I never like to shoot alone, so I brought my talented friend/neighbor Ian Curcio who helped GREATLY. For this assignment I braved the direct sunlight, and to overpower the sun I had to have a sophisticated VAL (Voice Activated Lightstand) to circle around the car and combine exposures in Photohsop.
This was actually took while walking across Kennedy Blvd over to the University of Tampa. My camera was being held down by my side as I walked. The car in the shot is the new BMW X6, which was initially the reason I took the shot. Of course, the original shot was tweaked resulting in this version.
I'm just waiting for BMW to give me a ring and ask me to take on all North American vehicle photography from here on out. Haha!
Although Realtoy have let other toy manufacturers produce the BMW X6 first, their latest version goes straight to the top of the class with its solid build, great detailing and seriously deep and glossy black paint work! Part of a long overdue new range of vehicles from Realtoy and available at Tesco's under their long running Mini Series brand. Mint and boxed.
This BMW X6 has been visually tuned by a bulgarian company named Overdrive.
The car has received a distinctive carbon fiber hood, new front and rear bumpers, mirrors, rims and so on.

As ugly as the real vehicle may be the BMW X6 hasn't stopped it from being a big seller for its maker and that popularity has also filtered down to the toy market too with scores of manufacturers making their own versions especially in the budget 1/64 end of the market. Many are cheapo Chinese unlicensed castings but one notable bona fide product is the one made by the U.K.s own HTI who make it in several colours to be sold as singles and multi-sets. Its a decent offering as you'd expect from a licensed product with a sharply contoured body, a much improved paint finish from earlier examples and painted lights and badging along with an accurate interior. No longer sold as a Motor Mania single in Sainsbury's anymore though you can still find them in their updated five vehicle sets. Mint and boxed.
Another glossy black BMW X6 by Realtoy in my collection. This is one of their latest and eagerly awaited castings which have begun to appear at Tesco and are still extremely cheap compared to the likes of Matchbox etc...

Definitely not the prettiest BMW vehicle to grace the roads but one which has proved immensely popular with toy makers the World over is the lard arsed X6 SUV. Many of these models are of course unlicensed and originate from China but in many instances like this one, are actually surprisingly accurate and well cast.
This is possibly the most believable casting out of the eight vehicle set found recently in B&M Bargains, its proportions look as they should with no effort to disguise its original BMW origins. The unmistakably intimidating shape of the real X6 has been captured well and despite its all plastic construction, this Police version actually features a realistic separate roof lightbar.

Its always great to discover new products from undiscovered toy makers like this BMW X6. As there is no manufacturers name anywhere on the packaging or baseplate, a bit of digging about on the internet reveals it is made by Top Mark. A very chunky casting, this is actually one of the better 1/64 BMW X6 models I have and also looks realistic with its raised ride height. Rather shockingly this is actually an UNLICENSED casting. God knows how they get away with it!
