Was home sick from work all day, and still feeling lousy. The upside is I built some more buildings and additional stuff for the layout.
This isn't a "final scene", I just got bored and wanted to test an idea.
The amount of chiffon burnt away can be controlled to some extent. The density of stitching and the number of layers of chiffon have an effect, as does the length of time the heat gun stays in one place.
You can change the appearance of the background by layering different colours of chiffon over one another, or you can leave a large portion intact, as in this case where I left parts of the blue chiffon over the yellow crochet, which leaves me with an overall impression of green.
If the stitch is dense, and a contrasting colour to the background, this can give an interesting illusion of colour too.
I burn sections at a time, and I do it by an open door because of the fumes.
The whole piece will smell of smoke for quite a while.
Work in progress.
Almost complete - now with radar antennae fitted for trial, just the ammunition feed belts are still missing, as well as flexible hydraulic hoses. Looks mean, eh?
This mecha kit is intended to be a design alternative to the ADR-04 Defender. Same chassis (old pieces, from the Tomahawk kit that came with the Factory), but armed with four massive gatling guns! Totally fictious, hence its name "Manticore", inspired by the mythical beast which will shoot volleys of iron spikes from its tail onto its enemies. Quite a good match?

I had my sewing machine out this morning so I doodled some Christmas designs on to a piece of old blanket using brown paper, wrapping paper, newspaper and stitch.
Burnt using a soldering iron.
These are work in progress as I will be adding trims before putting them on cards

have been drawing in my lunchbreaks on some days over the past two weeks. Drawing old law books in the library I work in. This was completed over three sessions. I've posted the work in progress on my blog this week. www.alissaduke.com/2015/08/old-law-books.html
