Wild Horse Window is large alcove in the San Rafael Swell, a few miles north of Goblin Valley State Park. The ceiling and walls are striped with desert varnish, and it has a sweeping view to the east.
I rarely include people in my photo, but I thought this was the best way to convey the scale of the alcove. Bill Bowman and I have been on several hiking/camping/photography trips, and it was his idea to visit the window -- a good choice.

Norwich's Cathedral started life as an Anglo Saxon settlement, this and 2 churches were demolished to make way for the large building begun in 1096.
Additions were later made but the building is mainly in Norman style with it's original Norman tower. The original wooden spire collapsed in 1362 taking down the Norman eastern later rebuilt in the perpendicular style, the present spire dates to the late 15th-Century, it's 315 ft the second highest in England after Salisbury. Aswell as this the Cathedral's cloisters are the second largest in the country again only out done by Salisbury.
Rear view of the stables at Foxholes. The building has been there many years. Occasionally bits fall off. Occasionally bits get repaired. But overall it will still be there in many years time.
There was an event last weekend in Racine (WI) where a number of buildings were open to the public. I went to the courthouse, a bed and breakfast and three churches. This is one of the lovely stained glass windows at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church.
I am also posting a shot of the outside of the building and shots of the rest of their windows.
I promise to keep myself open to you,
to let you see through the window of my world into my innermost
fears and feelings, secrets and dreams. a part of a poem by Dorothy R. Colgane
our eyes are
the windows to our soul
they show our
innermost feelings
our fears
our dreams
we may try
and hide
this doorway
but it is not
possible
there is something
to be said
for someone
who is transparent
or lives with their
heart on their sleeve
but to truly view
a person
for who they are
look into their eyes
do not let
the clouds
dim the beauty
or let tears
wash away the
hopes that lie
inside
but look toward
the light
and see how
you sparkle
with life
show us who
you are
and show yourself
that you are worth
becoming all
you ever dreamed
of being
The 1980 New Mexico State Penitentiary riot began in the E-2 dormitory. It would be one of the worst and most violent prison riots in US history. Parts of the penitentiary were so badly damaged that they were never reopened. Evidence of the horrific violence inmates inflicted on each other are still evident, more than 30 years later. It's been the subject of several books and documentaries.
This is the first thing you see when you walk in the back door of the house. I can't help but wonder how long that bent up hanger has been there. You can see the scrape marks on the wall from where it has been swinging back and forth over the years. I also liked the simple thread curtain hanger. I believe this was the original house but later used as the kitchen/dining room. This place has never had indoor plumbing and very little wiring for electricity.
