4 Febbraio Giorno dedicato alla lotta contro il cancro

We can, I can

4th February 2020:

I could have gone out today as it wasn't raining. But I would have had to wrap up like an Eskimo, it feels very cold out there and Graham says it's even colder out at the front. But I had the idea for my POTD anyway.

It's world cancer day today and I thought "pink." However having done some research found out that almost every cancer has it's own colour. Pink, being for breast cancer.

So I got my crayons out and made a 'rainbow' of colours for all cancers.

Better viewed large and thank you for our favourites.

It's World Cancer Day today 4th February 2016. In the UK (not sure about everywhere else) you can buy a Unity Band to support Cancer Research UK. This is my Unity Band in honour of my aunt and uncle who have lost their battle with this horrible disease.

A very brief visit today to the National Botanic Gardens mainly to pick up supplies of honey produced by their own bees This however is a photo of my very significant better three - quarters, lost in thought looking over Cae Blaen, the spot I love myself . Also a brief visit because we had to get home early for him to prepare for a minor hospital procedure in the morning Typically it would have to be World Cancer Day today.

Never forget how fragile & precious life is ... sometimes days are long & not easy but life is beautiful & magical ... ♥️♥️♥️ Be thankful for every day someone might not have or living with a limited ability to enjoy it. I hope one day we’ll move even closer to cure

Today is World Cancer Day 2020.

As a 2x cancer survivor and a way too many times cancer caregiver today has significance for me.

I was lucky, both of my cancers were caught early enough and the treatments worked. I have currently been cancer free for over a year. The downside is the number of loved ones I have lost over the years - my husband & father of my children, my mother, my sister-in-law and too many friends to count.

The key to beating cancer is raising awareness, listening to our bodies and being an advocate for our health.

A senior officer who was diagnosed with two different types of cancer after finding what he initially thought was a bruise on his ankle is now working to help others who have experienced cancer within Greater Manchester Police.

Chief Inspector John Haywood had always kept active life and had some knowledge of cancer as his wife works Greater Manchester Cancer. The 47-year-old, originally from Shropshire, but now lives in north Manchester, went to the doctors about some mild eczema and mentioned the bruise on his ankle in passing. He asked about the mark again during a follow up appointment and was offered a biopsy which came back as a very rare type of sarcoma.

John said: "I'd had the mark a while and I didn't think anything of it. As soon as the biopsy came back, I went for various scans including a CT scan which then found a second cancer which was diagnosed as Hodgkin's lymphoma in my stomach which they thought was there for some time. They weren't connected and were both completely independent cancers.

"If I didn't ask about the mark on my ankle, none of it would have happened. I had surgery in 2019 which was unsuccessful, I had more surgery in February 2020 which was unsuccessful and so I ended up having radiotherapy. I also received radiotherapy for my lymphoma. Thankfully following further assessments I'm now in remission and have regular check-ups.

"I'd say to anyone concerned - just go get it checked out and get a second opinion if you need to."

John recently set up the Cancer Support Network within GMP to help others and give them the opportunity to be joined up and speak in confidence, in a group or in private.

He said: "When I was diagnosed I probably knew more about what was to happen next than many others because of my wife's job. I found myself wanting to speak to someone who also had cancer.

"I found having cancer is like being a member of an exclusive club. Nobody wants to join it, but when you've been recruited, you want to speak to a member. I wanted to speak to others with similar experiences and wanted to give others in the force the same opportunity."

"Experiencing cancer has given me more clarity and has really put things into perspective. There's only a now - we often live too much in the past or the future."

John, who first joined the force as a PC on response in Trafford, has risen through the ranks in different areas of the force and now works as a Chief Inspector in Criminal Justice and Custody. His role sees him work closely with CPS and Courts by taking suspects through the criminal justice process.

"Working for the police is so varied and the commitment to public service by the people I work with day in, day out is incredible," added John.

"Some of my highlights include being in charge of the security during the Queen's visit when she opened the Co-Op Headquarters in Manchester in 2013."

Being in remission won't stop John, as he has plans to cycle the famous Land's End to John O'Groats route in April this year to raise money for a cancer charity.

World Cancer Day takes place every year on 4 February and is the single initiative under which the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), its members, partners and the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic.

Under the tagline ‘Not beyond us’, World Cancer Day 2015 will take a positive and proactive approach to the fight against cancer, highlighting that solutions do exist across the continuum of cancer, and that they are within our reach.

The campaign explores how we can implement what we already know in the areas of prevention, early detection, treatment and care, and in turn, open up to the exciting prospect that we can impact the global cancer burden – for the better.

World Cancer Day 2015 is articulated around four key areas of focus:

* Choosing healthy lives

* Delivering early detection

* Achieving treatment for all

* Maximising quality of life

In honor of the American Cancer Society and World Cancer Day

I had been frustrated since I got Lightroom 3 about two months ago because I thought sharpening in Lightroom was not really good compared to Canon's Digital Photo Professional. But I was doing some research today and discovered that there is an option to sharpen for screen when exporting. I am so glad I found this out! Many thanks to photography-on-the.net, a great website to learn about photography.

Cancer turns your world upside down.

Some days it feels as difficult as doing a handstand and having to hold that position indefinitely.

This is my submission for the Upside Down Challenge to celebrate World Cancer Day 2025.

Why upside down? Because a cancer diagnosis turns our world upside down, whether as a survivor or caregiver. Everyone is invited to submit a photo of themselves upside down. Photos will be displayed on the roof of Hope Haven on the American Cancer Society region on Feb 4, 2025. SLurl: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/American%20Cancer%20Societ...

If you would like to support me in my fight back against cancer, feel free to make a donation to the American Cancer Society here: main.acsevents.org/goto/sandie_loxingly
