At the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers, a BNSF eastbound carrying military vehicles crosses the Wisconsin River near Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin on April 12, 2021. BNSF received the military loads from the Wisconsin & Southern - which hauled them from Oshkosh, where they were built.

WAMX 4196 and sister 4197 lead a Helm rental across Wisconsin's beautiful farm riddled countryside with a grain train for Chicagoland. WSOR's Prairie Sub parallels US 14 across the state in many spots, making chasing rather enjoyable.

Mid-May always brings out the pink and purple lilac flowers. Mine seem to be a week or so behind, but they now smell amazing.

There have been some spectacular sunsets and sunrises this month, mostly due to smoke from the wildfires in Canada.

I saw this beautiful Harley Davidson motorcycle in a parking lot accross from the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc Wisconsin. I couldn't resist taking a photo.

Exploring Beulah Bog State Natural Area. One of my favorite places anytime of year.

Near Blue Mound State Park, Wisconsin

The water level is pretty low in the Wisconsin River, which is normal. It's quite fun walking through the spongy mud hunting marooned tree logs.

Canadian Pacific 7017 and BNSF 6712 lead CP train 470 under the recently-closed wooden bridge near Reeseville, Wisconsin on June 17, 2020. The bridge, which dates back to the 1960s, was built as a replacement for the previous structure that was destroyed in a Milwaukee Road derailment. The current bridge failed inspection last week and was closed immediately.

It was sunny and "warm" (mid 30's F) yesterday afternoon, so we wandered around Kohler-Andrae State Park.

We ended our visit by walking along the beach. The winds and Lake Michigan's waves had created a frozen moonscape that stretched for about half the length if an American football field. There were two glacier-like hills and valleys between the shore and the water . I crossed the frozen stream and climbed to the top of the first hill and then walked along its ridge. It was truly amazing!

Canadian Pacific's westbound train 287, rushes westbound through the springtime countryside of Reeseville Wisconsin. I must admit, it was rather pretty.

Spring Valley Preserve is known as the “Wisconsin Desert” due to its environment of cacti, dry grasses, sand, lizards, and dunes. We enjoyed our visit and are looking forward to going there again when the prickly pear are blooming!
