep or even kill them. Nang Phisuea Samudra was captivated by the beautiful music of the flute and decided to rise from the sea to find its source. When she finally met Aphai, she instantly fell in love with him and began plotting to marry him. While Aphai's companions were lulled to sleep by the sound of his flute, Phisuea Samudra disguised herself as a beautiful woman to be with him. Aphai knew all along that she was an ogress in disguise, but he was unable to escape. Aphai and Phisuea lived together and had a son named Sin Samudra. For eight years, Sin was kept isolated from the world until one day, Aphai revealed the truth about his mother to him and they devised a plan to escape. Aphai tricked Phisuea Samudra into going to meditate on a distant island and fasting for three days.

When Phisuea realized she had been deceived, she became agitated and lost her beauty, transforming back into an ogress. She wandered along the beach searching for her beloved. The story ends with Aphai managing to escape and arriving on a shore, where he played his magic flute, breaking Phisuea Samudra's heart and killing her.

Well, we are all back safe and sound from a big camping trip out west. It will take us all months to sort through and process all the photos we took, but perhaps the best inspiration to keep that process moving is to start posting a few! So without further adieu, I’m going to rob you of today’s Chicago pic to bring you the Milky Way. I’m including here all the details on how the image was made in case you are curious and have the chance to drag your camera somewhere clear and dark.

Quite fortuitously, our camping trip occurred while the moon was rising very late – well after sunset. Moreover, we had a new moon one night – affording us a stunning view of the brilliant heavens when the weather was clear. The Milky Way was an obsession of mine during this trip, as it and so many other features of our night sky are a rare treat for us city dwellers. The campsites at Theodore Roosevelt National Park are situated amongst ancient and massive cottonwoods along the banks of the Little Missouri. Though most of the campground was huddled in their tents, lanterns burning, we stayed up a bit, watching the last bits of twilight fade from the west. There was supposed to be quite a spectacular meteor shower much later that night, but we saw several shooting stars in the span of just a few minutes waiting to see the Milky Way. Some of the larger ones would leave orange streaks in our vision across several degrees of the sky before they would explode with a flash.

At night, amongst the cottonwoods, the sky was resplendent with light, but it was so far off the earth was as pitch. The universe may hum with light, but our planet and ourselves are dark matter, illuminated only from the outside, and only when struck by the light of a very close star.

A bit about how this image was made: the original file for this image is about 56 megapixels and was composed from 14 individual frames. Each frame was shot at 50mm, f/1.8, ISO 2000, 30 seconds. I found while shooting with other lenses at f/2.8, ISO 6400, 30 seconds the Milky Way and stars were clearly visible, but I wanted an image with huge resolution and very little noise – so I thought I’d open up a stop and a half or so and drop the ISO down as low as I could. That’s Jupiter off to the left of the closer cottonwood and you can see not only the light in the tent but also the sodium vapor/tungsten light pollution from the little village at the entrance to the park, which makes for a great orange to blue gradient across the image. Click through to tWp to see the original frames if you are interested.

Thanks so much you guys for putting this into Explore - added it to my ImageKind page - prints available!

The Grand Canyon

Arizona, USA

On February 26, 2019, the Grand Canyon celebrated 100 years as a Nation Park. The canyon itself has been in the works for over a million years and some of the exposed rocks are more than a billion years old.

The canyon is more than 200 miles long 12 miles wide and a mile deep. The national park is visited by about 6 million people a year. On a clear day, like this one, it is possible to see for 100 miles and the distance across to the North Rim seems to shrink.

There are always visitors at the South Rim of the park, but during the winter season, it is possible to find overlooks with few or no other visitors. One can find a sense of serenity when viewing a scene like this especially when viewing it alone.

It is almost surreal that it has been almost four years since I first visited New York City, back in December 2017. How the world has changed since...

This pic is a lovely reminiscence of marvellous Barcelona that I visited four years ago.

Viewing the scenery I am thinking of one of my most favourite musical groups - The Gotan Project.

Tango 3.0 is the newest album by Gotan Project and was released on April 19th 2010.

[polski opis niżej]

It's been 10 years with Alstom Pendolino ETR 610 in Poland. On December 14, 2014, when the new annual timetable commenced, first trains under the brand new category "Express InterCity Premium" (EIP) appeared in Poland. It was a quality shift on rails in terms of passenger services, although linked to new pricing of upmarketed services.

For the past 10 years, the main corridors served by ED250 (so pendolino was classified according to the new PKP Intercity classification) remained the same: from Tricity (Gdańsk - Sopot - Gdynia) via Warsaw to Cracow and Katowice, and from Warsaw to Wrocław, with several enhancement variations (Kołobrzeg, Jelenia Góra, Rzeszów, Gliwice, Bielsko Biała).

What was interesting, according to the PKP Intercity's order, the EMUs weren't equipped with their main feature - tilting body. It was so despite the deep modernization of Warszawa - Tricity corridor together with the track geometry regulation before so such EMUs could get the most from this feature, if they only had one.

Together with 10th anniversary of ED250 on the tracks, the new corridor is to be opened: Warszawa - Szczecin via Poznań. As ED250 class was certified in Germany (see here) new corridor from Warsaw to Berlin is expected sooner or later.

The picture shows EIP 4501 from Katowice to Gdynia Główna, on a 3 track section between Pszczółki and Pruszcz Gdański. July 28, 2015.

A crazy weather day. That wind was wild!

We got to see this unearthed sloop. It's presumed to be over 160 years old & had been unearthed a couple times before. I'm glad we got to see it once. A fun adventure!

"A Thousand Years"

Heart beats fast

Colors and promises

How to be brave?

How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?

But watching you stand alone,

All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.

One step closer

[Chorus:]

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling, don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still

Beauty in all she is

I will be brave

I will not let anything take away

What's standing in front of me

Every breath

Every hour has come to this

One step closer

[Chorus:]

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling, don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

One step closer

One step closer

[Chorus:]

I have died every day waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

Bigger, better, happier!

A little blurry, but I think I did pretty good considering I was pretty drunk. Happy New Years! I'm starting my 365 project again today along with Xelia and maybe Brigid? So hopefully those two will keep me motivated to keep going all the way this time. Day one will be up later today! :)

On a fall day my aunt passed away. For the last ten years of her life she became a recluse, afraid to go outside her home. For ten years she only saw the world through a lace curtain. This my tribute to her.

I'm another year older today. Well. I'm only a day older than I was yesterday. So, really, I'm only ever one day older than I was the previous day. That's not so bad, right?

Seriously, though. I am SO grateful for everything that's happened in the past year. (Almost two years, really, since I made this image).

Taken with my Nikon F100.

All of the newer 2021 Fashionista I wanted! 😉
