During NTEN's 2008 Non-profit Technology Conference a group of techies participated in several volunteer projects to bring technology to communities battered by the 2005 Katrina hurricane.
My group, comprised of consultants, non-profit workers, and Cisco Systems, traveled to a community center in St. Bernard Parrish to install wireless access points. St. Bernard Parrish was the hardest hit during the flood - only 6 houses were left standing out of 25,000 when the water rose 25 feet in 23 minutes.
It was an honor to be able to provide some help to this community and I'm grateful for the opportunity to talk with residents and keep the hope and momentum of positive work flowing.

disponibilità di app per uso didattico, permettono, per quanto riguarda le discipline scientifiche, di:
effettuare nuovi esperimenti;
“rivisitare” esperimenti tradizionali, realizzandoli con nuove metodologie;
allargare le possibilità di attività sperimentali “outdoor” ;

Working hard by the pool! I am getting lots of nasty e-mails: "Where are your pictures of Africa? How come you are not updating your Flickr?"
The reason: the minute I landed in Dakar, I switched on my AT&T "so-called global" Tréo only to realize that it was not connecting to the local Senegalese wireless telecom networks.
After trying just about everything for a few hours, I finally called AT&T --yes, imagine finding a landline phone on a Sunday morning to call the US.
The customer rep said in a very flat tone voice: "I am sorry, AT&T doesn't have roaming agreements in Senegal." What a total shame --AT&T doesn't cover Senegal at all!
No network, no wireless uploads... A whole week without Flickr. Ouch...

The latest version of my wireless temperature sensor using ATtiny84, RFM12B and DS18B20. Sitting on top of a 2 x AAA battery holder. With SD card for scale.

Once again diving a little into my collection of found photos... And there are still so many I haven't even gotten to!
Location cart built from t-slot extrusion. Diversity wireless audio receivers, Deva 10 channel audio recorder, HD-SDI video monitoring, time-code and tri-level sync DA's and headphones galore. + live logging software to speed nightly ingest.
Finally done with the wireless Canon XTi Remote project.
I gave up on the fart machine and went with the 2-way radio setup. The fart machine was too erratic when activating the shutter. The 2-way radio setup is much more reliable. Wished this radio had an ear piece jack. Having that would of kept me from opening up the receiver walkie and soldering wires to the speaker connection.
Can't ever seeing myself using it from 2 miles away, but you never know... :-)
