The true understanding of dynamic balance lies not in viewing sand and water as separate but as a dynamic, single system where the whole is greater than its parts.

Just as the yin-yang symbol has a dot of the opposite color in each half, the sea is full of countless grains of sand suspended within it, and the beach holds pockets of moisture and marine life. This highlights that everything contains the essence of its opposite and has the potential to become its opposite. When in balance, the interplay between the sand and the sea creates the peaceful, restorative environment of the beach that soothes the soul.

In essence, the sand and the sea illustrate the fundamental principle of yin and yang: that seemingly opposite forces are interconnected, complementary, and necessary for a harmonious, dynamic universe

Every year in mid-June, the festival of street artists held in Antibes. Always it is going to a lot of viewers, because the entrance is free. Every time talented artists surprise his artistry and originality. All scenes with humor, which involved not only the actors but also the audience.

After the image from my last upload, we quickly packed up as we wanted to shoot a second composition before the sun set behind the horizon. As mentioned before, most of the strong compositions are between Dune 37 and 45, meaning that we didn’t have to drive far to reach this rather famous one. When we scouted the area a few hours earlier during harsher daylight, we could barely see this lone tree as it is quite far away, not very big and doesn’t really stand out from the background in terms of color. However, as the sun went down, the neighoring dune to the right blocked the light causing the background of our composition to fall into shadow making the tree much easier to find. After a few shots from the roadside, I wanted to get a little closer as I didn’t like the large gap between the top of the tree and the wavy dune in the background. I hadn't anticipated that it would take us a few minutes to get there, but we managed to take a single photo with a more balanced gap before the sun disappeared. Back at the computer, however, I find that this very gap makes the tree look small and showcases the size of these dunes, which is why I actually prefer this composition, but maybe I'll upload the other one in the future. After this rather stressful sunset shoot, we returned to our campsite and reflected on an absolutely amazing day, not knowing that tomorrow would be even better, but that's another story. I hope you enjoy it!

Translation:

Within the spreading darkness, we exchanged vows of revolution

A flower of evil sprouted because it was loved

Because I won’t let anyone interfere

with everything that will come about from now on

The fruit told of the future

The city has forgotten reasoning

The present time is distorted black

I turn dreams into ideals

Why? Am I a broken Messiah?

Everyone wished for a “finale”…

Within the spreading darkness, we exchanged vows of revolution

A flower of evil sprouted because it was loved

I won’t let anyone interfere

with everything that will come about from now on

Someday, I’ll show you

a shining sky

Why? Am I a broken Messiah?

Everyone dreamt of a “paradise”…

Within the spreading darkness, we exchanged vows of revolution

A flower of evil sprouted because it was loved

Because I won’t let anyone interfere

with everything that will come about from now on

Someday, I’ll show you

a shining world

Yin and yang (or 陰 and 陽 in traditional Chinese characters) represent duality, or the idea that two opposite characteristics can actually exist in harmony and complement each other. It's the same idea behind quotes like, "there can be no light without darkness." Yin (the black segment) and yang (the white segment) each represent various qualities.

Is it Fri already? After a long day at work I really need another calming image. It was shot last week but it already feels so distant. Winter is receding rapidly this season. This image is from Chiacago’s lakeshore. What do you think?

Mating pair of Halloween Pennant dragonflies, Celithemis eponina. Red tail is male, blue tail female. Eventually they will fly in tandem to the pond where she will lay eggs on underwater stems, while he continues to hold her by the neck with his tail so he can pull her out afterward.

The visible wood is the horizontal top surface of the handrail on a boardwalk over the pond, which makes the image appropriate for Smile on Saturday's theme, "Dutch Angle". Smile!

I have returned to my favourite, magical location, the secret little world enclosed by the lazy meanders of the river Adda just downstream the eastern arm of the lake Como (its real name being Lario), just before it begins to flow into the Padan Plain. It is a hidden gem under everyone's eyes - surrounded as it is by busy roads, towns, and productive sites, as soon as you get on the river's banks you feel like you have entered an entirely different world. I think that the wetlands nestled between the meanders have preserved the place, making it less than amenable to settlements (but very amenable to a sheer variety of birds).

At 5° C and a substantially clean sky, I would have bet on the place being very misty, as it almost always is at early morning. Luckily I didn't, since I would have lost. The air was crystal clear, the place devoid of its usual mysterious ambiance (visit my album Silent banks to get an idea). I was lucky enough that Autumn was extremely generous with its treasures, and my sunrise session was not to go wasted, after all.

I was walking downstream, almost convinced that it was time to go back home, when a couple of twin old, large plane trees captured my attention. While framing, in the most serendipitous way, I was abruptly aware of the interplay of lights and shadows that was quietly unfolding behind my back while I was walking, a perfect yin and yang of day and night at the boundary between the two opposite poles - and that golden, fiery speck of a young plane tree right at the center of the dance, set against the dark hillside. Since such light conditions can last mere minutes, I hurriedly set up my tripod to capture the drama, not caring about the grass in the foreground being decently sharp or not.

I hope that you enjoy this new post of mine and wish you a nice Sunday.

I have processed this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.3/-0.67/0/+0.67/+1.3 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal" exposure shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

Along the journey I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic, which has contributed a lot to the rendering of the trees and reflections on the right side of the framing, enhancing the light transfixing the foliage. Raw files processed with Darktable.
