Green-winged Teal: Male
Anas crecca
This bird was the third species of this morning's birding trip that I was able to photograph. I find the male to be challenging to get the right coloring of the head in my photos. I do not adjust the colors of the birds I see.
The brown-winged kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera) is a species of bird in the subfamily Halcyoninae. It is found along the north and eastern coasts of the Bay of Bengal. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.

In India, it has been mainly reported from the Sundarbans region but records from further south near Chilka exist.

While waiting for Erin at hockey training last night I spotted this Magpie Lark watching the sun go down.
Posting early today as we are off to Melbourne Zoo with Di's Dad as a school holiday outing.
Happy Wing Wednesday!
I got closer than usual to this handsome drake at Beaumaris Lake. I also added a shot of a Black-backed Woodpecker for my Canada 150 project in this post today.

Added to my Canada 150 Album.
This eagle was on a tank near the grain terminal. I was taking some head and shoulder shots when it dropped and and flew low overhead. The rest of my shots were basically belly, wing, and tail shots.
Edmonton, Alberta.
My last bird series consisted of shorebirds found mostly along the coast and in wetlands. Going the opposite direction, starting a series of desert denizens with this White-winged Dove found in Big Bend National Park.
From the Cornell Lab:
"Originally a bird of desert thickets, the White-winged Dove has become a common sight in cities and towns across the southern U.S. When perched, this bird’s unspotted brown upperparts and neat white crescents along the wing distinguish it from the ubiquitous Mourning Dove. In flight, those subdued crescents become flashing white stripes worthy of the bird’s common name. Take a closer look and you’ll see a remarkably colorful face, with bright-orange eyes and blue “eye shadow.”."
Some more shots from the Werribee River Park on Monday.
It is always great to see a Tawny Frogmouth, especially with a young one in the nest.
Happy Wing Wednesday!

Happy Wing Wednesday!
Mr. Tuxedopants like to stretch his wings, which he can use to fly short distances. He's the senior rooster at Wright-Locke Farm.
Anacamptis morio (Green-winged orchid/Kleines Knabenkraut, Orchidacea).

Another old boat at Dungeness that will never be at sea again.
For an account of my trip to Rye and Dungeness :
I was watching this tiny, Black-capped Chickadee for a bit, then it turned around and started stretching its wings and legs. I found the different lines of its feathers mimicking those of the needles of on this Vanderwolf Pine tree to be an interesting study.
In this case, the often frustrating Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 Contemporary lens nailed it. The details in the wing feathers is amazing.
It just had to be converted to B&W.
