Swedish word of the day. Hej. Hello. Ikano saying that they don't know what you enjoy doing on your free time, but when you live here, you will have more time doing it. The reason being that it is close to everything. New apartment building under construction at the ever busy Vegastaden in Haninge.

“Don’t be a Johnny!” Chances are you have said something like this some time. (Replace Johnny with the name of someone you know.) What you meant was: Don’t be whiny or don’t be greedy or don’t be finicky or a quality that characterized Johnny. (Another popular example is "Don't be a Karen".)

If so, you made a personal eponym, a word coined after someone. This week we’ll see five eponyms, from Greek ep- (after) + -onym (name), coined after characters from both fact and fiction.

Swedish word of the day Stubbe. Tree stump.

There's a steep hill behind the house where I live. It's next to the school. As a kid, I'm guessing we were around 12 years old, we stole the flat and circular plastic lamp posts at said school and used them as sleds to go down that hill. It was kinda tricky because of all the trees. But great fun until you crashed into my parents living room wall. I walked up that hill today and noticed that the neighbor had cut down a few trees on the top of the hill. No idea why, he can't build anything up there and his house is below the hill so the view will not change much.

All present; everyone in order. We are not talking about some school assembly or a military drill. It’s about vowels, a, e, i, o, u, all of them present and in order. This week we’ve picked five such words.

To many of these words you can add the suffix -ly to introduce the sometime-vowel y and still keep them all in order.

What everyday phrases can you think of that have all the five vowels in order? Share them below or email us at words@wordsmith.org. Here are two to get you started: “trade-discount” and “have it out”.
