bento wraps furoshiki, tie-dye and fold/peg dye
The other day i did some dyeing and made these furoshiki / handkerchiefs. They are messily done (not very japanese) but its kind of realistic.
Its a practical cloth, people use every day. It can double as a tablecloth or napkin, it holds the box together.
What a combination: art and textile and function and food!

The vegetarian lettuce wraps have tofu, mushrooms, veggies, sauce and crispy rice noodles. They serve this with lettuce leafs, then you spoon in the filling and eat it with some sauce on top. This is my favorite dish at PF Chang's.
Hubby thinks I'm crazy for liking this mediocre, inauthentic chain restaurant, but I just love this dish so much it makes up for everything else.
Well for tonight, as you can see, my object of interest is the fabric that Sam put in my gift! I had so much fun with it!

This black wrap-dress style is perfect for everyday, but can easily be dressed up for a formal event, or down to wear at the beach. Each dress is a vintage flashback to the late 1970's-- an elegant wrap style, but with modern touches such as decorative contrast stitching and a fabulous lightweight, drapey, bamboo-spandex fabric. The fabric is incredible and stretchy so this dress will suit a variety of figures. You can wear it so many ways, the examples pictured are ideas, but I can show you more upon request. The wrap-dress layers like a dream so you can wear it in a variety of climates-- I wore mine in the chilly Seattle winter over a top. If you have a black tube top, you can wear it EVEN more ways
Machine wrapped cords:
The first samples are of wool wrapped with threads of complimentary colours.
The second sample is wool wrapped with contrasting colours in the spool and bobbin.
The third samples show wool wrapped with complimentary colours with added scraps of fabric. I wrapped a small piece of fabric around the wool and then machined over it.
The final sample shows wrapped novelty wool which includes beaded wool.
I had the feed dogs down for the wrapping but if you are not familiar with this techinique you may wish to start with the feed dogs up and the zig zag stitch set at wide and a stitch length of 1 or 2.

One of the modules of clay shards wrapped in chicken wire and hung from a small sumac tree in my yard.
I like the mysterious feeling of the "halo" of wire around the "solid" feel of the clay.

Nettle took her first trip to the movies. It was freezing so she wrapped up nice and warm to brave the elements!
Now the wrap is on the car I tried some shots this evening (8:30-9:30pm) , weather a bit over cast so not the best light to use and white car always a problem. I had my remote flash trigger to hand so used it inside the car with a yellow film over the lens to get the 'light up' inside the car. Also tried it for a couple of stobist style shots lighting up the car.
any tips on shooting cars in low light/cloudy environment would be much appreciated. lol
