Today we wrap-up our week long look at the outstanding progress of phase 1 at Mirebalais Hospital in Haiti. Cannistraro only played a small part in helping PIH provide state-of-the-art care to Haitians in need, but we are proud of the work that has been done. The photo above shows a completed patient room, including the prefabricated medical gas head wall units for which our "Stand with Haiti" team was largely responsible.
I had to take some photos in a clean room for a photo shoot I did recently. This was my outfit. I even had to wear a beard net.
The big plus was, I didn't have to worry about dust during lens changes.
Wet felted wrap, made of silk chiffon and merino wool, with bamboo fiber tufts added for shine. Hand dyed with eucalyptus leaves.

Here they are, in Target's "Solstice" line of gift wraps: my wrapped gifts of Chtistmas 2004. Making those boxes, cylinders, and bags happy was zen-like for me. They rest under the untree, of course.
Keith's arm is wrapped in a sling. I changed the white balance to flash and used an adj brush to make the sling a darker blue so you can't see Keith's hand.

The second day of the Battle of Pea Ridge -- March 7, 1862 -- was a Friday, and evidently the armies had plans for the weekend, so they wrapped things up early. While the first day of the battle had been a disorganized mess of poorly executed Confederate plans, the second day had the Union army working straight from a textbook.
Right off, Union General Curtis got things off to a good start by getting everything set up early. He used the break in fighting to have his men scout out a position in the meadows to the west of Elkhorn Mountain -- right around here, in fact -- and lined up 21 heavy cannons backed by several thousand infantry. They faced off against a ragged and beaten line of 12 big Confederate guns. They all started shooting at each other by about 8 am, but the Confederate guns were no match. Confederate batteries started running, and Confederate General Van Dorn's threat to arrest anybody who broke wasn't enough to keep them from breaking. It didn't help that he started running low on artillery ammunition around 9:30, and his reserves were someplace down the road about six hours away. (Wars are won or lost based on logistics.) The Union infantry was ready to come tearing into the Confederate lines by about 11, and that was that. The Confederates took off the way they came, and the Battle of Pea Ridge was over. The Union had held the road, and there wouldn't be any Confederate march to St. Louis.
The casualties weren't as bad as you might think based on all the running around. The Union reported about 200 dead, another 200 missing, and nearly a thousand wounded.
The Confederates weren't as good or honest at record keeping -- go figure -- but they reported 800 killed or wounded. That's probably an undercount, considering they started out with a 6,000-man advantage. But they lost a lot of generals, so that counts for extra. They retreated in a disorganized mess back south into the mountains, but they'd been cut off from their supply train and had to live a week off whatever they could steal from the locals along the way. One of the surviving brigadier generals thought the entire army had been wiped out and took off for the Indian Territory. Van Dorn refused to admit he'd been beaten and acted like the whole thing hadn't happened and that whatever had happened wasn't his fault, proving himself as good a leader as Donald Trump. A month or so later, Van Dorn's army was recalled from Arkansas and sent over to support the Army of the Tennessee, and Arkansas was left abandoned by the Confederates for the duration of the war..
Earl Van Dorn spent another year or so fighting on with mixed results, scoring a similar loss at Corinth, but a couple of Confederate wins at Holly Springs and Thomson's Station. He was finally shot dead in May of 1863 by a doctor who claimed Van Dorn had been carrying on with his wife. Were he alive today, Trump would make him Secretary of Defense.
