Recreated Scrooge Movieposter as christmascard for Norwegian singer Stephen Ackles. Inspired on the Scrooge animated movie with Jim Carrey.
For all Dutchies who don't know Stephen Ackles:
'The charismatic and humoristic entertainer has had an impressive career so far. He has released thirteen albums and has worked with giants such as Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Lee Lewis, Narvel Felts but also Alexander Rybak (winner of the Eurovision Song contest 2009 with ‘Fairytale’) and Elton John. He also opened the European Graceland Randers in Denmark earlier this year.'

To all my flickr friends!!!
I wish a merry Christmas and a great New Year full of great things!!!
Thank you for a wonderful 2013
Cheers
Nicolas
I received many Xmas/New Year cards recently but these two are most amazing.
Thanks to Victor from Moleskiner.cn, a new year post card with a cultural phenomena on it. If you are a twitterer, you know what I'm talking about, the fail whale twitter down time image. Victor's friend Yiying Lu created this lovely image, used by Twitter, promoted by Yiying's supporters. Learn more about the story of Fail Whale here.
Thanks to Iijima san who sent me this raw Xmas card! I love the rawness and personal touch of it. Check out Midori's Traveler's Notebook Flickr group and product page.

This is the reason I haven't posted anything since mid November. At long last, my 2011 Christmas card/book is finished! Like every year, it was touch and go there for a while and I wasn't sure whether it would be done in time for Christmas.
Obviously you'll have to view "all sizes" to read the text.
Like the past two years, I wanted to make an Xmas card in the style of a Little Golden Book. As always, I started thinking about this year's Xmas card as soon as I was done with last year's SantaTaur
card. And as always, I waited until November to do anything about it.
It wasn't that I procrastinated all year, honest. I decided early in January that I wanted this year's card to star the Space Dweebs, a trio of characters I'd drawn back in 2010. Unfortunately I couldn't think of a story for the card. I had a couple of vague ideas but nothing concrete.
Around August I started trying to hash out the story in earnest. I decided the Dweebs' planet would have a Space Xmas, complete with a Space Santa. I knew I wanted Space Santa to be a horrible, scary a-hole and I wanted the Dweebs to try and show him up somehow, probably with a giant robot. I was still banging my head against the wall though. Why couldn't this story write itself like last year's SantaTaur card did?
In October I decided to finish the story once and for all or die trying. That's when I finally got the idea that Space Santa only gives practical gifts like socks, and the Dweebs find out that Earth people get fun gifts. So they build a Giant Giftbot and start handing out cool gifts. Things go OK for a while, but then the Giftbot malfunctions and starts tearing up the city. Space Santa blows it up to save the world, and then scolds the Dweebs for trying to outdo him.
Unfortunately there were at least 20 pages of story and I only had 12 to work with. 11 if you subtract the title page. Something had to go. The first thing to get cut was the "haywire Giftbot destroys the city" plot. It took up way too many pages, plus it made the Dweebs look like idiots. They're supposed to be geniuses, so having them invent a faulty machine undermined that. Making Space Santa blow up their robot to stop them from handing out gifts allowed them to still be geniuses and helped make him look like the scary jerk he is.
I also got rid of the idea that Space Santa gives out socks as gifts. Now he gives out nothing but free and unwanted advice. Plus he knows he's supposed to be giving out gifts, but doesn't do it because it's too expensive and too much trouble. That reinforced his general unlikeability.
At last I was ready to draw the thing, but there was one more snag– all the job drama. Finding out I was going to lose my job at the end of the year kind of took the wind out of my sails and killed my enthusiasm for the project. Suddenly I had way more important things to think about than drawing an Xmas card. I decided in late October that I didn't feel like doing a card this year.
Then an odd thing happened. I sat down at the computer one night in early November and started doodling around in Photoshop. Before I knew it I'd drawn a page of the card. Sounds stupid I know, but it's like it drew itself. I thought, "Big deal, so I drew one page. There's no way I'm going to do ten more." Then the next night the same thing happened– I sat down with no intention of working on the card, but somehow ended up drawing a second page. By then I decided I might as well go for it. I guess this card wanted made whether I wanted to do it or not.
So there you have this year's Xmas card. Will there be a 2012 card? Probably not, unless I can think of a really awesome idea. Plus there's that whole Mayan calendar end of the world thing happening next December, so what's the point?
Everything was drawn in Photoshop on the graphic tablet, then assembled in InDesign.
Check out my blog for more info on this year's card.

This photograph was taken at Beamish, Open Air Museum, County Durham.
The museum's guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the
early 20th century.
Much of the restoration and interpretation is specific to the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, together with portions of countryside under the influence of industrial revolution in 1825.

It is a new vehicle built for Beamish in October 2007. The registration
number "J2007" is a museum invention, "J" being the registration letter of County Durham in 1913 and "2007" being the year it went into service.

Today, I got an Xmas card from a reader of my blog, amidst my usual bills. As an aside, she looks completely Caucasian but she's got a Chinese last name. It turns out that four generations ago, her grandfather was Chinese. I find that so cool.
Sunset or sundown, is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the western horizon as a result of Earth's rotation.
The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment when the trailing edge of the Sun's disk disappears below the horizon. Near to the horizon, atmospheric refraction causes the ray path of light from the Sun to be distorted to such an extent that geometrically the Sun's disk is already about one diameter below the horizon when sunset is observed.
The spinning Earth lit by the Sun as seen from far above the North Pole. All along the terminator, the rays from the sun hit Earth horizontally, neglecting any atmospheric effects and Earth's orbital motion.
Sunset is distinct from dusk, which is the time when the sky becomes completely dark (apart from artificial light). This occurs when the Sun is about 18 degrees below the horizon. The period between sunset and dusk is called twilight.
Locations north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle experience no sunset or sunrise on at least one day of the year, when the polar day or the polar night persists continuously for 24 hours.
Sunset creates unique atmospheric conditions such as the often intense orange and red colors of the Sun and the surrounding sky.

Ferry Mucking Kiss My Arse is simply Merry F*cking Xmas via the use of a ‘Spoonerism’! Or is it??!! You can be the decider of that…
This ‘spoonerism’ was brought to life some 5 years ago when a few cards were made on a laser printer and sent to friends. Fast forward to 2011 and it found a new form in a limited edition version for the UK Letterpress Flickr Xmas Card Exchange featuring,Muttons & Nuts, Print Monkey Press, Alan Brignull, Print for the Love of Wood, The Counter Press, Flowers & Fleurons, Cowshed Press & Lunada Bay.
And now here we are in 2012, with a *cough* ‘production level’ one printed in silver & red using a very lovely 48pt Old Face Open (from Stephenson Blake) and some manky old ‘Santa’ block found down the back of the sofa whilst looking for money for the electric meter.
Perfect for that special person in your life like a boss, vicar or MP.
