Built in 1966-1969, this Brutalist-style building was designed by Harry Weese to house the Humanities department of the University of Wisconsin. The building is clad in stone and concrete with curtain walls featuring small window openings and metal fins, outdoor walkways within large exterior porches defined by concrete walls and columns, sloped stone and concrete berms on the exterior, large interior courtyards, waffle slabs, and a concrete pedestrian bridge connecting the building to the adjacent Bascom Mall. The building is a noncontributing structure in the Bascom Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The building is presently slated for replacement with a new Humanities building within the next decade.

Madison, Wisconsin

The 3rd state capitol building stands on an isthmus between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. It was designed by George B Post & Sons to replace the previous Capitol that burned in 1904. It was constructed between 1906 and 1917 for $7.25 million. The dome is the only granite dome in the USA.

This immense White House, resting on its roof in the Wisconsin Dells, suggests by its name that within it lies the answer to why our world currently stands on its head. It's a secret, of course -- but it's also a very confusing secret, so we don't feel too bad about revealing what we saw when we were there....

(There are other upside-down White Houses -- in Orlando, Florida and Sevierville, Tennessee -- but they're half the size of Top Secret Inc. and their insides are just expensive arcades that are right side up.)

One of the oldest buildings in Platteville, it began as a grocery store and doubled as a stagecoach office and stop for the Galena-Madison stage line. The stages stopped, and then the grocery store moved, and it became a barbershop for the next 75 years. It has recently been sold and turned into a sandwich shop.

Since Wisconsin does not have an NHL team, here is a rough estimate of what team fans in the state cheer for. Milwaukee and Madison tend to like the Chicago Blackhawks, Green Bay likes the Detroit Red Wings, and NW Wisconsin near the Twin Cities cheers for the Minnesota Wild.
