Blue-winged Warblers have expanded northward as landscapes changed to shrubbier habitats. This northward expansion increased contact and hybridization with Golden-winged Warblers. This hybridization and competition contributes to Golden-winged population declines.

One shy black bird male is searching for two important matters: food and a mate. Its song is short but colorful.
In the marshes, no flash, no additional wireless lights or reflectors. The bird in his element. A beauty to watch.
Used an old Sigma 150-600 @ 600mm from relatively close range(15-20ft). And I am happy I was there.

This Long-winged Harrier was a real pleasure to see during our visit to Trinidad last month. I had seen the species in the past but always at a very great distance. This wasn’t exactly close but I was pleased to at least be able to get a presentable photo of it as it flew past during its patrol of the rice project near Caroni Swamp.

This is Tephritis bardanae, i didn't find a good english trivial name, maybe she has none. In Germany also many of the Tephritinae didn't have a trivial name, this one has, from the plant it lives endemic with, the burdock (Arctium lappa). As any insect that is bound to one plant, she stands for the loss of biodiversity. Everywhere where the burdock disappeared for monocultures the insect disappeared too.
Diese Kletten Bohrfliege lebt endemisch auf und von der Großen Kletten (Arctium lappa). Wo diese Pflanze für Monokulturen verschwindet, verschwindet auch diese Fliege. Sie steht symbolisch für die Mehrzahl der Insekten, die Nahrungsspezialisten sind. Anders als Stubenfliegen, die als Allesfresser den Menschen folgen. Nur auf einen Allesfresser kommen bei den Insekten tausend Spezialisten.

Later in the season, they begin to take on their breeding plumage. They will be a rich black by the time they leave.
