It's the time of year when the weather is mild in between storms. As a result, I've taken lakeside walks around Sheboygan's South Pier district during the last couple of days. The ice on Lake Michigan is still present and the piles of snow still towering. Spring WILL come, someday.
I took a lot of shots of the Wisconsin, and looking back I appreciate the different views and angles.
I hope to visit one of its sister ships, New Jersey, at some point in the future.
My first attempt at a portrait and I discovered they have some iridescence in their plumage. Could be for breeding season or all the time, but it's quite pretty. Looks to have some mites on its face as well.
The Dells of the Wisconsin River, also called the Wisconsin Dells (from French dalles, or narrows), is a 5-mile (8-km) gorge on the Wisconsin River in south-central Wisconsin, USA. It is noted for its scenic beauty, in particular for its unique Cambrian sandstone rock formations and tributary canyons.
The cliffs, some over 100 feet (30 m) high, and side canyons are closed to the public to protect sensitive ecological features. The viewing of the rock formations by water is a popular tourist attraction in the area. The nearby city of Wisconsin Dells is the center of summer tourist activity, much of it in the form of the theme parks unrelated to the river features.
The Dells was formed during the last ice age approximately 15,000 years ago, although the rock itself is much older, dating from the Cambrian approximately 510-520 million years ago when the area of Wisconsin was at the bottom of a shallow sea.
Approximately 19,000 years ago, the Dells was at the extreme eastern margin of the continental glacier. However, the Dells itself was never covered by glacial ice sheets - it was part of the large Driftless Area that was bypassed by the ice. The melting of the glacier formed Glacial Lake Wisconsin, a lake about the size of Great Salt Lake in Utah and as deep as 150 feet (45 m). The lake was held back by an ice dam of the remaining glacier. The eventual bursting of the ice dam unleashed a catastrophic flood, dropping the lake's depth to 50 feet (15 m) and cutting deep, narrow gorges and unusual rock formations into the sandstone seen today.

So yah not much in the foreground other than soft blues. Probably a little too extreme with the colors.

I decided to take a little break before posting more photos of the southwest.
Yesterday, I spent a good part of the day inside my garage sorting out things for our move. After finishing up that project, I decided to venture out in the sun and blue skies in the direction of Black River Marsh. It was good to get out in nature, away from dust, dimness, and possessions. This trio of photos captured some of the feathered friends that I encountered.
I saw this redwing blackbird on the cattail in the distance and decided to give the shot a try.

Yesterday was a sunny winter's day, so I decided to wander along the dunes cordwalk at Kohler-Andrae State Park (Wisconsin). This view was seen from the end of a cordwalk at the top of a dune that overlooks the beach . If you look to the left, you'll have a glimpse of Lake Michigan. Rumor has it that the dunes will be snow-covered again in the near future.

Went shooting today, not much of a sunset because it was overcast but I stuck around to see what dusk would bring. Clouds were booking, so I think the blue came through in the long exposure (obviously boosted but not as much as you'd think). HDR 3xp.

My husband and I went on a couple fall color drives when we got back from New England. In locating my photos on the map, I found a few of the shots, where they were taken, but I couldn't find this one. I'll have to go back later and see if I can find it.
Edit: According to the order of my pics, this should be somewhere north of Wilton, Wisconsin. Originally, I was looking for a side road, but I think now it was the actual road I was on! ha! How funny! This is actually located up in the hills, north of Wilton. It's an old country road (called Kettle Road), that climbs its way up to one of the main roads on the ridge, so it doesn't have any painted lines down the middle, nor is it very wide.
